Pedro Alvarez
To me the likelihood that Pedro Alvarez performs to the level that a team wants to acquire him via trade and that player is good enough to make the majors is lower than the possibility that Davidson/Avi suddenly become average MLB starters and worth keeping. And I think both of them are very unlikely to become that.

2017 NFL off season thread
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 27, 2017 -> 12:26 PM) No,it's not relevant at all. He is gonna get paid his money, if you aren't willing to pay him what he wants, you trade him and move on, last year in this current offseason. There is no "costs too much to sign him". You don't let him walk for nothing. Teams like the Bears do this bulls*** and it bites them in the ass, teams like the Patriots don't do this. Well, maybe we'll finally get a comp pick and they think that would have beat what they'd have gotten on market. I still think this is dumb as hell.

2017 International Signings
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 27, 2017 -> 11:14 AM) This is one of those moments where Sox fans have to remember who they root for. I know a lot of people seemed to think these things would change when we went into rebuild mode, but I just can't see it happening, this is just one of those signs. I will say this year is odd because of the last minute changes in the CBA, but the Sox are never going to be that team. I kinda figured that after last yera, when at Soxfest the sox acted like they would go big but then seemed to act like their 5 signings and staying under the cap was some industry pushing move. It's just disappointing. Their draft strategy seemed to change. They shook up their development team. This seems like such low-hanging fruit, but I can totally see it just being JR gruffly saying "16 year olds are too risky"

2017 International Signings
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 27, 2017 -> 11:03 AM) Which, If you like this young Cuban, puts them in a prime position to sign him if he doesn't clear before 6/15. This seems like a very risky strategy for a rebuilding team.

Teams have upped their offers in Q derby in the last week
QUOTE (shipps @ Feb 27, 2017 -> 10:08 AM) How often does this happen? I am curious because this has been mentioned a lot but I am not sure if this happens every year and how frequently. I know the Cardinals are always good for it but I am not sure if its a forgone conclusion to happen frequently enough that we can count on this being a situation in the next month. I am really curious. I think pretty much every team is ready to roll with their team now. But ST is tommy john season. http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2...-zone/97707990/ Cites that 27% of all TJ surgeries were performed in March and April (

Yeah, and every time Alshon was healthy and in a game it was like "whoa he is so much better". I am really surprised, but am also going to blame rams for their idiotic Tavon Austin signing.

Update: Luis Robert has been cleared according to Rosenthal
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 26, 2017 -> 01:01 PM) Even if he is cleared this year, he could wait until next signing period. Though with the change in rules, teams that are already over spending pools have way more incentive to bid now if he is cleared before the deadline. True, but pads have such a low ML payroll that I think they'd get him more than post 6/15

QUOTE (BamaDoc @ Feb 25, 2017 -> 04:54 PM) So Hou and Wash are both under penalty and can't spend over 300k on any one player? So we send money with Robertson and get players and international pool money. Same for Q to Hou and presto we could have a winning bid for Robert????? Only if he does not get cleared until 6/15.

2016-2017 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 24, 2017 -> 11:20 AM) All this complaining...but I look forward to watching the Bulls play tonight. I enjoy basketball and Jimmy Butler always entertains me. It helps that my daughter always asks me where is Jimmity Buckets anytime a basketball game is on. When it is a Hawkeye game...she can't find him and asks if he is sick...when its the Bulls she always finds him and then gives me play by play of what he is doing, haha. I stayed fairly positive about the on the court play, it was bad but still competitive. But February it just got to be a slog. Same mistakes. It's crazy to think about those first 3 games of the season. The ball being whipped around, 3s falling. If it's not Jimmy vs. Toronto it's just not that fun to watch.

2016-2017 NBA Thread
I've turned on all of them. There is not a single interesting bulls player outside of BUtler. There is also an incredible lack of athleticism. Nobody is interestingly fast, a huge jumper, etc. just a lot of bleh.
