  2. QUOTE (shipps @ Aug 29, 2016 -> 03:47 PM) HBO vs. Showtime would be interesting. Dexter.... The first couple of seasons of Dexter were pretty good, then it fell apart, and the ending might have been the worst for a series, ever.
  3. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 29, 2016 -> 02:07 PM) Per this board, Trayce is useless...4th outfielder. What, pray tell, is your objection to only trading at a steep discount? Would would you suggest paying for him? Top dollar? Top 100 prospects? Go back and look at threads from 2 years ago...you'll see plenty of suggestions of Q plus for him. .706 OPS this year. I did not realize how far he fell during the course of the season. His defensive numbers have been awful. They are negative across the board. Even his offensive numbers fell off pretty hard. http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playe...amp;position=OF
  4. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 29, 2016 -> 10:28 AM) I'm finally watching Oz, I like it a lot so far but not as good as The Wire or Sopranos. GOT still takes the cake for me, the complexity of the amount of characters/setting puts it over Sopranos for me. I really loved Boardwalk more than Sopranos until the last season. They skipped so much good material, and so much compelling story telling to get to an ending that they pretty much wasted the first few seasons of quality. With as few episodes as they are going to make of GOT, I am afraid they are going to do the same thing to it. There is so much great story left to tell, and now they are going to try to cram it all in to a really short period of time. I really hope they don't f*** this up.
  5. QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Aug 29, 2016 -> 11:53 AM) If Rodon keeps pitching like this, along with Sale and Q, it's sure tempting to not shake things up for next year (besides hopefully adding a bat or two). Heck, if August Rodon and Abreu stick around, we could even contend.... If Rodon keeps going like this, and then we get something back from a guy like Miguel Gonzalez, or even Fulmer, I think it makes it easier to move Sale/Q. The Sox will feel like they have the depth to move a guy like that and get all of the offense they can trade for.
  6. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 29, 2016 -> 11:56 AM) Well, to continue on, I think the last thread ended on everyone agreeing that my take on the salary cap was the best and then I was appointed by Kyyle as best poster. Being a better poster than Kyyle isn't much of an achievement.
  7. At this point the final record isn't as important to me as how certain players finish the season. We have a decent amount of guys who are still proving themselves. If we get a good finish by guys like Avi, Tim Anderson, Saladino, Coats, etc, plus the guys coming out of the pen after Jones and Robertson, I will be happy. At this point the record is secondary.
  8. It is Soprano's and everything else, though I will say Game of Thrones could beat it. I think their story line is way better, but we have to wait and see how the series finishes.
  9. Rodon seems like he is finally finding the balance between how hard to work and when to dig deep for that extra heat. I am really happy to see him getting better as the season wears on.
  10. So really, Fulmer probably does need to be here. Hopefully he gets some starts in September.
  11. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 28, 2016 -> 02:37 PM) Isn't it opposite league first? No. Worst team in the same league first, to the best team in the same league. Then it switches over to the worst team in the opposite league.
  12. With the win tonight, Avi and Saladino push their OPS over .700, Abreu is back up to almost .800 at .796.

  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 27, 2016 -> 05:18 PM) 4 of his blown saves he gave up 0 earned runs. 3 of those 0 runs. One he gave up 1 unearthed. 3 others he gave up 1 run. Hard to expect a 0.00 ERA. Just my opinion This is exactly why the save stat is the worst possible stat to judge a set up man by. The vast majority of the time the closer comes in with a clean slate. If Nate Jones comes into a game with the bases loaded and nobody out, gives up a sac fly, and two straight strike outs, he gets a blown save... not the guy whose run scored, even though Nate Jones had a perfect inning. The blown save is just a stupid stat as it relates to anyone but a closer.

  21. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 11:26 PM) They need new arms. That's the only reason Sale was still in there. You bring in a relievers who gives up some runs then its stupid Robin . Sale is the asset here not those pieces of meat in the BP .Sox aren't going anywhere let the pen blow out therir arms not Sale.Robin is in a no win situation. They are working the new crop into shape after the injuries. It is still a work in progress though. Sale going 120 pitches really isn't that big of a deal every once in a while.
  22. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 10:05 PM) 120 pitches obviously isn't something they're going to allow him to do every time. But every once in a while when the stress innings are low, it shouldn't be a big deal. And this bullpen needs some nights off.
  23. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 05:44 PM) It's just weird to me seeing Saladino higher than Abreu. What does that even mean ? Abreu couldn't possibly be costing the Sox more with his glove than he contributes with his bat. Even Coats in his very limited playing time gets a .2 > I know 1st base isn't a position that can generate a lot of defensive WAR but even in a down hitting year which is improving rapidly Abreu still generates more run production than Eaton though he may not be more valuable to the team. I think b/f WAR overvalues walks and defense I am a huge believer that the Sox need more OBP guys and was a huge proponent of getting better defensive players but when Avila gets a .7 and Abreu just a .4 something is amiss somewhere. A guy like Heyward gets a huge contract and one bad offensive year makes it look like a joke he ever got that kind of contract. It really shows what the weaknesses of the WAR stat are.
  24. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 10:31 PM) Okay. I'm just wondering why this is directed toward me. You said we whiffed on this deal. Dioner Navarro has been awful this year. The fact that we traded him for more than cash is a win.
  25. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 06:28 PM) Again, and I don't know why this is so hard to understand, but the sweetheart lease deal insulates ownership from poor attendance. You combine those terms with a TV deal that is only $3M away from being in the top ten of baseball, and all of the other revenue streams, and this ball club is more than equipped to be competitive. Except they aren't that high in total revenue.
