  1. I don't think it'll have much trouble beating the 2nd/3rd biggest opening weekend (national/international ranking respectively). That #1 opening weekend, set by Avengers: Infinity War might be tougher, but I think it gets it. Sarcasm aside, my more intriguing bet is it tops a $300 million US opening.
  2. He'll probably hit better than this...but that doesn't matter. He was a bust the day it turned out he wasn't going to talk his in-law into taking a $50 million discount.
  3. What a steaming pile of newt poop that list is.
  4. Throwing a baseball at a guy getting only 5 games should be viewed as even more ridiculous than the Anderson suspension.
  5. Hypothetically if Santana were dropped for Gio...we'd literally have spent more than $1 million per start on Santana, wouldn't we?
  6. I could be missing someone in the list but so far this season he's ~3rd in MLB in WARP (the Baseball Prospectus one, which puts the highest weight on framing statistics and was the one people argued showed him as a negative catcher last year).
  7. Ok, got it, the Cap Hold is 120% of the projected $6.8 million salary. Thanks.
  8. I believe they only need to clear out about $13 million. Blakeney and Lemon are shown by Hoopshype as having 2019 guaranteed contracts?
  9. Assuming they got the first pick, the Cap hold is $6.8 million. That would put them at $89 million and change, with a projected $109 million salary cap. A max deal for Klay Thompson would be $32.7 million in year 1. Dunn and Valentine gone for nothing would be insufficient to offer a Max deal in this case.
  10. While I didn't like the Narvaez deal, I do want to admit that I find it extra ironic that as of right now Narvaez has slightly improved his framing stats compared to last year and Welington Castillo now shows up as substantially worse.
  11. You're clearly not going to get me defending Rick Hahn in any way, shape, or form, but that still doesn't change the reality with Avi Garcia. He would have been more expensive here, on a 1 year deal. He would be covering RF better than what we have so far this year, but the odds of him staying healthy for the full season are still low. Had he performed well, the best we would have gotten out of him is trading him to a team for someone who probably doesn't even fit into our top 30 prospects at the deadline - corner OF hitters with injury histories don't go for much at the deadline (See: Jay Bruce for a recent example). Palka should have been at DH and not in RF, but he absolutely earned more at bats last year. Cordell hasn't played poorly. If one of those guys can become an adequate DH or 4th outfielder next year, that player right there is more valuable to us than anything Avi Garcia would have done for the 2019 White Sox.
  12. What's the price of the pitcher you're after? If you're getting one without trading any of those 3, then the pitcher you're getting is probably a back of the rotation guy at best.
  13. Basically his option is on pace to vest unless he gets hurt.
  14. Because the tanking tactic may be powerful enough to overcome their decision making. You could be a terrible gambler but if you've got loaded dice, you could still come out ahead.
  15. As of today, Alonso has 72 plate appearances in the White Sox's first 18 games. At that rate, he would receive 648 plate appearances over a full 162 game season. Due to the number of PAs he received last year with Cleveland, his 2020 option vests if he reaches 526 PAs.

  17. I wouldn't want Yoan to actually charge him, but saying something loudly and pointing at the pitcher would have been a great way to protect and show support for Anderson.
  18. The Tigers have not scored more than 7 runs in a game all season.
  19. If the team hadn't started crying poor right after getting these guys I'd have very little problem with Nova going 6 innings and giving up 5 runs most times out. His job is to throw 6 innings, not throw 6 good innings. For where this franchise should have been, that'd be worth his salary...but apparently they can't afford to spend money on anything other than keeping their next core together.
  20. My guess would be they'll try to use any rainouts or offdays as starter 5 and then do exactly that if they need a 5th starter, one of them starts and goes 3-4 and the rest of the bullpen handles the rest.
  21. I could see the White Sox wanting Charlotte to make the IL playoffs.
  22. Maybe they also told him they wanted him to work with the young catchers/gave him a little extra minor league money to do so
  23. If I'm reading the stats right it looks like Zavala has only DHd for 2 games, Collins 0. If Charlotte is only carrying those 2 catchers, they may not want to "lose" the DH spot if they have something happen to the catcher. If they want those 2 playing every day, they probably need a 3rd catcher.
