  1. It is still lazy journalism. The part about asking Cubs staff, White Sox related questions is a side bar to the main point that each team should be treated as its own entity when no cross over exists. Chris Sale should not have to answer questions about Jake Arrieta when Chris Sale is the one who has done something that no one else in baseball has done since 2008.
  2. QUOTE (bmags @ May 20, 2016 -> 04:08 PM) Totally agree. Two years ago as Abreu was tearing up the league his first year, he basically could not be acknowledged by our media without including Anthony Rizzo in the discussion. What bothers me is Jake Arrieta is allowed to exist as great without being compared to Sale. but Sale apparently must be only understood in how he rates to a cubs pitcher. I have yet to see Joe Maddon asked about the White Sox, nor have I seen Jake Arrieta asked about Chris Sale. Even if this were going on, it would legitimize this a little bit more in my eyes.
  3. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 20, 2016 -> 04:10 PM) This actually bothered me last night as well. I'm not someone that harps on the media too much especially the whole "THE MEDIA LOVES THE CUBS SO MUCH" group but there was just no reason to ask Sale some of these questions last night. Unfortunately someone on my twitter timeline retweeted a Levine quote, so I checked out his account and everything from his Sox post game wrap up was the Sale-Arrieta stuff and how the Sale vs. Cubs game which is 2 months away is going to be fantastic. Just dumb. I don't mind Cubs fans being excited, and there being lots of stories about the Cubs. I mind when stories about the White Sox get turned into stories about the Cubs when the Cubs don't matter at all.
  4. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 20, 2016 -> 04:03 PM) It's not lazy journalism at all. They are doing their job, they are appealing to their audience. This is a White Sox message board, yet look how many posts relate to the Cubs. Like it or not, the "rivalry " still is a big part of Chicago baseball and a big part of White Sox baseball. Fans wear Cubs Suck shirts to every game no matter the opponent. Some fans care more if the Cubs lost than if the Indians or Royals did. You can't expect the media to change until the fans do. It is lazy journalism, because the same members of the media will be the first to mock Sox fans for caring more about the Cubs than their own team after doing the same thing by asking these irrelevant questions.
  5. Someone mentioned 60 days in earlier in this thread. I picked it up and watched it. It sounded like it could be interesting when it started, but I ended up pretty disappointed in it. The whole idea was supposed to be the illegal stuff that happens in the jail, and they pretty much ignored that after the first week, and until the people started getting out of the jail. It turned into a typical reality drama type of show. Next week where everyone confronts each other sounds like it will be the worst of all.
  6. QUOTE (Dunt @ May 20, 2016 -> 03:57 PM) Why dont these same people ask Jake Arrieta about Chris Sale? I'd like to see how Jake would fare in the AL....oh wait, we did? Also a great point. Thank you.
  7. QUOTE (shipps @ May 20, 2016 -> 03:48 PM) I totally hear ya but to be fair they may just be feeding the appetite for that discussion. I hate that its the case but you hear people comparing the two at work, grocery store, barbershop etc. so the media is going to naturally feed into that. Sure. But they aren't being paid to cover the White Sox. The people whose job it is to cover this team, should be covering this team. Ask him about Eddie Cicotte. Ask him about Brandon Webb who was the last person to achieve this. Why ask him about Jake Arrieta? He isn't 9-0 in 9 starts. He isn't on a team involved in the White Sox playoff pursuit. It is lazy.
  8. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 20, 2016 -> 03:47 PM) Easily the most talented, yes. I just dislike when people forget the past. To be fair, a guy like Ed Walsh is a Hall of Famer. That is one hell of a standard, and Chris Sale isn't there yet.
  9. As a White Sox fan I would like to request a media moratorium on one specific thing. Can we quit asking White Sox players questions about the Cubs. For example, last night in the midst of the post game interviews where Chris Sale became the first White Sox pitcher to go 9-0 in his first 9 starts since Eddie Cicotte in 1919, someone asked him about Jake Arrieta. Why? Why not ask him about Chris Sale? Or someone in the American League? It is lazy journalism on behalf of the sports journalists in Chicago for their White Sox related questioning to keep coming back to the Cubs. Stop it. It is insulting and irrelevant. Especially when the White Sox have nothing to do with the Cubs. They aren't in the same division or league, and they aren't playing each other. It is my direct challenge to the sports writers and broadcasters of Chicago to step up their game and actually come up with some relevant questions for Chicago White Sox staff and players.
  10. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ May 20, 2016 -> 03:13 PM) Yeah I could see that. He may be officially added to the 40 man after the game on August 31 to qualify for the playoff roster. If he stays pretty hot, AND we get a chance to call him up a week or two early with a DL spot to be able to give us flexibility with towards a potential playoff roster, it could actually make sense.
  11. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 20, 2016 -> 11:18 AM) Yes it has. Nobody is changing minds Especially since both of them bring special and good things to the booth. While I love Hawk, Jason is going on me, even if he isn't Hawk. I would honestly love to hear him do a couple of games with Hawk, and hear them in the same booth.
  12. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ May 20, 2016 -> 10:50 AM) Lol - "the internet truly is a wonderful place", indeed! Here we have the White Sox who have made one and very brief postseason appearance in the last decade, are on the heels of three straight brutal seasons, and who have now been in first place for nearly a third of the season, and you say there's nothing for a White Sox announcer to get excited about. What a point of view. This is comedy cold coming from the guy who patented the 5 in 35 meme.
  13. Watching Chris Sale reminds me so much of the time that Jack McDowell was here. The firey intensity. The tall, long and skinny frame. The quick move to the majors, and the high peak. Hopefully Chris keeps his health, especially with this move to pitching with a little more fine brush, and a little less spray paint.
  14. Abreu hasn't exactly been the king of productive ABs lately. I wonder if this is Robin trying to change his. Ideally, Melky came here to be the #2 hitter, I would have tried him there next.
  15. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 20, 2016 -> 12:19 PM) I imagine it's the politcal candidate version of "doesn't matter had sex!". "Doesn't matter got nominated!" is the theme for many Trump (and Bernie) supporters Obama made this flipflop really easily, and no one cared.
  16. September barring a short term injury.
  17. Defensive positioning has just been so good this year.
  18. That really was a good pitch by sale. It was at the knees an a couple of inches off of the plate.
  19. Lawrie gets a needed day off. He has looked like he has been pressing for about a week now.
  20. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 19, 2016 -> 03:33 PM) This thread isn't about Jake Peavy. Please resist from continuing to derail threads. To tie this idea in a bow and put it to bed, if Tim Anderson has anywhere near the career that Jake Peavy had, that would be a huge win for the White sox and their player development people. I would be thrilled to death if it happens.
  21. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 19, 2016 -> 03:06 PM) caulfield, every trade proposal doesnt have to end with "well you have to trade Fulmer or Adams" Just because they are some of the better players in the farm system does not mean that they are the only players that will be traded. Shields should not cost either of those two, he has a large contract, he is on a bad team, and he is an older player whose skills have declined somewhat and arent likely to get better If we are willing to take on that contract, Shields will be essentially free, considering he has $44 million left after this year on his deal, if he doesn't opt out (which I can't see hapening). If we were to trade for him at the half way point of the season, he would still be owed $10.5 million, which is almost all of the LaRoche savings. Personally that is a huge dollar addition, and I can't see it happening.
