  5. QUOTE(Lefty Of Love @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 09:17 AM) Inge always plays well against us too. There's a reason this guy is in the big leagues. The way Mariotti tells it, he's got no right to even think about hitting two home runs. What an asshole sports writer Mariotti is to demean a pro athlete like that. Maybe he's jealous. What a dick. I don't know what Kotex-boy would be jealous of... He has the best job in the world. He gets to make up stories and connections out of nothing.
  6. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 08:33 AM) Thanks for posting that. I've seen that list for years and always wondered about some of the underlying "facts". ANYTIME I see something like that, Snopes is the first place I go to. They are the be all, end all for urban legends. And actually if you click the community link at the top of the page, they have a nice message board, with really really smart people.
  7. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 08:18 AM) Yes it is. But here is the fundamental difference. With the swifties there were facts that could be checked, they basically discredited the entire Purple Heart process, and all that jazz. With this woman, it's her opinion about ending the war. Since there is no underlying facts to challenge, the pro war groups are attacking her personally as a media whore and just in it for the money. She just doesn't seem that savvy. I can't believe she is using Moore et. al. They are masters of self promotion, she's a rank amateur. It is my belief that she just wants to preserve the memory of her son, has a sincere desire to see the war end quickly so more moms aren't watching their children be lowered into the ground. Just like the swifties, there are well heeled individuals that see a story that the public can rally around and they are using that story to advance their beliefs. Another big difference in my mind. The Swifties were out to elect a President, what is she out to do? Help end a war sooner? Which should receive greater scrutiny? Just because there aren't facts to be checked, doesn't mean that her message gets off scott-free, without investigating whose paying her to talk. If you are getting funding from someone you are a lot more likely to be saying what you are told to say. Plus she HAS stated a LOT of opinions about Bush and the war, a lot more has been said than just bringing the boys home. She had made a ton of accusations and statements about the President and his administration. Actually her aim is the exact same as the swifties in one respect, they want to make sure that someone DOESN'T get elected. They were trying to take down John Kerry, Sheehan and company are trying to take down George Bush, and by that, whoever is going to run for election to succeed Bush.
  8. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Sep 26, 2005 -> 06:17 PM) Have a history teacher explain this----- if they can. Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846. John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946. Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860. John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960. Both were particularly concerned with civil rights. Both wives lost their children while living in the White House. Both Presidents were shot on a Friday. Both Presidents were shot in the head. Now it gets really weird. Lincoln 's secretary was named Kennedy. Kennedy's Secretary was named Lincoln. Both were assassinated by Southerners. Both were succeeded by Southerners named Johnson. Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808. Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908. John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln, was born in 1839. Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was born in 1939. Both assassins were known by their three names. Both names are composed of fifteen letters. Now hang on to your seat. Lincoln was shot at the theater named 'Ford.' Kennedy was shot in a car called ' Lincoln' made by 'Ford.' Lincoln was shot in a theater and his assassin ran and hid in a warehouse. Kennedy was shot from a warehouse and his assassin ran and hid in a theater. Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials. And here's the kicker... A week before Lincoln was shot, he was in Monroe, Maryland A week before Kennedy was shot, he was with Marilyn Monroe. Snopes is all over that... http://www.snopes.com/history/american/linckenn.htm
  9. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 26, 2005 -> 10:56 PM) I agree 100% I have a hard time imagining her manipulating Moore and the rest of that set. Down here in Texas I didn't hear anything negative about the swifties. They were on every talk show, newspaper articles, and they played the commercials a few times. They had a story and the millionaire boys club lined up with tens of millions to tell their tale. I don't recall them being called media whore. Sheehan isn't maniupluting anyone. She is being used by Moore, Soros, Kerry, and company...
  10. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 26, 2005 -> 10:29 PM) That's what I'm saying. Not everyone could manage this situation. All of a sudden she is surrounded by famous people who seemingly care about her, her son, and her message. Imagine the machine in place to use someone like this? Look how many people lined up to have the Swifties on their shows? They were everywhere. Yet some seem to think she is manipulating the situation for her profit, not the other way around. I don't think you can take the average person, put them into this giant pr machine, and have them handle the situation, I think she is being handled. I don't think she took over the Moore website, I think they took her over. And that was instantly used by the media to discredit the message that the Swifties were giving. They published the names of every rich rebublician who was funding them in the NYT. How come the same papers aren't mentioning that her primary funding is now coming from George Soros and Moveon.org? Isn't her funding just as relevant too?
  11. You guys actually going to broadcast a winner for once lately????
  12. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Sep 26, 2005 -> 04:32 PM) I don't know, I mean, I think the website you posted is kind of decptive. Places like Oswego have pretty variable pay rates--but the most senior teachers (looked up my old ones) are making around 100,000. But the average rate is dragged waaaaaaaay down by the HUGE amount of new teachers because the area is growing and adding schools so rapidly. So, I don't know if averages are the best option because it doesn't tell the whole story. And school administrators, I agree way overpaid. Give that money to the poor fools in the trenches. Especially when you get administrators like in Michigan City, who say things like they wouldn't send their own kids to our school system (they go to a rich all white school system 50 miles away), and have a hiring manager who gets suspended for 10 days because she can't handle the task of hiring an athletic director... Our school administration is worthless, and whatever they make it is too much.
  13. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 01:12 AM) Of all the people you picked for an article on this you pick one by Paul Krugman. Holy s***. Speaking of exaggerators and flat out liars... I don't know how this guy keeps his job.
  14. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 26, 2005 -> 12:03 PM) Man, thanks for telling us now, Mr. Chairman...only 4 years after you endorsed the tax cuts which created over 1/2 of the current hole in our budget deficit. CNN Actually if you sited his full comments from that time, Greenspan was clear, and has always been clear, that the US economy shouldn't be deficit spending a huge percentage of the GDP yearly. He felt that the tax cuts were a needed stimulous coming out of the Clinton recession, which had been greatly magnified by the September 11th attacks, and the spending cuts that went with that. He has ALWAYS been for smaller deficits, and even stated in his support of tax cuts that they should NOT be permanent, and should only run as an economic stimulous was needed for recovery.
  15. Well we all knew that the Indians series would kill this site, and it just about did. During that period of time, we had the 1st and 3rd biggest posting days in the sites history. -The Sept 20th game set the new all time record of 2834 posts in one day (the Sox 7-6 victory), to go along with 711,000 hits. (good for the 2nd busiest day ever, would have been way higher if the site hadn't crashed many times) -The 9-19 series opener produced 2460 posts, 3rd most ever in one day. -The two day total was an amazing 5294 posts, also by far a record. -The Indians series produced 7465 posts (the 9-21 had 2171 posts), also another record. -If you add the first Twins game, which produced 2236 posts made a 4 day posting total of 9701 posts, which is actually more than Soxtalk had ever had for any 6 day posting period, let alone 4 days. I take it you all were excited for a real series with playoff implications? It will be really interesting to see if/when we make it to the playoffs, and see how many new site records we can actually set, with the server protection mode in place. to the busiest White Sox message board in exsistance
  16. Thanks for the info guys. I am not looking for anything expensive, but I don't want to get ripped off at the sametime. Basically I want to try to find something cool to get signed and added to my collection.

All of yours are individual stats. 1549 posted all teamstats.
  19. The reports of dead bodies in the Superdome seem to have been greatly exagerated. According to NOLA, only 6-10 bodies were every found in there, compared to the "hundreds" that had been rumored. http://www.nola.com/newslogs/tporleans/ind..._26.html#082732

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 26, 2005 -> 12:55 PM) Which is pure BS, because it's not the inventory levels of crude that's down. It's the refined product. Thanks, GWB, for nothing. SPR actually does include more than just crude. They have stocks of everything from natural gas, to heating oil, to gasoline.
  21. QUOTE(DePloderer @ Sep 26, 2005 -> 01:19 PM) Cricket; a means to beat up on the Aussies! I guess compared to the hundreds of years of beating up on the French, that is a little more of a challenge...
  22. Its just like anything on here... The negative people find an excuse to discount Buehrle's prefomance, and the positive ones grasp to anything.
