Didn't mean to imply Israel was acting irresponsibly in the school situation, they seem to have taken it seriously. Just that it got away from them in a way separate than other countries.

Israel has been wild in every respect. It seemed to have contained it then it exploded again. Others see little issue in schools, theirs seems to be driven by schools. It's been bizarro.

Have you heard any feedback on how packed the dunes has been? I went to starved rock for a Sunday night and while Monday was great, Sunday was pretty disappointing as it was hoards of people without masks. Even outside it was too close for comfort. Dunes could be fun for my kids and seems like you wouldn't have chokepoints like a trail with stairs like that.

Pestering people outside where there is plenty of space to distance yourself seems unnecessary. Save it for the indoors people.

Hong Kong, others are able to act with confidence now. I have friends that live there, people will take the week or so lockdowns where they trace and test like crazy so that people can go back to living as normal. Their life is pretty much the same in between them. Ditto friends that live in Shanghai. In US people won't go back to shutdowns because they never fixed it in the first time, so the in between shutdowns wasn't even back to normal. There's no promise of it getting better. In June when testing turnarounds were a day, it was possible to see this working. But you are right that in a month they will not be able to have hit the scale of mass testing necessary if we are even at 25% lower totals in daily infections. It needed to be way more contained for this to work nationally, because the lab and ppe shortages affect everyone nationally. It's almost like that was a job for the federal gov't.

When I read that, it's hard for me to believe they got the original exposure correct, I don't know.

with it being like 2 weeks since the phase 2 really got out of control I wouldn't be surprised if some modification of behaviors changed around then. Economic indicators show it. Hopefully it turns out that way by you, and then the indoor lockdowns get things on track for august.

this guy does a good job of collecting the reports Regarding immunity, we may still get much better at treating it. The antibody treatments are on track to be approved by September, looking at the length of time it took remdesivir to a reasonable level it should be available to some degree in nov/dec

There are so many tools that have yet to be deployed especially at the national level. To say that we "can't" do anything is false. One - many reasons people on't wear masks in certain places is lack of uniformity. It is in many places an individual business decision, or a county decision or a state decision. If you don't have to wear a mask in the places you normally go to, then you are told you have to wear a mask here - you may get mad. The other places don't require masks, why are they? If you have one rule it will work. To say people haven't been convinced is asinine, how many more people wear masks compared to April? But you know what? It's still confusing! I don't wear masks on walks. But the state of Illinois and Chicago tweets are showing pictures of people on walks outside saying "wear a mask when you leave". There has been a huge failure to communicate best practices because there is no national policy. That's confusing, and when people are confused they will just fall back to what they are used to. Two - We actually are in a better place to fight this in March. Remember in March when we looked at who was getting infected by age group in the US compared to South Korea and realized we weren't picking up any of the 20-50 cases who undoubtedly had it but could not get tested? We are picking that up now. What we don't have despite it being much more the key to success in countries that controlled this, equal to masks and mores than lockdowns, is quarantining. We don't provide resources or guidance on quarantining, and we end up destroying entire neighborhoods in the process. Saying we are on the path to herd immunity is stupid, because we aren't. People on their own in the outbreak zones are going out less. Not all of them, but less. That's a fast way to economic ruin.

Illinois needs to go back to phase 3 immediately. 1300 cases today. The problem consistently with reopening is it signals that things are back to normal and people start taking bigger risks and taking off their masks.- Anyone Remember Much about the 2000 White Sox?

In illinois and Indiana testing really will be easy. I recommend going to state-run facilities as I experienced and other anecdotal experience they seem to be consistently faster in turnaround than some private labs like the CVS drive thrus. In texas/florida right now, not so much.- COVID-19/Coronavirus thread

I think they just wanted to hit their regional games contracts. I am not that into the development angle. They played almost 80% of their season, and the hardpart comes later. I think if they can get some organized scrimmages that makes sense, but to throw these zombie teams together, I don't know. Now if it was playing to be in the nba next year I'm in.
