  1. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 15, 2012 -> 01:25 PM) Sale strikes out 26 en route to a 1-hit game and provides the games only run on a 9th inning HR. Fixed it! We know what happens after perfectos. I'm fine with a 1-hitter.
  2. I recently got a voice mail from a Sox ticket rep with a similar message, presumably because I purchased online tickets too. It was probably the same person; I assume they only have 1 guy making cold calls to each person who ordered tix this season. And he probably isn't very busy.
  3. This also explains the low attendance at US Cellular. For the average baseball fan, it takes a couple years to get with the program. They still think AJ deserves the hate, and they still think the Sox suck. I was actually at a party last night, and a group of people started talking about the Chicago baseball teams and how bad they are. Not one person knew the Sox were in first place.
  4. Go Cubbies! Ugghh.. now I feel sick to my stomach for saying that.
  5. Does anyone think the Sox-Cubs series a week from today will sell out? I'm predicting 33K for each game, and I think that's being generous.
  6. ^ Agree. They need to release $7 LD Corner seats just to fill those sections out. They could also have employees roam the UD concourse and ask people "Would you mind giving us 2 minutes of your time to answer a few questions for passes to the Lower Deck"? That could fill out the bleachers. A packed lower deck sure looks better on tv.
  7. Apples and oranges.. you're referring to a team that's always been and always will be a minor league team. They're motivated; they just can't compete in the majors.
  8. Sox just don't have much of a home field advantage. If they were drawing respectable crowds, the team would feed off the crowd's energy. Unfortunately the Cell is a ghost town this season and not only does it take away home field advantage, it's gotta be disheartening for the team to see a sea of empty sections.
  9. Well, assuming we win the division this year, it's a 50% chance at least 1 of the remaining regular season games will be a sell out... If the clincher is at home, it'll most likely sell out. I'm predicting that game will be the only sell out before the playoffs. Cubs series won't sell out; they didn't last year and they won't this year. They'll average 33K for that series. Overall, the attendance won't drop much from last season. Last season, we sold just over 2 million. This year it'll be just under 2 million, averaging just over 24K per home game. Next year all depends on advance season ticket sales. I study trends and numbers for a living, so this is how I see the attendance figures panning out.
  10. Sox are offering $9 UD seats and $27 LD seats for Thursday night's game to promote Humber's first start since his perfecto. I think it's a cool idea.. too bad I can't go that night. I really doubt this will have much of an impact on attendance... Thursday night, in the 40s, I can't see more than 20K showing up, even against the Red Sox.
  11. Wow! At the start of the week, it looked like this might be an exciting team to watch this year. What a crappy series! And we only averaged 12,000 for the 4-game series. Probably the lowest attended 4-game series in the history of the new Comiskey/US Cellular Field.
  12. Gotta win tomorrow. Gavin needs his A game. By the way, interesting note: There were more people at the Sox opener than the last 3 games combined. Are we gonna compete for last place in the attendance standings this year? I hope it doesn't get too embarrassing.
  13. It would be nice... but I don't see it happening. I'll watch the team regardless if they're 10 games out or in first place by Labor Day. It cracks me up when I hear from "fans" who say they only follow the team if they're contending. When people say, 'I wish they'd stop teasing us so I could move on to something else', it just makes me cringe. Where's the loyal fans who stick with the team through thick and thin? If you only follow the team when they're contending, you're a truly pathetic fan. Where's the f***ing loyalty?!?
  14. QUOTE (Lauren.Teahen @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 10:18 PM) Yes, this is really Marks wife. Guess that you will just have to trust me. I read through the majority of the thread and figured you all deserved to know the truth. I appreciate the kind words. Lauren, I hope you and Mark (and Espy and Ribi) have a wonderful time in Toronto. As a Sox fan, I'm saddened that it didn't work out for Mark here and things didn't bounce in his favor. We all know that Mark is a class act, and I hope you and Mark don't let Oney's tweets leave a bad impression of your time in Chicago. I'm shocked that Ozzie's kid would behave in such a manner, but it's happened, and all we can do is shake our heads. I hope he gets some help and turns his life around. Anyway, I always enjoy reading Mark's tweet, and I'll continue to read them and be a big fan of his. Hope the dogs are enjoying their move to Canada too. :-) Good luck with your move and hope Toronto turns out to be a good fit for Mark.
  15. If I was in charge of pricing, I would say $12 for upper box and $7 for upper reserve. No fanfare or media attention on the change, just let it spread by word of mouth. And if the media approached me and asked why the huge decrease in pricing, I'd nonchalantly say we looked around at other ballpark's pricing and saw what they were charging for their least expensive seats. If tix were $7, I'd go all the time.
  16. Friday nights typically don't draw huge crowds. Tonight should be more impressive, hopefully around 34-36K. The Cell rarely sells out because most people would understandably opt out of purchasing seats in those corners way out in the Upper Deck when they can just watch the game in the comfort of their home and get a better view on tv.. and they can always choose another game later in the schedule. If the Sox go on a losing streak here (wouldn't surprise me), crowds will be sparse in late August/September. Last year when the Sox fell out of the race, only 16,000 showed up one night to see the Sox vs Sawx.. and much less than that were actually in attendance.
  17. Just flipping through the channels this morning and noticed Windy City Live (ABC) is having a "Sox day" today. It's on now (9am hour).. nice to see the audience in Sox gear. Apparently Frank Thomas will be on later in the show.
  18. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 05:54 PM) Sweep the Cubs and it's back to above .500. This team is such a tease. Or just win game 3 on Sunday and still win the BP Cup!!
  19. If the Sox have a chance at winning the BP Cup in Game 2 or 3, will they open up the Cell so Sox fans can watch it on the jumbotron?
  20. What's going on? The great Oz must be mad at this organtation! He's sabotaging us before he moves to S Florida.
  21. It's on WGN for the whole nation to see. And it's fair weather day at the game. I stuck with the Bulls through thick and thin throughout the last decade, so I'm doing the same with the Sox. I'll probably wear a brown bag over my head but I'll be there as a loyal dedicated Sox fan.
  22. I expected Dunn to strike out a few times, but not to look this bad. I was hoping he'd come through tonight, so we could hear Hawk's inevitable and annoying as hell, "It's all good!".
  23. Woohoooo!! So are you flying into Midway or O'hare? Is Sr. coming along too.. don't quite get the April fools joke..
