Films Thread
QUOTE (IamtheHBOMB @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 02:45 AM) My dad had a small part in that film. He told me that Frank Vincent is a super nice guy. Which part? I watched Blade Runner for the first time last night. According to Netflix, I wouldn't enjoy it that much (but it's so highly ranked, especially in the sci-fi genre that I felt I should see it). I thought it was pretty meh, which is exactly how Netflix said I would feel about it. It's crazy how precise that site is.

How can an actual MLB manager continue to justify playing time for Mar
QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 10:52 PM) I know he has to deal with quite a few knuckleheads calling in to the postgame shows, but does anyone else think Ranger is a little full of it/himself? I find his demeanor to be condescending at times and he seems to toe the company line far too often as well. Forgive me (or warn me) if I am crossing the line of personal attacks, but to me it hits home even more when he posts here and gets into arguments with others. For the most part, I think this site is not full of the same post game caller idiots he typically deals with and he shouldn't approach them as if they are. On occasion he beats his arguments to death and appears both stubborn and arrogant. I also have noticed far too many posters on here stroke him because he is a supposed radio personality and they give him a free pass when he is spewing the cliches. I know he can't be held responsible for the actions of fanboys, but they act as if he is really courageous for posting and getting flamed. Well, isn't that a risk we all take? A riskier approach would be if he stated that most of these "hated" players were put into a position to fail too often and that it is understandable when the fans take it out on the player, but the fans should realize the player is only trying to do the job asked of him by the manager. No, he won't ruffle feathers like that, but rather say dumb things like "Kotsay is not going to cost you the division...if the Sox lose the division, it will be because their pitching failed." That is what he actually posted in one topic here the other day and he got some level of praise for posting his opinions. It really burns me up! Again, sorry if this is construed as a personal attack, but if we can flame Hawk and Stone for sugar coating the Kotsay issue, then I think Rongey is fair game, too. I have liked you ever since I first saw your moniker.

Harrell Optioned to AAA.
QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 07:31 PM) Screw the guy who gave us a big game when we needed it, I want Carlos Torres to s*** the bed and give up 5 runs. I don't think they could call him back up so quickly, but I agree about Torres. I can't stand p*****s who don't throw strikes.

threets to dl
QUOTE (PlunketChris @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 11:34 AM) This sounds about as legitimate as the Padres sending Mat Latos to the DL right after the all-star break after he "strained his oblique holding in a sneeze," right after they announced they planned on substantially pushing back his next start.. Fishy DL business, but I'm ok with it if it helps the Sox win or keep some guys in the show. Think teams try to come up with really ridiculous/hilarious reasons for injuries when they make them up?

QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 11:06 AM) Hah...knew someone was going to magically come down with some ailment...was just hoping it would be Kots... I came into this thread just to make that point.

Don Cooper and Edwin Jackson Part II
OK, now I'm getting a little excited. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Aug 2, 2010 -> 10:51 PM) I honestly am excited about him. He has the kind of arm to explode for us if Coop can get him right. Hopefully not like Peavy.

i am drunk
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 2, 2010 -> 10:26 PM) Forgot to mention this before but I was in Wrigleyville Friday night and you'll never guess which athlete I saw walking around absolutely hammered out of his mind... Kane? A buddy of mine met him and a few other athletes the other night. They were all really nice, but Kane was a complete asshole.

Don Cooper and Edwin Jackson
QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 2, 2010 -> 11:21 AM) He's just not as fatigued since he's not getting used much. Since June 11th... 9.2 Innings, 9 hits, 2 ER, 4 BB, 8 K, 2 HR, 1.86 ERA. Because of the home runs, he does have a 5.47 FIP. Whoa, less than 10 innings in more than a month and a half? That's very little use. And 9 hits in 9 innings isn't great.

Don Cooper and Edwin Jackson
QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Aug 2, 2010 -> 11:04 AM) I was about to say, why hasn't Coop fixed Liney?? ;-) It would be nice if he got his act together and started hitting his spots, our Pen would be just killer It kind of already is killer. It'd jump to elite (one of the best of the last 20 years) if he and Jenks had a great finish to the season.

Don Cooper and Edwin Jackson
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 2, 2010 -> 11:01 AM) And slightly off topic but anyone else notice that Linebrink's last 8 or 9 starts have been pretty damn good? Could you imagine if he had one of those elite half seasons the rest of the way? Shhhhhhhh. Don't talk about it.

Catch All Anything Thread
You definitely need to pass them along to somebody who is trained to deal with depression, not just for their own good, but for your own. Imagine the person ends up actually going through with it. There's a good chance you'd end up blaming yourself for something you couldn't control and have no training to deal with.

August White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 05:05 PM) We have a decidedly easier August schedule than the Twins. We play Detroit 7 times, the Orioles 7 times, the Royals 3 times, the Indians 3 times, and the Twins 6 times. Meanwhile, Minnesota plays Tampa Bay 4 times, the Indians 3 times, the A's 3 times, the Angels 3 times, the Rangers 4 times, the Mariners 3 times, the Tigers 1 time, and us 6 times. We need to take care of our central division opponents so we can be in good shape heading into September, as they have the easier schedule that month... I expect 20 wins there.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 03:31 PM) god, if jenks pitches like that from here on out... We'd be set, and Jenks would be set in free agency. Everyone would win. Great game all around.

Sox fine as-is?
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 03:13 PM) No one is counting the Twins out. He was responding to Greg's post basically counting us out. It wasn't just him. I've seen quite a few posts talk about how the Twins won't stick around because of their pitching (mainly starters).

White Sox Opening Day Lineups (Sporcle)
I got 178. I only missed three guys from the 2000's (Ozuna, Swisher, and Lofton). The only three I missed and felt like I should have gotten were Fernandez, Cora, and Navarro. There were a few guys who I didn't even know were on the Sox at one point and some guys I flat-out never heard of.

July White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 08:36 AM) All I gotta say is that Kotsay better be DFA'd upon Teahen's retutrn. There is no need for him at that point. Teahen can take his place as the DH lefty platoon with Jones while Viciedo and Vizquez can platoon at 3b. Lillibridge needs to stay on the bench for speed and PHing duties. Totally agreed.

Sox fine as-is?
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 12:19 PM) Ramon Castro=therapist. I'm not a big fan of the nicknames you see around here often times, but that one really applies and fits for a few reasons. What is the story behind the nickname, though? I assumed it meant Castro, but never saw it before.

Sox fine as-is?
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 02:53 PM) I don't think Ozzie is going to give Dayan enough at bats to have him truly make the impact he's capable of. He has to get his boy Kotsay in there for whatever reason. I'd also like to see therapist get more AB's in AJ's place as the catcher until he cools off, but I'm not holding my breath there. What?

Sox fine as-is?
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 02:52 PM) While Id like to improve the offense, KW just doesnt have the bullets this year, unless he wants to give up something that will hurt the Sox in the future (Beckham/Dayan). I am more optimistic than other Sox fans about the current team because I think that Beckham/Dayan can have big second halves and that if the Sox work Teahen, Dayan and Vizquel right that they can overcome some of the worries at DH/3b. That is where I get a ray of hope. There is a chance, IF Ozzie handles it correctly, that we can get by with this rotating DH thing.

Sox fine as-is?
QUOTE (Hawk09 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 02:08 PM) Excuse me? Minny almost swept the Sox? The Sox dominated in game 1,and in game 2 and 3 had the winning run in scoring position with PK at the plate in the 9th. Then Bobby blew a 3 run lead in the 9th of game 4. Sox should and could have very easily swept that seriis in Minny. The Twins are not a strong favorite. They still lack a starter or two. Duesing,Baker, and Slowey are very inconsistent. I really hate seeing people count the Twins out. They are half a game back right now. They are a very serious threat to us.

Sox fine as-is?
QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 12:58 PM) Hey everyone, am I the only one that think the Sox is fine as they are currently constructed? I mean,... the Sox has 58 wins, they had, like, a 13-game win streak, a 8 game win streak, and two 5 game win streaks (forgot the exact lengths of the streaks). I think I'd rather stick to the offense that's been belting out the runs the past couple weeks and not risk disrupting any team chemistry by bringing in another bat. I also think Edwin Jackson will help this team more than a bat can. Jackson makes our rotation air-tight and I think he's gonna surprise a lot of people. Plus, with Threets in our bullpen the bullpen is so much more better at Putz, Thornton, Santos, Pena, Jenks, Threets, Linebrink. I dunno, I'm just feeling VERY VERY confident in this team now, and as long as they keep winning, I don't think they'll need to trade for a DH bat. Wow, no. I hate when people use chemistry as a reason not to strengthen your team. I agree that the pitching staff should be much more than sufficient as it currently stands, but we really need a better hitter at DH (or OF with Quentin moving to DH).
