  1. QUOTE(Jeremy @ Jul 23, 2007 -> 08:41 PM) You kinda just repeated what you said before. There are a substantial number of pitchers who have been better regarded by scouts than Danks, put up better numbers in the minors than Danks, and have put up as good or better numbers in the majors than Danks. I never said Danks wasn't highly regarded but I think you'd struggle to find many (any?) lists where he was ever rated one of the top 20 prospects in baseball. That makes me think he's not destined to be a superstar, a #1 pitcher, or maybe not even someone who makes multiple All-Star teams. Consider me wrong then. I didnt know that most ratings of pitchers should be based soley on lists made by scouts. A young 22 year old pitcher, who was a top draft pick, who is in the majors before he is supposed to and enjoys moderate success in his first season is not going to be traded at the deadline. KW needs to find players that can stay on this team and add payroll flexibility while also bringing results. John Danks is A#1 on that list, hence the reason he is untouchable. As for your fantasy trade scenarios that you listed, xbox is fun, but its not reality and listing other team's untouchable players is really quite stupid. As far as NL vs AL. Most pitchers enjoy a nice ERA dip when shifting leagues usually about a run. Going from the toughest to the worst division, I was spot on.
  2. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jul 23, 2007 -> 07:41 PM) Really quick question, with my new position my company will match 6%. So I take it it is better to put money in my 401K instead of a savings account? I was thinking of putting $250-300 a week in my 401k. yes, put it in the 401k. If your company matches or contributes a percentage then its free money, and usually pre-tax
  3. QUOTE(Jeremy @ Jul 23, 2007 -> 07:42 PM) I just don't understand what about a 22 year old with an ERA near 5 and good but not great stuff screams untouchable. He has definite promise but I don't think it's a stretch to say there may be 20 or more young pitchers under 25 more promising than Danks. It's hard to consider him on par with guys like Lincecum, Bonderman, Miller, King Felix, Hughes, Bonderman, Hamels, Kazmir, Liriano, Cain, or Weaver. Then there's another group of players who you might be able to make a case for: Carmona, Gaudin, Garza, Olson, Lowen, and Capps. And those are just the pitchers who have already reached the majors. As hitlesswonder pointed out, while Danks likely carries lower risk since he's held his own in the majors, the very top echelon of pitching prospects in the minor leagues will be more highly regarded than him since he was never regarded that highly himself. I hope you are kidding. a 22 year old who is up a year before he should be ready has shown not only can he pitch in the toughest division in baseball, but he is able to pitch aggresively way before his time. Put him in the NL central and he may have a 4 or sub 4 era no problem. Danks and Buehrle are the only two pitchers that wont even be in the discussion for trades, and for good reason. And saying that he was never highly regarded just shows you never looked at him before this year.
  4. Owens has hit safely in 12 consecutive starts and is batting .301 (19-for-63) since being recalled July 3 from Charlotte July numbers: .299 .356 7-10 sb
  5. QUOTE(Jeremy @ Jul 23, 2007 -> 04:12 PM) I'd probably deal Danks or even more so Garland if we could get a package including Young, certainly if we could get Quentin or Jackson in the deal also. We'll probably come out looking like idiots if we deal Charlie. Move Broadway and Phillips for pretty much anything of value. thank god you arentthe GM. Dealing Danks would be one of the dumbest moves we could make. He is a 22 year old that is having pretty decent success in the toughest division in baseball. He is untouchable. Garland for young, jackson and Quentin would be a coup for KW however.
  6. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Jul 22, 2007 -> 03:32 AM) All I can say is that Terry is a man, and Beckham should learn from him. Plays with a toe he broke on Weds, in a game that means nothing, and scores the only goal. totally different injuries as a soccer player. Beck had a horrible swollen ankle and manned up enough to force himself to play because he felt he owed it to the fans. No less of a man in any stretch of the word.
  7. QUOTE(AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jul 22, 2007 -> 10:12 PM) According to Peter Gammons on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball. The Braves made a trade offer of Édgar Rentería for Jon Garland. The White Sox rejected the trade according to Gammons because the White Sox have no interest in trading Garland. What do you guys make of this deal? Would Urbie be offered in the deal in return? It would be a horrible deal for the Sox and frankly it seems to be like Gammons is talking out of his ass. That isnt even close to an even trade for both teams.
  8. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Jul 21, 2007 -> 01:10 PM) and I love how it's still pinned. I wonder if anyone remembers the Sox4lifeinPA moderator days? I do. Happy bday
  9. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 21, 2007 -> 12:07 PM) I saw Stephanie on tv a couple of years ago, and I told my friends that she ended up being the best looking one of the daughters from Full House. Nobody believed me, especially since she was the worst during the run of the show. Now you all see. they are all actually quite hot
  10. Dell Lat d620 2gig ram duo core pro. Great machine.
  11. QUOTE(Beastly @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 12:24 PM) I'll have to mention that to my girlfriend, she and I frequently watch the food network and I'm sure I'd enjoy this rather than Iron Chef or a cake making show. FWIW, that stadium club has some pretty awesome food prepared. I've been there three times and the food is outstanding. its all levy catered. The whole jim beam/scout seat/stadium club/ skybox are all levy and in my opinion is top notch. I had some of the best food around in the Jim Beam club.
  12. QUOTE(MurcieOne @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 12:39 PM) its frightening how we have so few legit position prospects.... how the hell did Kenny let it get this bad? after people are praising two of them in this thread???
  13. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 19, 2007 -> 05:46 PM) One thing I'm really not looking forward to is the return of Pods and Erstad, because it'll resign Owens either to the bench or to AAA. If this season's a loss, then we might as well see if this kid can keep the hot streak he's on right now going against ML pitching, because if he can, it solves an awful lot of our problems for next season. True, I would like to see him play more as well. I think we could dump either one of those guys for a project pen arm IMO.
  14. MINNEAPOLIS -- Detroit Tigers left fielder Marcus Thames was placed on the 15-day disabled list Thursday, a day after he pulled his left hamstring on a diving catch in a 3-2 win over Minnesota. Outfielder Timo Perez's contract was purchased from Triple-A Toledo, and he was in the lineup batting seventh and playing left field in place of Thames against the Twins on Thursday afternoon. The 32-year-old Perez was MVP of the Triple-A All-Star game last week. He signed a minor-league deal with Detroit this winter after appearing in 23 games last year for St. Louis. He played in parts of four seasons for the New York Mets and spent the next two years with the Chicago White Sox. Thames, who is hitting .252 with 11 home runs and 32 RBIs in 155 at-bats, ended the eighth inning Wednesday night with a running shoestring catch of Joe Mauer's line drive. He rolled around in the turf in pain and limped off the field.
  15. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 19, 2007 -> 05:15 PM) He's been awesome and so has Mack and Thome and even Jerry Owens (whose been very productive since coming back from the minors). Jerry has been surprisingly good lately. Post all-star .286 .375 3 sb 1cs if he could keep that line we would be in biz
  16. I would love for them to get some more pop in their lineup, to compete with the cubs
  17. QUOTE(AirScott @ Jul 19, 2007 -> 04:29 PM) We needed a veteran in the pen this year. But the other point is good, lots of times you just get lucky with relievers like we did in 2005. Look what Dennys Reyes did for the Twins last year; he posted a 0.89 ERA! Dennys Reyes did that! ... DENNYS REYES! Cotts, polite, Hermanson. Where are those guys now?
  18. we all know A-row will be in CF. Sweeney-Arow-?
  19. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 18, 2007 -> 03:34 PM) The only way he was going to recover to get back to where he was two years ago was if he found the Fountain of Youth. I'm just mad we didn't trade him for Adam Dunn. And KW did an atrocious job this offseason improving our bullpen. There's no reason to worry about it for this year, and we just have to hope that massive changes are made to this team's personnel over this offseason. You mean the first half of last year when he was unbeatable? Is that when you meant? And our bullpen had a ton of potential and showed it in April. Nobody could have predicted the full meltdown that has happened. Look at the "exact science" of bullpen pitchers. How many guys from our 2005 WS champion team are still in the majors?
  20. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 18, 2007 -> 03:33 PM) Even better.... "Between 2000 and 2005, 99 percent of the 435,000 federal criminal defendants prosecuted nationwide were convicted" http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburgh...n/s_464095.html they appear to have enough cooperative witnesses to make this an open and shut case. Vick was seen not only giving over money to the victors, but also was present during executions and fights.
  21. Well, the Falcons have to do the right thing and cut his ass. He is a piece of crap that should be suspended for at least a season.
  22. Great work by the team, should have swept them. Who else is going to Boston?
  23. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 18, 2007 -> 03:03 PM) Who's the ace you're referring to? If it's Contreras, then I think we all knew better after how he looked since returning from injury last season. And yet had all offseason to recover, kinda like the rest of our staff (buehrle). He was our Ace and was put in the #1 spot to show that he was. The players are to blame for this season, nobody else.
  24. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 18, 2007 -> 12:07 PM) 1. Do you have any criticisms of Kenny Williams at all? 2. I think the Overexpectations of Kenny Williams falls on KW. you are right, it was totally an overexpectation to think that our offense would perform as it has the last several years, and to assume the ace of our staff would continue to pitch well, and to think that at least 3 people in our bullpen could be trusted. Total insanity!!!
