"How the heck did we wind up with 5 people on that list? Time for some budget cuts."

But one of them is definitely Shelly Duncan and the long experience and skill that earned him the job totally offsets some of that.

Per Passan, Elvis Andrus signing with White Sox, joining team in Cleveland
With both Anderson and Leury out, the White Sox clearly needed two guys. If Sosa isn’t ready to be one of them, then Andrus and Romy are two worth trying. And unfortunately yeah, Sosa currently looks overmatched out there, and that can’t be fixed in a couple days no matter how much we want it to be.

Well do we really have confidence in the young guys being at a level where they can step up and contribute any time soon rather than being a black hole? That’s not a thing this franchise does very well. And yes, other franchises can do this and the white Sox can’t, this is a separate issue.

Great game
Just to remember, the Astros have lost Brantley for the season, Diaz went out this series, and McCullers just came back from the IL from the ALDS last season.

2022-23 NFL Season thread
- Sox won't fire TLR, but would reassign him after season
I don't get how you can say "They had to know (sic) that" when pretty much everyone, from fans to Fangraphs to professional sportswriters had them as the likely AL Central winner and in the low to mid 90s. I think I voted in the upper 80s here and that put me in the 10% most pessimistic - only a tiny sliver of people had this as an 82-84 win season.- Menechino is movable
The box score says 12 LOB?- Great game
That dropped them from 18th to 20th in run differential. Was just curious where that was so I checked. Congrats Arizona and Boston for moving ahead of them again.- 8/18 Finale vs. Astros (Giolito v. Garcia RHP) 1:10 PM
It's Lynn, Cueto, and Cease against McKenzie, Bieber, and Civale. It's hard to see either team sweeping the other one with those pitching matchups - Saturday seems evenly matched based on what people have done this year, Friday favors Cleveland and Sunday favors Chicago on paper.- 8/18 Finale vs. Astros (Giolito v. Garcia RHP) 1:10 PM

I don't really agreee this. There are so many guys who have punched below their weight this season. Lynn, Giolito, Moncada, Eloy, Robert, Grandal, Kelly, that there's not much they could have done to plan for it. They could still have planned better and been in first place in the AL Central and on pace for 86-87 wins if that's your goal fine, but I wouldn't call that "being in great position" when that's still straight into the wild card round or even bounced into 2nd place if Cleveland gets hot for the last week of the season while the White Sox are playing the Twins.- 8/18 Finale vs. Astros (Giolito v. Garcia RHP) 1:10 PM
Just because it's what I do, the White Sox are actually 8th in MLB in double plays grounded into per game. Potential playoff teams that have hit into more include Torotno, Minnesota, and Milwaukee.- 8/18 Finale vs. Astros (Giolito v. Garcia RHP) 1:10 PM
I agree that Giolito is likely in the rotation next year, because the White Sox have so many different guys they are hoping for "Bounce-back" seasons from that it hard to pick one or two to move.- 8/18 Finale vs. Astros (Giolito v. Garcia RHP) 1:10 PM
They're closer to $170 than $160 in my guesstimates already based on keeping most of the arb guys already (I don't see them dropping Ruiz and Foster in arb year 1 since they don't have replacements). Abreu coming back at a similar salary puts them basically at their current payroll, with room for a Cueto level deal again.- 8/18 Finale vs. Astros (Giolito v. Garcia RHP) 1:10 PM
For the White Sox I don't believe any of them are happening because of how bad their budget situation is. You're right though Nola was a team option.- 8/18 Finale vs. Astros (Giolito v. Garcia RHP) 1:10 PM
Bassitt, Rodon, Verlander, Nola, Quintana, Perez are 6 guys in the top 30 of pitching WAR this season who are FAs or have player options next year.- Menechino is movable
They won a few games in a row it's understandable. Didn't score a ton but got a few big hits. It has again been 3 full games, now working on 4, without a home run by the White Sox.- Per Passan, Elvis Andrus signing with White Sox, joining team in Cleveland
If Reese McGuire can DH, then yes, Elvis Andrus can start at DH if you have the right person making the lineup.- 08/16: Astros at Sox. 7:10, NBCSN (CEASE V VERLANDER)
Signaling where the catcher is set up? Defensive positions? I dunno.- 08/16: Astros at Sox. 7:10, NBCSN (CEASE V VERLANDER)
Astros announcers described it as an intentional balk.- 08/16: Astros at Sox. 7:10, NBCSN (CEASE V VERLANDER)
Huh? I don’t get it.- 8/13 Gamethread: Tigers @ Sox, Manning v. Giolito
Well. That escalated quickly.- 8/13 Gamethread: Tigers @ Sox, Manning v. Giolito
@KrankinSox was supposed to make a thread since his was a winner yesterday but only about an hour til game time now - Sox won't fire TLR, but would reassign him after season
