  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 7, 2009 -> 07:51 AM) Is it considered an actual "Masking agent"? I'm pretty sure Canseco was arrested for the same thing. From wikipedia: "On October 10, 2008, Canseco was detained by immigration officials at a San Diego border crossing as he tried to bring a fertility drug from Mexico. He stated the drug was to help with his hormone replacement therapy, needed due to his abuse of steroids."
  2. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 09:35 AM) Um, Paul Konerko Um, I said, "I don't see it too often." I didn't say it never happens. Here's what I see, though. Black guys tend to wear jerseys of black players. See many black guys in Tom Brady jerseys? Peyton Manning? Not really. You'll see them in Vick jerseys, though. Is it because Vick is better than Brady or Manning? How about in Joe Montana jerseys? Nope. Randall Cunningham? I saw a few. Who was a better player? In the 80's, did you see many black guys in Bird jerseys? I know I didn't. Magic? I did. On the contrary, white people tend to buy jerseys across all racial lines. They might subconciously (or even loudly) root for white players to have success. Does that make them racists? I don't think so. I think people of all races tend to root for the success of their race, nationality, countrymen, etc. Call it what you want, but I don't think it fall under the umbella of racism.
  3. QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 09:13 AM) The double-standards on race in this board is ridiculous. A lot of people will deny that race plays a role, but I don't buy it. I'm calling it out and the issue here is that race plays a subconscious role in how some fans decide to support a player or not. Race is definitely a factor in who fans cheer for in sports, but it cuts both ways. When is the last time you saw a black fan wear a jersey of a white player? I don't see it too often. I also don't think it's a big deal. People naturally cheer for the players they identify with. Look around at a sporting event, and you'll see many white fans wearing jerseys of their favorite (often black) players. I think many Sox fans (myself included) would like Anderson to get a solid hunk of playing time to wee what he can do over a long period. He's definitely excellent defensively. Might he be a guy like Crede who develops slowly offensively on the MLB level? Who knows? If he can hit .260, it probably would be worth it to put him in center and bat him ninth.
  4. Does Stone do the "Yes!" in stereo with Hawk when the Sox homer?
  5. What was up with the sound on WGN? The background crowd noise was drowning out Hawk and Stone. Why couldn't that have happened when DJ was hunkered down and strapped in next to Hawk?
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 6, 2009 -> 10:44 AM) So basically there are no White Sox fans besides me in Iowa. Just goes to show you how poor the White Sox have been marketed that there are more Twins, Royals and Cardinals fans here 3 hours away from Chicago than White Sox fans. Embarassing. I guess I should join KW and accept the reality that the White Sox will never be anything more than a 2nd tier team...even if they win the AL Central 14 seasons in a row like the Braves did. Only grandmothers who go to Wrigley Field on summer tour buses with floppy hats overloaded with Rafael Palmeiro and Mark Grace buttons. Why don't you volunteer to be a White Sox expert. He said they don't turn anyone away. That would make 2 Sox fans.
  7. QUOTE (rangercal @ Apr 4, 2009 -> 02:48 PM) Maybe our organization should stop acting 2nd class. Many here (including myself) get annoyed at ESPN being east coast biased. Maybe they pay more attention to the Red Sox and Yanks because they are a class above us. At least we have mullet night Are you suggesting that Frank should grow a mullet?
  8. I did this, and it was a huge pain. My product was a long distance phone provider. All I had to do was get people to change their long distance service to my provider. The cost of my long distance was half of what the typical provider (AT&T and the like) was charging, so there was actually value for the customer. No charge for changing providers, either. I'd make money when the customer used long distance, and if I could get anyone to join the sales team, I'd get a percentage of their sales. Typical MLM. The problem is that people are so skeptical, it's really hard to get them to buy into the product. I couldn't get people to change long distance providers because they thought there was a catch. Truth is, I didn't work as hard as I should have either, but with MLM products, you see people (friends/family) glaze over pretty quickly when you start pitching the idea to them.
  9. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Mar 16, 2009 -> 08:04 AM) Soccer is a lot like my love life. Meandering and pointless with frequent flops and red flags every so often. Why would I ever want to watch this during my free time? You're free to use your hands, though, unlike our soccer playing friends. As for the topic, I'd much rather watch my kids play soccer than suffer through one of their baseball games. Soccer is a sport that most kids can have some degree of success in playing. Even if they're not kicking the ball, they can always just run along with the rest of the kids and it looks like they're doing something.
  10. Was a cause of death ever released? I looked, but couldn't find anything.
  11. The Dodgers also used to be The Team in Phoenix before the Diamondbacks came to Phoenix. Dodgers games were broadcast locally until the Diamondbacks were born and that's only eleven years ago. That said, I was at the game Sunday, and the disparity was pretty shocking.
  12. QUOTE (rowand's rowdies @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 10:59 AM) thanks ginger. the traffic on camelback was backed up for a mile or so, not too bad, but still why I veered off into the "parking lot" when I saw it. It was indeed a trap. For all the police in the area to make sure traffic was ok, none were right across the street at this lot when it was filling up. The lot to watch out for is next the the CVS, kitty corner from the ballpark. It's a huge open lot, probably 5 acres wide. I asked a cop (Phoenix, which is who gave me the ticket) about it and he said with a smirk that they can't put no parking signs on every open lot. Well, how about the one right across from a brand new stadium where there will be out of town visitors? Oh wait, no revenue from huge parking tickets. It is becoming a joke here. I live in Tempe (South east valley) and my 25 mile drive to glendale (north west valley) included at least 10 speed cameras. They are desperate for money, and as far as I'm concerned, they are finding ways to legally rob it's citizens. The "great" part about those speed cameras is that they give you a warning 300 ft before the camera comes up. I thought your warning about the parking at the new stadium would be that the Sox lot (which was $5) is approximately a mile from the stadium. To get to the stadium, you walk past all of the practice fields. It's quite a hike. Really nice stadium, though.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 25, 2009 -> 09:59 AM) This close to a Ph.D. in geology...(Come on Iron, stop screwing me over!) Geology? To you I say, "Fe." I have a degree in Economics that I've never used for anything. I have no idea if it's a BA or BS. Well, it's definitely BS, but - oh, you get it. I've also toyed with the idea of going back to school, and I wonder what would be a good field to get into. Any thoughts? Disregard what my personal strengths might be as I've yet to find a paycheck for my persistent sarcasm. What's the hot field (accounting, pc related stuff, etc)?
  14. I have a friend who walked into the Sox locker room in the early 90's and can't get the picture of Frank Thomas not in uniform out of his mind.
  15. QUOTE (michelangelosmonkey @ Feb 22, 2009 -> 03:22 PM) What does Michelangelo's genius have to do with his monkey? Typically one's genius doesn't pass on to our pets. Ask Frank Thomas's cat...never learned the strike zone. Much like Frank, the cat would arch his back and form a question mark with his torso when pitched inside.

QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 21, 2009 -> 11:58 AM) The one show I heard of his morning show was when Ann Coulter called in late and Adam hung up on her right away. It was awesome. Was hoping it would get syndicated to Chicago but never was. That was great. She called in late and immediately gave him a little attitude and said she didn't have much time because someone gave her the wrong number. Then Adam said, "Well how'd you get the right number. Did you just dial randomly?" She said someone emailed it to her, and then said she didn't have much time to talk. So he said, "Okay" and hung up. Classic. I'll add that I love how he measures "himself." From mid-anus to just past the tip. I've adopted that myself.

QUOTE (The Critic @ Feb 20, 2009 -> 07:37 PM) Until the next paying gig comes along, and while KLSX is paying him to stay home, here is the site for Adam's (planned) daily podcast: http://www.carollaradio.com/ First podcast planned for Monday morning. Bookmark it, and...... Get. It. ON! GOT to get it on, no choice but to GET IT ON!!! :headbang He'll also show up on podcasts like Bill Simmons' (Today's - 2/20 is on iTunes) and Dave Dameshek's some time next week. On today's farewell show, Kimmel (when he wasn't busy fighting back tears) told Adam that Kevin and Bean want him on Monday (you can probably find a podcast of it somewhere). He'll be out there, I'm sure. Anyway, I don't know if they're still available, but podcasts of all of his shows from 2006 through today's were put up on iTunes yesterday. I downloaded a bunch from 2006, deleted the Bonaduce 2007 abortion, and picked a few from 2008 on. Should keep my iPod full for a while. Can't wait to see how the new podcast sounds.
  18. I just ordered tix to 3/1 against the Dodgers. Can't wait to see the new facility and, as a bonus, the Dodgers glorious home whites. It'll be like the '59 Series all over for my Dad. This time its personal.
  19. How long before the "superstars" still on the market start crying collusion? They're waiting for 2006 era contracts in a recession. Not very bright.
  20. Hopefully, the end result of all this is that salaries come down and tickets come down. Pro teams rely too much on corporations to buy tickets, and the "average" fan can't afford to go to more than a few games anymore. I'm looking at spending around $100 for tickets to a spring training game for my Dad, two kids and me. Then there's parking, food, etc. We're looking at $150 minimum. That's a little steep for a couple hours of low intensity baseball. I don't think that the current MLB price structure is really the best way to build the next generation of baseball fans.
  21. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 10, 2009 -> 12:07 PM) Must be a slap on the wrist (imo). Also I wonder if leaving the Orioles made it so Tejada no longer had Angelos law firm in his corner. Cause I swear when Palmeiro was being investigated Angelos made it clear that he would protect Raffy. I'm pretty sure that the Angelos/Palmeiro thing was brought up after Palmeiro was accused by Canseco, but before he tested positive. I think Palmeiro said he would fight the accusation. Then he wagged his finger at Congress. Then he peed.
  22. I'm conflicted. I'd like to know the names of all the players who failed the test in 2003, but I think it's unfair that a "survey" test that was supposed to remain anonymous has been leaked. It's unfair to the players who've been outed, but it's also unfair to "clean" players (if there are any) who are guilty by association. Oh, well, at least Bud Selig makes big bucks for completely and repeatedly dropping the ball.
  23. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 8, 2009 -> 10:42 PM) People can add weight and muscle mass as they get older. It's not uncommon. Ramirez was 22 years old in 1994. Rookie Card 500th homer I don't see a big enough difference. He wore a tighter uniform early in his career and as he's aged, he's gone to a real baggy like uniform. That probably explains some of it too. To me, that looks exactly like the Barry Bonds transformation, right down to the baggy uniform he's wearing when he hit the 500th homer.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 29, 2009 -> 10:32 AM) I've heard a number of people say that Bonds deserves to go in to the HOF based on what he did before he started taking steroids. I've always responded that we can't really know when he started; he may have started some all the way back in the 80's for all we know, and just switched products when his body exploded. If there's steroids other than the ones we've heard about him taking so far (THG and possibly Winstrol) in his urine, then does that call in to question any of his pre-1998 numbers in anyone else's eyes? I didn't realize that you were a great mind, but I had a similar thought today. I was thinking that if he was willing to cheat later in his career, who's to say that he didn't cheat earlier? Either way, his overall career has been marked by his unethical behavior. Therefore, regardless of how great he was early (and he actually struggled some early in the late 80's before becoming great in the early 90's - hmmm?), I don't think he belongs in the hall. Let him sit at a table with Pete Rose just outside the HOF. Might need to add a few leafs for Clemens, McGwire, et al.
  25. I don't like people who actively dislike kids. The thing with the movie theaters was mentioned earlier, and I agree that there are some movies that no matter what time of day, it's just inappropriate for kids to attend. However, if you must bring a child, have a quick exit planned, understand that you may not make it throught the movie, and have some consideration for people around you. If you do that, I don't really have a problem with you bringing your kids to the theater. I hate when people without kids (either never had any, or theirs are grown now) act out when my kids misbehave. Believe me, I'd rather not have my kids make a scene, it's stressful, and getting disapproving looks or head shakes from people doesn't make it any better. What, your kid never acted like a jerk in public? The worst is when it's in church or a restaurant, and the person observing the scene keeps looking over and making faces, etc. I can understand if it's going on for a long time unchecked, but if you see that the parent is making an effort to control the situation, turn around and give the parent a chance to control the situation. That said, I was listening to a podcast of "Dave Dameshek on Demand" on iTunes, and he tells a story of how he dealt with a similar problem on a flight he took. Dameshek is a former sideman on the Adam Carolla Radio Show, and his podcast is sports themed, and it can be hit or miss, but his retelling of this conflict is excellent. It's on the 12/30/08 episode, and the story starts at the 1:01:55 mark. Get it quick because I'm pretty sure it will be deleted in a few days as his newer shows are added. Speaking of planes, I hate that the people in the back of the plane start filling up the aisle and moving forward before the people in front move out.
