when one of my doctoral student was wearing a "White Sox Winning Ugly 1983" T-shirt and I told her it was a great T-shirt and asked if it was original. She laughed and said she wasn't born until 1986. I've felt old but this actually put a number on it. I have doctoral students who were born after I graduated from undergraduate school.

Also, the Giants management side of the story is that they gave AJ a couple of chances to repair the damage to his image in the community and he was not really cooperative... and things got worse... and worse with both the team and the fans. So... it was a bad marriage that ended in an ugly divorce and the 'AJ as a cancer' story had begun. He also had the incident with the medical staff in SF. This did not endear him to the support personnel either. Also as I've said before they boo him probably because they've met him.

Baseball is more than what it can be reduced to in numbers. Ozzie needs to have the confidence and respect of his players. I've been in enough clubhouses to see this. Never take a manager's decision on face value in baseball. He is never going to get them all right no manager does. Until Ozzie's teams begin to consistently lose, I'll have confidence in him.

This is the unlikely, worst case scenario. However, do you take this risk with this player. This is the question the organization needs to ask itself. If the team continues to play as it has been the answer will be obvious: no playoffs no reason to risk his future health.

Surgery is not done for patella tenonitis unless it has progressed to the point that part of the tendon becomes necrotic or starts to die. They can remove the dead tissue and have good tisuue grow in the spot. This is a severe case and doesn't happen often.

I'm sure this is the question going through the minds of the White Sox decision makers. They have a good medical staff and I would trust them but it is a risk.
