So I think it's now basically official that none of these are happening, with opening day rosters being announced. Luca$ will be a free agent in 3 years. As we've seen before, a whole bunch of so-called "insiders" were shoveling a lot of BS.

I am being tested weekly still and they have not asked that as part of the testing process. However, the employer is setting up a "show us your card so you won't need to quarantine if you travel out of state or get exposed to someone" system that I will take advantage of next week.

White Sox are still a World Series Contender
Balta1701 replied to vilehoopster's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'm not going to go on record with any guess about how this year is going to go other than "The Dodgers aren't a team, they're using a Game Genie". Because every one who might have a really high ceiling also has a worrisome floor and/or health worries of some sort that could crop up. I'd say "get excited because winter's over and we might all live through the last 13 months", don't get too down, don't get too high, enjoy the first games, and be ready to be angry at LaRussa for something because that'll take a few days at most. -

There is still an awful lot of potential in that lineup. -

We've been over this, but you leave that offer out there until the other options are dwindling. This year the outfielders included: Brantley, Springer, Eaton, Pederson, Grossman, Pillar, Ozuna, Schwarber, Rosario, Gardner, Profar. Ignoring the quality outfielders since a quality OF wasn't what the White Sox wanted...Schwarber and Eaton signed in December for larger contracts than they generally were expected to get. Pederson, Pillar, Rosario, Gardner all waited until late January to mid-February, and got smaller contracts than they were hoping for. Bradley was available until March. -
FWIW, I think this is also a self-fulfilling prophecy. I had to go to the mass site, because when I signed up, that was the only place my group was allowed. They expanded my group to local pharmacies only a couple days before my appointment, so it wasn't worth spending the time to try to find another appointment with mine days away. But today, my wife became eligible. She got herself an appointment at the mass site first - on May 1. Then she tried local pharmacies, got one in town on Saturday, and could have gotten one 30 minutes away tomorrow but picked the weekend slot. If the mass sites are being used for people who can't get in otherwise, or who can't drive there or whatever - great, but certainly not worth waiting a month for when the pharmacies have shots today.

I'm not going to be able to find the report, but there are definitely vaccine manufacturers in India and Southeast Asia that are sitting there with spare capacity that could be used to produce COVID-19 vaccines that have yet to get access to whatever it is they need to manufacture them. If that hack helps get around that - I will not feel bad at all.

The US Government literally guaranteed purchases to these companies as part of operation warp speed after giving them money for the tests. This isn't a complaint btw - that was, for once under the last administration, exactly the correct strategy - give them a guaranteed profit margin, so even the companies that had vaccine candidates that fail made money. But hey u know what that means - they already have a guaranteed profit on these things. Every single license they sell is extra money for them at this point.

The 2 main action scenes have been incredible work for on my TV. Would have fit in perfectly with something on the big screen, really impressive. They've really taken advantage of the TV format and the extra time to give us the sort of character development we could never have gotten on the big screen. The 8 minute sessions with the therapist were excellent TV, but never would have worked in a movie.

I'm pretty sure you just threatened to kill both Irving and Durant.
-
They need a roster spot for Lamb?
-
Remember when people were wondering whether Jones would be there for the Bears?
-
Also in there - results of a study on health care workers over the last 3 months showing a 90% drop in total infections after both vaccine shots are given.

If the white Sox would like us to avoid over panicking on spring training, perhaps they would like to avoid 10 year playoff droughts and maybe make a World Series once every 15 years.

Here we go again- Sox in talks with Puig and Cespedes per Hector Gomez
Balta1701 replied to Orlando's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Be careful before Puig turns this into a suggestion. -

How much of that was an excuse to send fewer shots to black neighborhoods? They definitely did that in Georgia, for at least the one I saw documented.

ELOY HURT! (3/25 Update: Torn Pectoral Tendon, Out 5-6 months))
Balta1701 replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
First of all, if you go to Fangraphs it's 3.5, not 2.8. Secondly, that's in his first 168 games. In 2020 he put up 1.6 fWAR, but because there was this virus everywhere that was in only 55 games. If he were to have played 150 games at that pace, that's a 4.4 fWAR win/season pace. Steamer had him for 3.4 wins, and they tend to underestimate young guys. With improvement from being a 3rd-ish year player, he could totally have been a 5-win player. -

I haven’t looked into why he fell apart so badly last year but Pitt would probably shed a portion of Gregory Polanco’s deal for nothing. Owed $14 million this year if bought out at the end of the year.
