  2. Am I the only one who's tired of the black softball jerseys every f'ing night?
  3. Getting back to the glass thing; I say we win three on this home stand then get creamed in Minny in both games, and this board blows up. My glass was half full, then I realized it was with cheap vodka which I guzzled down, and now the glass is empty.
  4. As I write this Tampa Bay is beating KC 10 to 1 in the 6th inning. I know they kicked the stuffing out of us twice so I looked up their other scores and couldn't believe how many runs they are scoring while their pitching shuts teams down. Of their 16 wins while only losing 5 not counting tonight this is what they've done. Beat NY 9-3 Beat Bal 9-1 and 7-1 Beat Bos 7-1 and 8-2 Beat us 12-0 and 10-2 Beat Tor 9-3 and 6-0 Beat Oak 10-3 I know they will have a bad stretch before the season is over, but I do not remember a team being so dominate in both aspects of the game at the same time for an entire month. How good is this team?
  5. Hey did you guys see that ? AJ got a hit! Just like a real major league player!
  6. Good thing we're wearing our lucky black jerseys.
  7. While I'm disappointed with the start, I'm really not surprised by it. I felt that with this number of changes in the lineup it was going to take some time to get things to gel. It's important to remember that all of these losses with the exception of Garcia's start in Toronto, have all been close games. And while I think getting Juan Pierre was a mistake, and batting Kotsay 5th is a really big mistake, there is time for this team to pull together and have a very good season. I think the big fear is the Twins not just pulling away, but that they are a very good team. Probably as good as the Yankees, and better then the Red Sox and Tampa Bay. If this is the case we will not be able to catch them because they have joined the elite of the American League.
  8. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 07:46 PM) the point is how ozzie isnt doing whats best for the team, hes playing vizquel over nix because its such an honor to see one of the great venezuelan ss's play. yea, well you should have signed him a few years ago then You make it sound as if Nix is some great player. He's AAAA at best, and a pretty lousy fielder. I'd hate to see him on that fake field

  10. Can you give us an idea the amount you're looking to raise? I am more than willing to make a contribution, but it would help to know what is reasonable as well as substantial enough to make a difference. I love this site, and want to keep it working.

  12. QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 02:12 PM) I just spit up my water at work... It's good to know my deplorable spelling is good for something.

  14. QUOTE (scenario @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 06:21 PM) It's much easier to overcome a hole like Burrell created when you have 4 guys in the lineup with an OPS over .875 like the Rays. Just for comparison purposes... Only one player on the Sox had an OPS over .850 in 2009... Thome. Three players did in 2008... Quentin, Dye, and Thome. Only one player did in 2007... Thome. Three players did it in 2006... Konerko, Dye, and Thome. (BTW - Alex Rios has done it twice in his 6 year career... the last time was 3 years ago.) So... take Thome and Dye out of the equation... replace Thome with sub-standard DH production... and if other guys do their jobs we should be OK? I'm just struggling to see how we'll score enough runs to be competitive.... which would be a damn shame given the pitching staff we have. I would be curious to know the OPS of Everette and Frank in '05 along with Konerko and Dye. Not to mention Crede vs Tehan and Iguchi vs Beckham.
  15. When I was ten years old my dad told me that we root for two teams; The White Sox, and whoever is playing the Cubs. I still follow that philosophy. My wife is a Yankee fan and I've spent two of the last three baseball seasons in New York, and I must admit I really enjoy going to Yankee Stadium. Both the old and new. They have really great yet somewhat arrogant fans, who really understand the game, and take winning very seriously. I like The Padres, because I went to all three games between the Sox and the Padres in '05. Great stadium, very friendly fans, many who told me how nice the White Sox fans were compared to Cub fans. Also the Angels because of the way they play the game.
  16. QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ Jan 16, 2010 -> 08:08 PM) Jenks and Quentin have agreed to contracts rather than go through arbritration, much to my surprise Bobby Jenks saw his salary increase to $7.2 million, Is there a reliever in baseball making more than Bobby Jenks? I appreciate all he's done but last year was a step back from his prior years. Mariano Rivera, Frankie Rodriquez and I think Kerry "Balsa" Wood to name three. Also Palpabon for the Red Sox.
  17. QUOTE (heirdog @ Jan 15, 2010 -> 03:36 PM) I think they signed Putz to close with the hope they could move either Jenks or Linebrink. If you look at it this way: Linebrink usually good early and sucks after all-star break and Jenks usually slow starter (low velocity) until he works himself into shape and weather warms, then you have 1 good set up man for the whole year. I think they try again earnestly to trade Jenks now, use Linebrink to set up. Trade Linebrink in June when he value is high (hot start) and trade for a more dependable set-up man or look in-house for that role (Pena). I know its a lot of movement but in the end you get the best bullpen results over the year. Rarely do relief men have outstanding seasons from start to finish. This mitigates the chances of collapse based off the historical evidence of performance. If we can get a valuable piece or two from Jenks it will help offset the lost prospects the other trade I think will happen will cause: AGon! Linebink makes too much money, and the White Sox are not a team that eats dollars in order to make a trade. I think we are stuck with Linebrink. Also taking the job away from Bobby would only cause discord on the team. I believe Williams when he says Jenks is still the closer.
  18. QUOTE (heirdog @ Jan 15, 2010 -> 01:15 PM) I think its more likely later in the off-season than earlier. They need to be as certain as possible that Putz is healthy enough to handle the role. He seems to be and based off Jenks' poor conditioning, both are equally likely to get injured (Putz coming off an injury and Jenks coming off lesser injury and being out of shape). Of course, it can be motivation on Oz/KW's part. I just think the clause in Putz' contract about "games finished" was the main clue and we've been "shopping" jenks for a couple off-seasons now...we just never had a secure back-up plan, but we do now with Putz. I don't think they signed Putz to replace Jenks. They signed Putz to replace Linebrink. If you trade Bobby, the bullpen is thin again with Linebrink as your setup guy along with Thorton. If we rely on Linbrink in this way you are going to see a ton of blown holds before a save opportunity arises.
  19. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 11, 2009 -> 06:02 PM) No love for Kwanzaa?! Go to hell. And what about Festivas?
  20. One of the things I love about this board is any thread going beyond say four pages will always veer off in another direction. I like to start on the first page, see what's up, then go to the last one and see what topic is being discussed that has nothing to do with the thread title. Rock on Sox Talk! Don't ever change.
  21. QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 03:15 PM) Dude...that was good enough that it did not need green. well done!! I never use green unless my comment could be interperted as offensive to someone. otherwise...let your joke do the work. I agree. In comedy you never tell the audience the joke is coming.
