  1. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 31, 2008 -> 08:45 PM) QUOTE (scenario @ Aug 31, 2008 -> 08:57 PM) You're right... it did surprise me. And I hope you're right about the game. Below me.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 31, 2008 -> 09:06 PM) Dare I say, Gavin could make an incredible arguement to be the White Sox MVP right now. It would be a tough choice between him and Carlos... Without either of those guys, this is a third place team... at best. No love for Danks?

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 31, 2008 -> 11:56 PM) So "Casino" is on right now. Probably seen it over 25 times. One of my favorites. However, I never realized it was based on factual events. After reading up on it, the scene where Joe Pesci gets beaten and buried alive was based off events that happened in Dupage County. Ha, funny you should mention that. I just watched Raging Bull for the first time, believe it or not. The part in Casino where Pesci gets beaten to death by Frank Vincent is so fulfilling, it's strange. It's the same feeling I get when Pesci gets it in Goodfellas. But, in regards to Raging Bull, did Pesci nail De Niro's wife? I assumed it was LaMotta being too jealous, but I dunno.
  4. I am going to say something that may surprise everyone. I think we are going to take it to Lee tomorrow.
  5. Pretty damn good game all around. Floyd and Danks have been a revelation.
  6. Killer Kowalski passed away yesterday. RIP.
  7. For the life of me, I don't understand why every other team doesn't bring up a scrub from AAA to face the White Sox each time they play them.
  8. QUOTE (scenario @ Aug 30, 2008 -> 01:34 PM) I find it interesting that anytime Javy has a less than stellar game, people come out the woodworks to roast his entire career. Consider that... Javy has given up 4 or fewer runs in 20 out of his 27 starts this year. The most runs he has given up in any start this year is 6. In other words, there haven't been any situations this year where a good offensive team should be out of a game because of Javy. And he's pitched 4 outstanding (not good... outstanding) games that he lost because the Sox didn't score s**t. So, he should be 14-10 this year, not 10-12. This following up 2007 where he was one of the best and most consistent starters in the American League and 15-8 on a team with one of the worst records in baseball. I'm not suggesting that he's Cy Young, just fascinated that a guy who been a much better than league average starter for the Sox continues to catch so much crap. Let me start by saying that I always make a point to post when Vazquez does well. Second, he had to have those outstanding games just to get his ERA down to 4.38. And you bring up 2007, which is the funny part because that is his MO. He pitches well only when there is no pressure on him. I've been over this a million times.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 10:43 PM) Hamlet 2 was actually pretty f***ing hilarious. Do you and your wife take turns picking which movies you see?

QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Aug 30, 2008 -> 05:03 AM) "College" was far from a good movie. NO WAY!
  11. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 30, 2008 -> 01:31 PM) We lost 8-0. Wasn't much Javy or anyone else was going to do about that. Are you saying that, because the offense didn't score, that Vazquez is not at fault at all for the loss? He gave up 5 runs.
  12. QUOTE (YASNY @ Aug 30, 2008 -> 11:46 AM) BlackJack was one of those pitchers that pitched just well enough to win. In fact, he's the one example I use when I run into that argument that W's is a bad stat to judge a pitcher by. BlackJack was the exception to that rule. He was the type of pitcher that when he didn't have his best stuff and the game was close, he'd battle his ass off. He was also the type that if he had a 5 run lead, he'd come right after a hitter and if that guy hit one out, so be it. ERA be damned, Jack McDowell was a winner in every sense of the word. Well, unless you mean a World Series winner, ha.
  13. Well, this is my first and only White Sox game this year. And, of course, it had to be Vazquez on the mound. I sure don't hate him less today than I did before. Also, as the other thread mentioned, we can't beat good teams. I believe Matsuzaka has averaged like 5 IP per start this year. Not surprisingly, he goes 8 strong against us. EDIT: I RUE the day we acquired Vazquez.
  14. QUOTE (kageman129 @ Aug 28, 2008 -> 10:22 AM) This makes me scared for the future, but I love that the Tigers are buried so low now . . . Shuts all those Tigers fans up. Yeah! Take that, Bonderman38. Always coming around here talking s***! How do you like us now?
  15. QUOTE (SpringfieldFan @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 11:54 AM) Shhh... don't tell him the Sox won a championship while he was away SFF Fixed.
  16. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 10:33 PM) I cannot understand their hatred for hoagies. Really grinds my gears. I agree completely with this, even if I don't actually like him as a player. Ooooooooooooh, he said it!
  17. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 10:22 PM) These responses are funny. Cabrera is a 3rd in the AL in WS for SS, is way, way ahead in defensive WS and other advanced defensive metrics, and is swinging a decent (for a SS) bat. And take it from me: I f***ing hated this trade and hated O-Cab as late as this July. But he's made a believer out of me. He's not a great hitter, but he's a guy that from SS will put up a solid 280/330/390 line and more than make up for his offensive mediocrity with great defense. Like most of you after watching him for a few games I thought his defense was horrible. He rounds off balls, doesn't have a strong arm, and seems to just make routine plays look hard. But after watching him play (I'd say I've seen about 50% of the innings played so far this year) he really does make all the plays. He might not have the best range, or the best arm, or the best hands: but he does have good skills in all those areas. Rarely does he not make a tough play. The advanced defensive metrics back this up. Furthermore, he's going to net the Sox 2 nice draft picks this winter, what the hell isn't to love about that? Cabrera is a vital player on this good Sox team, there is no reason (other than the meaningless scorer stuff) to not like him. Well, let me start by saying most people don't care about the statistics when their eyes tell them the opposite. Secondly, in regards to the bold part, I've seen almost 100% of the innings this year. And no, no he does not really "make all the plays."
  18. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 10:19 PM) The av and post work well together. I wouldnt say I like him. Or hate him. I dont know him, so I dont see it as my place to make rash judgments. I don't follow?
  19. Ha, it's looking like you're the only person who likes OC, Princess Dye.
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 10:08 PM) Yes, and he made some awesome plays in the field, plays Uribe couldnt have made. Im happy to have Joe back. I don't see how that's a fact.
  21. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 10:08 PM) All your points make sense, but then that last line.... it just seems a little harsh to put him sub Erstad, no? Actually you're putting him sub-many guys who were way worse. I think when a guy carries himself like OC does, it makes people react a little harsher to whatever stats he does put up. Freaking BA gets on the recent All-time Favorite Sox list and yet puts up nowhere near the consistency OC does. Erstad actually seemed like he wanted to play for this team. Cabrera does not.
  22. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 10:01 PM) I think the better question is why any OC love? -His fielding is incredibly over-rated. I wasn't a big Cabrera follower before he got to the Sox, but I was always under the impression he played pretty sound D. His lazy efforts and incredibly poor timed errors left me surprised to say the least. -His bat leaves alot to be desired, especially in the lead-off spot. I know he can't control where he bats in the lineup, but it still contributes to my dislike. He doesn't have as much power as I thought he would coming over to the Cell, his OBP is poor for a top of the order hitter, and his "smallball" techniques leave a lot to be desired, which I thought Cabrera was well known for. -The whole scorekeeper controversy was probably a bit overblown, but it still looked bad. On top of it, he doesn't seem to fit all that well in the clubhouse( I have no inside knowledge), and Williams has hinted at being a bit surprised at what he got back in Cabrera. I said it a few days ago to some friends of mine, and I stand by it. Cabrera is probably my least favorite White Sox starter in the last 6-7 years. I agree with absolutely everything you said, including that very last line. The only thing I'd add is that it seems like he doesn't even want to be on this team.
  23. QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 09:51 PM) Ahem.... I believe I was close. You were actually right on.
  24. Good game, pretty much all around.
  25. QUOTE (Wanne @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 09:44 PM) When I first started reading yer post...those are the first guys that came to mind...Tigers. They are pretty good. I HATE the Royals announcers...whine too much. Mariners = VERY BAD...and old. Blue Jays...don't remember. The Rays weren't too bad IIRC... My line of thinking was that I knew it was a bad team, so I first thought of all of the really bad teams I knew of in the AL. I eventually remembered that it was the Tigers.
