2007 Post ASB White Sox Catch-All Thread
I think Brian is just trying to get traded at this point. He has zero future here. Centerfield is wide open for 2008, and guys like Jerry Owens have completely pased him on the depth chart.

Dye signs extension
2008 is a full no trade, and 2009 is to six selected teams according to today's Trib.

Draft signings
QUOTE(SoxAce @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 02:03 PM) 22 out of the first 24 picks signed... not bad at all. And we took a few risks this year. Hopefully some of these guys will turn out.

Tribe fans on the ledge
Indians fans are the worse bandwagon fans in all of baseball. I have never seen a stadium going from empty to full to empty to full so fast.

Official Hate for the Milwaukee Brewers Thread
The Brewers haven't got a win out of their 1-2-3 starters in 48 games. It just blows my mind that they are still as close as they are to first place.

Jermaine Dye or Aaron Rowand?
QUOTE(BearSox @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 08:39 PM) the thing is... Crede did just have Back surgery! I don't care what Boras says, he could be a shell of his former self. And it would be a big risk to spend 4 million on him not knowing if he will even be able to play. The Sox aren't stupid. They aren't going to just take his word for it... ask Magglio.

Will Paul Konerko pass Frank Thomas's Sox HR record?
So I was looking at the numbers. Before the start of tonights game, Pauly has 261 homers with the Sox, while Frank Thomas had 448. Konerko still as the rest of this year, plus 4 more years on his contract. He currently trails by 187 homers, meaning if he can get to 30 or so this year, he would need to average 45 a year over the next 4 years to tie Frank, or average a little less, but get another contract extention to pass him. So what are the chances that it happens?

Sox rotation in September
QUOTE(BearSox @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 08:34 PM) Well, it would be kinda pointless not to call him up as charlotte's season will be over come september anyway. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised to see Phillips and even Reynoso get called up. Either additioning some of them for trades or possibly for the bullpen/rotation next season. The point is also having enough innings to go around so that you can get a reading on some guys for 2008. If you call up too many guys, they won't get used often enough to see how they play in a major league situation.

Jermaine Dye or Aaron Rowand?
QUOTE(BearSox @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 08:32 PM) this weird fascination people have that Fields is going to play LF and Crede be brought back to play 3B is driving me insane. It's just that not one thing has happened to lead me to believe the org. has any intention of bringing back Crede and moving Fields to LF. They know what they get in Crede if he is healthy. They also love his defense. Plus he would be cheaper than trying to find someone else to replicate those number in the OF if Fields were to stay at 3B and Crede left.

Dye signs extension
Nice interviews with both JD and Kenny before the game tonight. JD really wanted to be here and didn't care about searching out more money or more years. The other interesting thing is that there is a third year on the deal which is a dual option.

Films Thread
I saw Zodiac the other day and really enjoyed the movie. They did a good job for an occourence that didn't have a real ending in life.

Dye signs extension
QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 08:16 PM) If Garland AND Contreras are traded, we better get back a young proven major league arm. Or a VERY HIGH upside, less than a year away major league arm. Like a Jason Hirsh. Wasn't Hirsch one of the pitchers in the near Garland/Houston deal?

Jermaine Dye or Aaron Rowand?
Well after today, maybe it will be both? I could handle a Dye-Rowand-Fields OF next year.

Sox rotation in September
QUOTE(BearSox @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 08:14 PM) don't forget about Haeger. We might, but I don't know if they will call up that many pitchers. We have seen enough of Haegar this year to know starting isn't going to be his thing.

UH OH BMAC
Damn. I am still rooting for Brandon to do well. This just sucks. Hopefully he can bounce back in 08.

Selig will not discipline Giambi
So how long until this turns into a racial thing with Selig taking no action against the white boys, but shunning Barry Bonds?
-
Tim Raines
Raines should be a first ballot HOFer. He was just incredible for about a 10 year stretch, and the 800 plus steals are the big stat that everyone can point to, like they would 300 wins or 500 homers.

Bobby Jenks...
Damn it, when is Bobby going to get his chance? Oh yeah, we actually have to be winning late in a game...

Why is Steve Stone taking place of DJ right now
QUOTE(max power @ Aug 14, 2007 -> 09:56 PM) Listening to this game- I miss stone. Yeah, there is just zero chemistry between Hawk and DJ, dispite the fact I like both of them individually.

More tragedy in Utah
It could be worse, I just saw about the collapse in China where almost 200 people died.

Sox rotation in September
Heath Phillips has zero chance of being a Sept call up this year. He has many guys who are ahead of him. I think we see Massett, Sisco, and Egbert up here, and that is about it. I do not think we will see Gio, because they will not put him on the major league roster before they have to do so.

Dye signs extension
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 07:59 PM) What does Jerry do well outside of 'run fast'? I know he's been amazing since being recalled in early July . . . 39 G | 156 AB | 19 R | 49 H | 2 2B | 1 3B | 1 HR | 7 RBI | 8 BB | 27 K | 14SB/3CS | .269/.313/.314/.627 and even better since July 19th (beginning of the BOS series) . . . 25 G | 106 AB | 8 R | 26 H | 2 2B | 1 3B | 1 HR | 4 RBI | 4 BB | 19 K | 9SB/0CS | .245/.279/.311/.590 but can't this team do better than a dirt poor, barely breathing (possibly dead) man's Nook Logan in the leadoff spot next year? It's pretty obvious the organization wants to go for it again in 2008. With a group of aging (but still quite good) veterans leading the way, this team is going to need a productive leadoff hitter if they want to win anything. I can't see Jerry Owens posting anything better than a .260/.295/.315/.610 (this is on the optimistic side) line in 500+ ABs next year and that's not going to get it done. I just don't think he's all that talented. The problem is that a good leadoff man/CF costs $10 million on the open market. With our payroll we need at least couple guys in the starting line up earning minimum wage. Owens and Fields seem to be the most servicable guys at positions that are open for competition right now.

Interesting Quote on Dye
QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 15, 2007 -> 02:38 PM) Well.. if they were born AFTER the ARod fiasco I would not expect them to be posting here quite yet. ...Unless her name is Madison.. Hey Madison at 21.5 months could out post some of the crap that shows up here, and that's just from me!
