  1. For the above mentioned reasons I edited the post out. ESPN can come after Soxtalk for that stuff, as they hold us responsible for our content, so I took it off. If someone wants to summarize that is cool, or if you guys want to contact each other to talk about it, that is up to you. Thanks guys.
  2. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 09:58 PM) I'm looking to trade 2 Sunday August 21st upper deck tix (Box 527, row 21, seats 20-21) for similar seats for Friday or Saturday of that Series. . . PM if you want to trade. Thanks! Get tickets for the Saturday game, we are all going to tailgate, and would love to meet you!!!

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 08:54 AM) Tex, any chance Houston will get hit? Infantestimle at best. The only real chance they have is if the storm takes a northern turn after landfall, and it gets sideswiped by the outer bands. Most like it is going to blow through Mexico and reemerge into the Pacific and get renamed as a Typhoon.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 08:43 AM) Tex.. turn it upsidedown Or try to bungee it to a tree or an immovable object. If it is just sitting there, the wind will catch it and it will become a projectile.
  5. I hate the wave, end of story.
  6. That is a Fox exclusive time slot. Unless Fox picks up the game and moves it to noon, I don't think they CAN do anything about it.
  7. Put away the tin foil hats fellows. Kenny Williams said he isn't doing anything, because there is nothing out there worth doing. Of course he isn't going to say that there is a big deal working, but he also wouldn't flat out deny it if it were actually happening. And everyone wants to point to the AJ thing, but at the time, we were going to get AJ. It took major campaigning by Hawk to open that door, and then it still took a while for Kenny to investigate AJ to his satisifaction before he would act on it. The deals that are on the table now are stupid. If there was a deal that would improve this team, KW would do it, and money isn't an object right now. But even with saying that, just because you have money in your pocket doesn't mean you go out and spend it stupidly. These guys also don't want this to be a one year thing, and trading away guys like McCarthy, Marte and Anderson for a middle of the road pitcher, that is not doing the future teams justice. There is a balance there. Our best hope is one of these teams that is holding onto desparation right now, finds a horrific two week slump and decides to meltdown at the last minute and we slip in the backdoor to pick up some guys (ala the white flag trade of 97 in reverse). Other than that this is the worst deadline trade market I have ever seen. I have never seen the teams looking to add players having to pay so much. In a wierd way it was a great year to have a bad first half, because veteran players are trading as such a premium right now.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 05:20 PM) I'm now 50-50 of getting a direct hit tomorrow night I'm the sliver of green in Texas, that's green of a different meaning Now that's irony
  9. HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHEAT!!!!!
  10. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 03:18 PM) I want to give KW big props for making a difficult move. Shingo is a nice guy, but we are trying to do something real special this year. Last year we hung on to Mike Jackson because of him getting some record. He was a nice guy also. On the plus side, who thinks that this will scare a certain Vizcaino into pitching a bit better. Your job is not safe. Pitch well or be left behind. You might want to check up on things, but Vizcaino has been pitching better. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/splits?statsId=6291 April 7.43 era .309 baa May 5.23 era .293 baa June 2.25 era .283 baa July 1.17 era .250 baa Season 4.36 era .283 baa He hasn't been great, basically average or a little better, but he definately doesn't need to be cut with the numbers he has been putting up over the last few months.

Damn I read the thread title and was hoping this meant there was a new Porkchop article out... :crying"
  12. We are not going to go with 2 rookies and a 2nd year pitcher out of the pen down the stretch. It ain't gonna happen.
  13. QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 03:05 PM) The Sox don't need an outfielder. They need a backup 1B and a LH bat. Podsednik, Rowand, Dye, Everett, Willie and Ozuna all play OF. That's not how Kenny Williams and Ozzie Guillen feel. Ross Gload would start at 1B maybe once every two weeks to once a month. Like them or not, Timo and/or Willie play more positions, have more speed, and are more usable right now than a one dimensional player who can only play one position, which just happens to be where a guy who is going to play everyday plays at. Gload can't run, can't throw, and only plays 1B. Yeah he would be a nice pinchhitter, but why would you keep a guy on your bench who might get 2-3 ABs a week? He would be the positional equivilent of Shingo.
  14. QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 03:00 PM) So a healthy Gload is still down in Charlotte and Timo is still on the ML roster... Gload isn't healthy. He can't play the OF because he still can't throw.
  15. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 02:48 PM) It's 2:45, just go down there, ask at the box office to see if any late tix were released. Or, try to get some outside. That is the best thing to do. There are always day of game releases that are available only at the ballpark.
  16. QUOTE(Yossarian @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 02:37 PM) I'm not worried about the Yankees this year. I am worried about another West Coast El Foldo. The Sox are 30-5 in their division (Wow!), 9-4 against the AL East and 12-6 in interleague play. Unfortunately they are only 10-14 against the AL West and have shown a tendency of folding up like an accordion when playing those teams, especially on the road. I'm most concerned about the Angels and the streaking A's. We just don't seem to do so hot against those teams. 10-14 against the west which is primarily the 2-7 against Oakland. They are 8-7 against the rest of the west.
  17. QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 02:36 PM) So... he's not REALLY gone then, contrary to the thread's title. I edited the thread title.
  18. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 01:34 PM) To me Magglio is just the RF for the Detroit Tigers. If I were at the game tonight, I wouldn't even acknowledge him. Look where we are at without him. Everytime Jermaine Dye steps up to the plate, I think, Magglio who? Granted, he had some great moments as a White Sox and will be remembered as one of the better hitters. But it was his choice to leave and his choice to open his mouth. I hope he enjoys 4th place this year. With that.... I hope El Duque shuts him down everytime tonight. BTW, the last 4 game sweep by the Sox was against the Yankees in 2000. Hopefully, they'll get the same reception tonight as they did after that road trip. Unless storms blow up, the Sox are going to have practically a full house, and I have no doubt the place will go up for grabs when Thunderstruck kicks in. I have a feeling the start of tonights game will be one of those special moments we talk about for years to come.
  19. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 01:09 PM) Im curious if would care at all about them if there wasnt oil involved. My guess is no. Have we invaded any countries in Africa lately? Have we stopped genocide in countries that have huge oil reserves to go along with huge diamond mines? The whole oil thing makes a great tagline on the 6pm news, in reality, there are a lot of other places in the world we could have invaded if it were purely on a capital good basis.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 01:10 PM) People keep saying that he's struggling because every time he racks up another productive out and moves Pods over, his average goes down. Btw, did you guys see that shot he hit yesterday? WOW. He absolutely tattooed that ball. The one that Sizemore caught in RCF, or the HR? He hit the ball HARD both times.
  21. The only thing I see happening soon is this thread being gone...
  22. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 12:49 PM) I've been saying that the whole time. And I am sooooooooo with you all. The price is too high, and we are not desperate.
  23. Arrested Development has to get a mention.
  24. No need to litter PHT with this craptacular thread. Off to the trade forum you go
  25. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 12:32 PM) Remember the 1994 team everyone thought would win the World Series? If the White Sox went 6-17 their next 23 games they would have the same record as that team. It puts things into perspective as to how unbelievable they have played this year. Good post. Another way to say it, the best record in franchise history through 90 games. This is the best White Sox team at this point in the season EVER. Think about that...
