  1. QUOTE (rangercal @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 06:52 PM) I HIGHLY doubt he was booed for his jacket. Without getting to political, his approval ratings are at an all time low. Really cool to see him represent us though. Also really cool Joe Buck referred to us as the "Sox" and not Boston. His approval ratings are at an all time low??? He's at 61% positive. Bush spent 2 years below 30%.
  2. QUOTE (tommy @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 05:57 PM) Great to get the W, great to see Fields contribute, with that said I'd like Beckham to play 2B tomorrow. Give me that lineup Podsednik LF Ramirez SS Dye RF Thome DH Konerko 1B AJP C (or Castro) Beckham 2B Fields 3B Anderson CF What do you guys think? Why would you sit Getz when he had 2 hits today? Give Alexi the day off
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 4, 2009 -> 04:04 PM) http://www.wgntv.com/weather Right now, if they don't up playing Monday...Tuesday through Sunday looks fine for the time being. Nothing wrong with Konerko. Salvador Sanchez is already in the game in LF for Quentin, whoever Sanchez is. Yea I see. I got nervous for a minute
  4. Forget the Cubs, I think this is a great pick-up for the Indians, and I don't like it.
  5. My Red Sox friend says there's talk in Beantown of Kenny wanting Coco Crisp, again.
  6. What would it take to get Ichiro? Man that would be so f'n cool.
  7. With the rain coming down it reminded me of the ending of "The Natural"
  8. I think he'll be our Chone Figgins. He will play wherever he is needed to play depending on the strengths and weaknesses from year to year. With his arm, I think he could even play 3rd.
  9. Only two teams other than the Yankees won the American League pennant and went to the World Series in the 50's. One was the Cleveland Indians, the other our Chicago White Sox. Both teams were managed by Al Lopez. Also Tommy Lasorda is underrated because he's a blowhard, but he really is a smart baseball guy. And of course don't forget the great Chuck Tanner!
  10. None of these proposed moves will matter as long as Greg Walker is the hitting coach. I'm sure he's a hard worker. I'm sure he's a nice guy. But he is a lousy hitting coach. We trade for guys and they lose their ability to hit. We trade guys away, and they become better hitters on their new teams. Don Cooper has made pitchers better. Greg Walker makes hitters worse.
  11. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 07:17 PM) Think he does this every spring training. Then check what happens in the regular season. In late 05, Hrniak used a leg kick. He used it and rode a few good weeks towards the end of the year. Then in 06, he used a spread stance by Greg that Pablo used. He hits .313 and shows all sorts of patience hitting the ball the other way. Then the minute the season started, he spun himself into the ground. In 07, Project 2007 Uribe is used to help motivate him. He hits .285 and looks good. Then the seaon starts and poof he goes back to what he is. But sure, he is a new hitter. The evidence that you see that is called his major league career has just been wiped out by 60 ABs in the ST. But Irish, you also have to look at '04 his first year here when he hit great. This is before the Great Greg Walker decided to turn him into a power pull hitter. I think now he's gone back to his pre-Great Greg days. At least I hope so.
  12. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 07:11 PM) Just ignore the years of him hitting well in the spring, and then going into tazmanian devil spin mode the minute the bell rings. Its all just an illusion. Think .220 to .240 with good power and a sub 300 OBP. Think finally hitting to the opposite field, and taking the first pitch most of the time.
  13. The lack of hitting is starting to make me nervous.
  14. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 24, 2008 -> 03:42 PM) Wow shocking, a lefty mauling us. The team is ready for the season. You would think that the great Greg Walker could teach these guys to hit leftys at least a little bit. Or is the great Greg part of the problem?
  15. In the last week of December '04, I placed a bet on the '05 White Sox at Ceasars Palace at 30 to 1. I only bet 50 bucks, but I felt like a genius in Oct.
  16. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 7, 2008 -> 03:30 PM) And I think a lot of people have heard enough of "We won't comment on an ongoing investigation" from politicians to think that using that answer would be a pretty slimy looking way to avoid answering questions. I agree, but it helps him from perjuring himself.
  17. Jim Rome made a good point about Clemens filing a defamation suit. If he has to testify in front of a Congressional committee, and has a lawsuit filed he can claim that he can't talk about specific situations that pertain to the suit. So instead of taking the fifth and looking guilty, he can say sorry I can't get in to that for legal reasons.

    TBS

So far I saw all three D-back/Cubs games, and yesterdays Angels/Bo-Sox and Yankee/Tribe games. I have to say I think the TBS coverage is far better then Fox or ESPN. Dick Stockton still mangles sentences like no other announcer in history, but overall I like how the games are the focus of the broadcasts, and the announcers don't seem to play favorites. No Chris Berman yelling "Oh Nooooo!!!!" when a Red Sox second baseman makes an error, or Tim McCarver giving us his stupid little word play. Not to mention cutting to 27 close up crowd shots between each pitch. Can't say I like the Ernie Johnson, Big Frank, and Cal show, but the games themselves have been well covered.
  19. QUOTE(Wanne @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 02:59 PM) Typical Soxtalk household diaries...... Her Diary Tonight I thought he was acting weird. We had made plans to meet at a bar to have a drink. I was shopping with my friends all day long, so I thought he was upset at the fact that I was a bit late, but he made no comment. Conversation wasn't flowing so I suggested that we go somewhere quiet so we could talk, he agreed but he kept quiet and absent. I asked him what was wrong - he said, "Nothing." I asked him if it was my fault that he was upset. He said it had nothing to do with me and not to worry. On the way home I told him that I loved him, he simply smiled and kept driving. I can't explain his behavior; I don't know why he didn't say, "I love you, too." When we got home I felt as if I had lost him, as if he wanted nothing to do with me anymore. He just sat there and watched T.V.; he seemed distant and absent. Finally I decided to go to bed. About 10 minutes later he came to bed and to my surprise he responded to my caress and we made love, but I still felt that he was distracted and his thoughts were somewhere else. I decided that I could not take it anymore, so I decided to confront him with the situation but he had fallen asleep. I started crying and cried until I too fell asleep. I don't know what to do. I'm almost sure that his thoughts are with someone else. My life is a disaster. HIS DIARY Today Kenny is pushing this team further into the abyss and made another worthless trade, but at least I got laid. Brilliant! Out of misery comes great art. You can only get this kind of top notch writing when the team sucks.
  20. I think he's dumping salary for FA's next year.
  21. I'm currently working in New York, and going to the game Wed. night. Can anyone tell me what hotel The Sox stay in here in New York city?
  22. We need to play more bad teams.
  23. The last time I saw Roger Clemens pitch at The Cell, October of '05... Ah, those were the days...
