Luis Robert out for at least 7 days
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 01:40 PM) Right now I see a realistic track for Robert to be: Start 2018 season in A ball, with the possibility of promotion to A+ with good performance. I expect a player with his pedigree to thrive and show us what he's got. Start 2019 should be in A+ ball or possibly AA if everything breaks right for him. Robert is a really difficult one to predict. Until we get him to the point where we can see where he is ready and where he is raw, we don't know if he will be here soon, or more of a traditional path. In theory with his international experience he could zoom through especially the lower levels of the minors. It wouldn't shock me at all if he were quickly in AA in 2018. It also wouldn't shock me if he wasn't in Chicago until next decade. There is more unknown with him than literally any other player the White Sox control right now.

Jurickson Profar and Domonic Brown
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 01:08 PM) Francisco Lindor turned down that offer after seasons of 4.5 fWAR (in 99 games) and 6.3 fWAR. I guess we have different expectations for Tim Anderson. And at that point he was proven. That is the point. If you sign them before they do that, it is WAY cheaper than if you wait for them to prove themselves.

Luis Robert out for at least 7 days
QUOTE (raBBit @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 12:56 PM) Robert is going to be fine. I don't think it's unreasonable to say let's just write off his 2017 and get excited when he joins Kanny next April. Also, CWS is right on with the tax implications of keeping him in the DR. If that's the price to pay than so be it. If that was what got him to sign... Viva la Dominican!

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 12:24 PM) Chris Sale - 5 years, $32.5 million Jose Quintana - 5 years, $21 million Adam Eaton - 5 years, $23.5 million All three were more proven and further along than TA is. Where are you getting this $100 million figure? How many years ago were they? And yes by the time he is "proven" we are talking about years, not another month or two. Once you hit the area where you are in your last non-arb year and into your arb years, that cost is nine figures. Look at the extension Lindor turned down. Even look here at the difference between Anderson's deal and what 1 to 2 years of service does to the amount of a deal. Each year makes a large amount of difference. The Sox are going to get 9 years of control for about the price of Simmon's 7 year deal. https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/francisc...-term-contract/

QUOTE (bjm676 @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 10:56 AM) Might as well get rid of Volstad while they're at it. No reason he should be taking starts away from Stephens or Guerrero. My guess is because he is still there, they aren't in a big hurry to move guys up. If they were, they would have made space a long time ago.

The Korea Situation; It's Very Serious
QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 10:24 AM) Welp, over the last 50 years, we haven't had a third World War that would have killed millions of people and devastated the Asian economy, while probably not actually helping the North Koreans on the ground. Do you have a solution that doesn't lead to that? Unless you are Korean, but that's cool. They don't count.

The Korea Situation; It's Very Serious
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 09:01 AM) In the last Korean war we killed 20% of the North Korean population. Today that would be over 5 million people. So fairly close to how many this regime has already killed so far.

The Korea Situation; It's Very Serious
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 08:26 AM) Diplomatic solutions to problems actually have some record of success in the world. Maybe it works this time, maybe it doesn't. Diplomatic solutions won't get rid of NK's nuclear capabilities, but *maybe* they could stop their ability to project those weapons regionally or globally. It's certainly not a guarantee. The track record for foreign military interventions or targeted assassinations or backing coups is far, far worse than diplomatic approaches. SK, China, Japan, and Russia, the countries that are actually most likely to have to deal with NK's bulls*** whether it's unlikely first-strike actions or post-US strike humanitarian crises, are not on board. Perhaps that should be an indication, especially SK's and Japan's stances, that rushing into yet another foreign military adventure is not the smartest move. Does SK actually want unification and the massive problem of now having to take care of NK's population? I'm fairly certain China wants a buffer. The broader point about the State Department being non-functional at this point is that there are lot of negotiations and discussions that normally would happen between administrators, diplomats and foreign service workers in the background. Instead we're getting two highly unstable and incompetent morons shouting at each other in increasingly unhinged public statements. A competent, professionally staffed State Department *might* be able to work to diffuse Trump's idiocy, but unfortunately the oilman in charge is also an incompetent idiot so that's one less major avenue of addressing this problem. Can we please have a solution that doesn't make it easier for them to develop their nukes and kill millions more people, as we have done for the past 50 years?

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 11:12 PM) Yup, let's negotiate with the madman and assume he'll keep up his end of the bargain! Great idea Balta! Amazing how you can rip our "top men" and yet come up with this gem. That has totally worked. It has only allowed him to fully develop a functional nuclear program.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 08:20 PM) More lies from a coward who can't answer any questions. Bombing people doesn't save them. There is a very long history including many places around the world today demonstrating that. What other countries do you want to bomb and occupy? How many extra deaths from that will be enough to convince you it doesn't work. This isn't about partisan domestic politics but that's the only well you know how to go to. Go back and you'll find balta and others against this sort of interventionism during Obama's presidency as well. You've been here more than long enough and have participated in enough conversations to know this. Stop lying. I am sure the millions of dead non-whites appreciate your concern for everyone but them.

Delmonico promoted to big league club
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 11:44 PM) Last 2 threads I clicked on to actually talk about baseball ( you know young players, the shift, stealing bases) have devolved into amateur shrink threads about Tim Anderson. So anyway how about that kid Delmonico bunting for hits 2 times now to beat the shift. Would be cool to see Moncada do that from the left side also. Love it. I mean if they are going to GIVE you something like an 80/90% chance at a hit, you HAVE to take it. We talk about statistics in baseball and odds and run expectancy, this highest possibility has to be when they give you that kind of of a percentage at a base hit versus any of the other odds.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 09:40 AM) To me, the results don't matter, it's about the process. If the process is good and we lose, we're good. If the process is good and we win and we get a worse draft pick, it's worth it. If the process is bad and we get the #1 pick, we're still in trouble. For example: Moncada's second AB is the only one I was able to see. He drew a walk on a full count. I'm glad he drew the walk, because he continues to show patience and a good process -- forcing the pitcher to throw him what he wants. However, what I DIDN'T like were the two swings he took. Both were offspeed pitches, and were strikes belt high and on the outer half. He clearly recognized them as pitches he wanted to hit, but he tried to pull both of them and was way out in front. Keuchel is a junk slinger and a good one, so it's easy to miss the first one. But between the video prep he should have done, Keuchel's reputation, coaching prep that should have happened, and seeing the pitch earlier in the AB, he needed to be able to stay back and try to poke that second strike into RF. He's still learning, and he's already further along than, say, Dayan Viciedo EVER got in the MLB, so I'm not being a debbie downer. Just an example of the stuff I think we should be "rooting for" and/or "concerned about" aside from draft position.

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 09:15 AM) Engel's catch was amazing. I'm glad I was able to see it as it happened. As soon as McCann his the ball, I said to my wife, "That's gone." We both said something along the lines of "holy s***" when Engel caught it. Even my daughter, who was not really watching the game, said, "He caught that!?" I don't know if his bat will come around, but with his defense and speed he wouldn't need a ton of offense to be a valuable piece. I said it in the game thread, but his route to the ball was almost as perfect as his technique to get to the ball once he got to the fence. He looked like he was actually fairly shallow and in slightly into left center when that ball was hit. His route to the ball was straight as an arrow to the spot where the ball was hit. I really hope that Engel can hit at all, because he is a near GG level CF.

Cowboy Joe West
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 08:09 AM) I don't think he did anything to warrant the suspension. Of course I didn't think Beltre should have been ejected for moving the on deck thing. People need to relax and laugh about some things. I don't know why everything is taken so seriously and offensively. There are plenty of things to take that way, but the littlest things now are made such a big deal of. Because that is what Joe West does. He ejects people and puts on a show.
