  1. QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 02:36 PM) So... he's not REALLY gone then, contrary to the thread's title. I edited the thread title.
  2. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 01:34 PM) To me Magglio is just the RF for the Detroit Tigers. If I were at the game tonight, I wouldn't even acknowledge him. Look where we are at without him. Everytime Jermaine Dye steps up to the plate, I think, Magglio who? Granted, he had some great moments as a White Sox and will be remembered as one of the better hitters. But it was his choice to leave and his choice to open his mouth. I hope he enjoys 4th place this year. With that.... I hope El Duque shuts him down everytime tonight. BTW, the last 4 game sweep by the Sox was against the Yankees in 2000. Hopefully, they'll get the same reception tonight as they did after that road trip. Unless storms blow up, the Sox are going to have practically a full house, and I have no doubt the place will go up for grabs when Thunderstruck kicks in. I have a feeling the start of tonights game will be one of those special moments we talk about for years to come.
  3. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 01:09 PM) Im curious if would care at all about them if there wasnt oil involved. My guess is no. Have we invaded any countries in Africa lately? Have we stopped genocide in countries that have huge oil reserves to go along with huge diamond mines? The whole oil thing makes a great tagline on the 6pm news, in reality, there are a lot of other places in the world we could have invaded if it were purely on a capital good basis.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 01:10 PM) People keep saying that he's struggling because every time he racks up another productive out and moves Pods over, his average goes down. Btw, did you guys see that shot he hit yesterday? WOW. He absolutely tattooed that ball. The one that Sizemore caught in RCF, or the HR? He hit the ball HARD both times.
  5. The only thing I see happening soon is this thread being gone...
  6. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 12:49 PM) I've been saying that the whole time. And I am sooooooooo with you all. The price is too high, and we are not desperate.
  7. Arrested Development has to get a mention.
  8. No need to litter PHT with this craptacular thread. Off to the trade forum you go
  9. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 12:32 PM) Remember the 1994 team everyone thought would win the World Series? If the White Sox went 6-17 their next 23 games they would have the same record as that team. It puts things into perspective as to how unbelievable they have played this year. Good post. Another way to say it, the best record in franchise history through 90 games. This is the best White Sox team at this point in the season EVER. Think about that...
  10. QUOTE(Princess Dye @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 12:29 PM) thread title changed? tyrant. when i'm proved right, i'll demand 8 apologies. I hope you are joking for your sake.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 12:03 PM) Does a bear s*** in the woods? If a tree falls in the woods and no one is there to hear it, does it make a noise?
  12. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 11:52 AM) If you don't want Hawkins cause he sucked as a Cub, you are totally neglecting the reason for his suckage. The Cubs used him as a closer. He cannot close ballgames. But IIRC, on the rare occasion that the Cubs used him correctly, he has some success in the middle innings and set-up role. Remember, he sucked as a closer in Minnesota too. Once Everyday Eddie emerged as a quality closer, they moved LaTroy to setup man and he flourished. For simply swapping him with Shingo, I have little doubt that it would be an upgrade. Especially when you consider one of the anchors of our pen is himself a horrificially failed closer in Cliff Politte.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 11:30 AM) Not the case for all as money doesn't grow on tree's... Talk about missing the forest for the trees...

  15. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 11:24 AM) One of the other threads linked an ESPN article saying it's Julio, Bigbie (sp?) and Penn, so that would definitely mean a Sox offer of Contreras and Marte would have to include McCarthy, but IMO that is WAY too much for Burnett, even if they sign him to an extension (the Orioles would be taking Lowell too) I don't know what to think of Lowell. Is he having a Konerko-esque fluke bad season, or is something seriously wrong with him and he is not going to be what he was?
  16. QUOTE(Jimenez4MVP @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 11:23 AM) Why? Hawkins is real good when hes not in the closers role And we could use a guy with that kind of arm. Give Coop sometime with him and he will be back to his days with the Twins.
  17. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 11:18 AM) Think with walk-up we'll sell out the next seven games? I don't know about complete sell outs, but there is no reason they can't average over 35k a night with the huge presales they have had for these games. 250,000 for the 7 games would be a nice number, and really give us a big bounce towards averaging 30k on the season.
  18. I hope the Orioles get Burnett, because the package we are talking about is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY overpaying for a mediocre pitcher.
  19. QUOTE(rangercal @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 11:04 AM) Thats what us sox fans do best I get over defensive with Frank at times. Sorry about that. Yeah why aren't we talking about Frank's .226 average, or that he can't hit a fastball anymore? [runs and hides to admire the blaze]
  20. "Charlie" was excellent. No doubt in my mind it was way better than the original
  21. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 09:55 AM) Why does this question keep getting asked? There is no logical reason to think Gload could play 3B and one very logical reason to know that is not an option. Yet, from time to time, somebody will float this "idea". I ended up letting Ross Gload catch the 9th inning of a game in MVP.
  22. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 10:06 AM) Eh.. pay no attention to the old crabby fart. Hey leave me out of this!
  23. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 09:39 AM) "Philadelphia Phillies Updated:07/18/2005 Just in case the Phillies hold a fire sale before the trade deadline, the Red Sox have been scouting closer Billy Wagner, while Texas has started monitoring pitcher Vicente Padilla, according to the Bucks County (PA) Courier-Times. The newspaper said 1B Jim Thome would probably drop his no-trade clause only for a few teams, perhaps the Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, St. Louis Cardinals and Cleveland Indians." Per Cbs.sportsline.com Out of those 4 teams, only Cleveland would need a 1B...Stupid reporters suck. We might need one after this year, or they could work out a deal to send Konerko to Philly as a part of the trade.
  24. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 09:31 AM) ...go get him SS. Meh, this is one of those issues that isn't even worth it. People can take what they want to take from the Maggs era. I am taking 61-29 from it. And I am laughing at all of the lies and deceit that we got dealt for making Ordonez a really rich man, and even after being willing to give him a huge contract dispite his knee problem we are still the "enemy", that's fine. 5-7 years of being a Tiger just goes to show that you reap what you sow.
