  1. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 19, 2017 -> 04:25 PM) I have always wanted the Sox to stick with Avi Garcia. He is 25 years old and IMO he has always fit in the long term real plans Finally someone else who agrees with me. Let's hope Hahn is on our side. I'd love to hear them announce a deal soon and think the figures I mentioned to start this thread would be fair to all (6 years / $72 million).
  2. QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Apr 19, 2017 -> 09:53 AM) Yeah, why not? After all, the Tim Anderson extension has worked like a charm so far. Also, lock up Davidson for another 5-6 years, while we're at it. Davidson has to prove himself a little longer. He didn't have to suffer under the Ventura regime which held many players production to 70% or less of their capacity. It's clear now that Avi was the biggest victim of Robin's "leadership" and I hope we can keep "Little Miggy" in the fold for a long time as he blossoms into a first ballot HOFer.
  3. Those of you poo-pooing the move will regret it if he fetches $25 million per year in the offseason. This could be our chance to lock up a Mike Trout or Bryce Harper type talent for half the dough. It could be instrumental in building that 2020 World Series championship team. Waiting is suicidal. This a move that needs to be made now before its too late.
  4. With Avi becoming one of the best hitters in all of baseball, should we make the move now to secure him long term? I think we could get a good discount based upon his performance of the last several years. Perhaps something like 6 years / $72 million? $12 million a year could still be a steal for someone capable of winning a triple crown and he's still young enough to be an integral part of our team when the prospects mature. I know some may say I sound crazy......but you have to roll the dice sometimes and this may be a good time to gamble.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 16, 2017 -> 08:48 AM) Should have traded when you could. Now we are stuck with him. He really has only had 2 bad innings. He pitched well last Sunday but the Sox scored 1 run. He was awful in the first yesterday but pitched decently after that and wasn't going to win anyway since the Sox could only muster 1 hit. Despite some big performances the Sox offense has been mostly brutal. They have a game they scored 11, one they scored 10, and have averaged 2 runs a game in the others. It looking around the league there are a ton of players with crazy awful offensive numbers. I think Q had a different routine this spring and peaked for the WBC, and it will take him a bit to get back to normal. He had something to pitch for in the WBC. He has nothing to pitch for now. He figures he isn't going to be on the team by the end of the year and its not going to affect his income at all (option years are low enough they will be picked up as long as his ERA is below 5). It actually benefits him to pitch poorly as his new team will be able to hold onto prime prospects when acquiring him. People can say this is BS all they want, but motivation affects 100% of people in how they perform and he has none. Hahn handled this poorly and we'll unfortunately pay a price.
  6. Avi may bring back the biggest haul of prospects from any of our players if he keeps this up!
  7. Shields has to be one of the top candidates for Cy Young as of now.
  8. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 03:38 PM) Shields' velocity looks way better. He's hitting 92. We might be able to flip him at the deadline if he's serviceable. If he keeps pitching like this, we may contend. We may be buyers instead of sellers.
  9. I'm not sure we are sellers yet. We're only one game out of the wild card.
  10. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 6, 2017 -> 04:12 PM) When they were 23-10 last year, they had several blowout wins. When they were 23-10 last year, they had won one game by a 10-1 score. No other victory was by more than 6 runs. We are going to the World Series this year! Book it!!!!!! http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/schedule/s...le.jsp?c_id=cws
  11. James Shields appears to be back! If we can get him to go 7 or 8 innings every start and give up only 1 run or less, this could be huge for us!
  12. The biggest change for the positive is no more Robin. That should be good for at least 10 extra wins alone. The only thing is that's offset by the loss of Sale, Eaton, and others. I don't see us being worse, but don't see us being better either.
  13. Time to shock the world.....104-57 (one rainout not rescheduled)
  14. QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Jan 18, 2017 -> 08:57 PM) Well, the 2013 team won 63, so anything is possible. The 2013 team also had to deal with Robin Ventura as manager. That alone was good for 15-20 losses per season.
  15. I'm contemplating a weekend run from Vegas at some point this season.
  16. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 03:37 PM) We now have multiple threads so I'll post this here, too. If I see one more post demanding Turner ++ for Quintana +. Washington is not going to trade Turner for guys their fans have never even heard of - there would be a mutiny. Trea Turner, in 73 games last year across 307 at bats, had a .937 OPS with 13 homers, 14 doubles, 8 triples, and 33 stolen bases. WHAT THE F*CK THEY ARE NOT GOING TO F*CKING TRADE THIS GUY. Their fans would riot. I would ask for Turner and demand that Harper kid as well.
  17. Brooks Boyer gets to add a throw back jersey day to the 2017 promotional calendar.
  18. Time to start signing some free agents than.....lets make a run in 2017!
  19. I wonder if Obama has developed any sort of relationship with Bryce Harper during their time in DC together? Could he help lure him to the Sox when he hits free agency?
  20. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Sep 26, 2016 -> 04:12 PM) The stadium is much better equipped than wrigley and soldier field for a concert. Wrigley is abysmal for attending a concert. Wrigley is abysmal for baseball. Anytime I hear anyone talk about that stadium positively, I know they've been taking drugs.
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 24, 2016 -> 03:44 PM) Some Sox fans are talking about bringing back Ozzie for gosh sakes. If you can get LaRussa, get it done. We're the White Sox not some good franchise. This would be a coup for us. Pay the man. One.More.WS.Title.Please! LaRussa never won a World Series for us. Ozzie did. Make Guillen the highest paid manager in the game and give him a lifetime contract.
  22. I would like to have Ozzie back. If that doesn't happen, my next choice would be Wally Backman. He had a nice run in the Mets organization, but just left at the end of the season as he was tired of being overlooked for big league jobs. He would create a complete 180 change in this clubhouse though and get the most out of the roster.
  23. It's nice of Jose to say that change "starts with him".....that's something a leader should say. However, we all know that change starts with the manager. Having a leader in the dugout that shows some desire to win instills that attitude throughout the entire team. Having an unemotional trainwreck of a leader who shows no intensity rubs that attitude onto everyone in the dugout. Unfortunately, its been allowed to ingrain so deeply, it make take more than a year for a new manager to overcome it. It's the biggest mistake of this organization in the last 10 years to allow Robin to maintain a job so long.
  24. I don't really want us to finish the season on a positive note. Winning 60-70% of our remaining games will only make management think that Robin can get the job done next year. Let's lose, lose, lose, and get a new skipper.
  25. I like the nucleus as long as there's a managerial change. I'm not convinced that Robin will be gone (as he would have been long gone with any other organization) and can't have optimism til that happens. If he's here, you might as well rebuild. If Ozzie's coming back, it's world series for sure in 2017.
