  1. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 01:05 PM) I don't think Gload would really ruin any chemistry. He played with these guys in Spring Training and at the beginning of the year. It just doesn't make sense that they have Deadweight Willie on the bench. I haven't heard a bad word said about Gload ever. Right now he just doesn't fit into what the team needs, he is way to one dimensional with the shoulder injury.

  4. This is all good news. I wish I could be there more often... I'll have to make sure to remind my kid for years that this is all her fault as she grows up

Tex how far are you inland? You might get your wish...
  6. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 11:53 AM) If Thome was healthy I wonder if the Phils would be as willing to deal him. The guy has produced during his tenure in Philly and my guess is he will continue to produce. As long as his back is still alright (and this injury isn't related to it) I'd have to think some teams would take a flyer on him. He'd be an impact pick-up assuming he'd be healthy enough to play down the stretch. Still he won't fit on the Sox. Not this year at least. I'm not thinking of this year in terms of Thome. I am thinking of the next 3 years.
  7. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 11:50 AM) No, I like it fine, it just seriously slows down the PC when scrolling thru the posts, no other user avatar does that. Don't know why, but it definitely slows it down big time. Hey Jim, get off of Quickman's Tandy!
  8. Wow would Thome be an incredible pick up. The thing would be that we have payroll room because we would pick up 8.75 million just by not bringing back Konerko. At that point we are only looking at about $6 million extra a year. Plus that gives us some legit lefty thump in the middle of the line up.
  9. Tony G would be a perfect addition, too bad we probably won't deal with KC.
  10. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 10:13 AM) Gload can be used once a week to spell Konerko. In a late inning, he can pinch run for Konerko. He's not fast, but he's probably twice as fast as Konerko and can score from 2nd on a base hit. He can come in later as a defensive back-up because he's a great defender. We could also use a PH like Gload. Konerko isn't going to sit once a week. Probably closer to once a month.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 11:30 AM) LMFAO... I think you still have all that crap from 10 years ago that you stole from me while you were drunk off your ass... so give her back her silverware. Now you know that was CHIP!

I can't wait to get rid of my Cingular service. It is the worst service I have ever had. I get infinately more dropped calls, and no signal problems than I ever did when I had Nextel.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 11:25 AM) Considering the time before that when they were with us the Missus was making me Cosmo's and I don't remember the entire second half of the Superbowl... I can only imagine.. I told you we don't have your silverware NOW LEAVE ME ALONE!!!
  15. The last 3 points are all predicated on the assumption (while probably true) that everyone knew who Plame was, and everyone knew that Rove told these people about Plame. That is a big leap of faith until there is proof of who else knew that stuff.
  16. Something else that has leaked out, the NHL also has a tough new drug policy. First offense is a twenty game suspension or about 1/4 of the season, just like the NFL. Second offense is 60 games. http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=2108304
  17. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 10:01 AM) Dye, Rowand, Pods, Everett, Timo, and Harris/Ozuna (to an extent) can play the OF or have shown that they are passable out there. For the life of me, I cannot figure out why we need Gload to be able to play the OF. It makes me just think that somebody doens't like Ross. Why bring a guy up who can only play one position so he can play like once every two weeks? Konerko is going to play almost everyday, so needing him at 1B is a joke. All he can do is PH and play 1B. He can't run, he can't throw, and he can't play the OF. Just from a utilitarians point of view, Gload isn't nearly as helpful as some other guys. I have to laugh that everytime someone doesn't get called up, someone hates them. We need to get a tinfoil hat smilie.
  18. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 09:47 AM) C'mon, nobody is really surprised by this, are you? Somebody clearly doesn't like Gload. That, or he really keeps to himself and neither hurts nor adds to the chemistry. Perhaps they're going to trade Willie at some point soon? Those are the only reasons I can come up with. It was said months ago that Gload probably wouldn't be able to play the OF all year because of his shoulder problems. Ozzie has also said that he wants someone who can play the OF. And after watching Dye serve as a decent backup in limited action, it made sense that Gload really wasn't needed.
  19. Kevin Walker sure didn't miss a beat... In the left handed relief depth charts we have got to be looking at this... Arnie Munoz Kevin Walker Jim Bullard
  20. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 07:47 AM) If there's one player I'm sure wasn't on the roids, it's Mike Lowell. With his cancer history, I highly doubt he'd be willing to jeopardize his health by taking steroids. Then again the cause and effect could be backwards too. Roids don't exactly do too much for your immunity system. Plus when you factor in that you are basically taking testostarone, and many of the hormone replacement theropies have been shown to cause cancer, I could see it.
  21. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 10:08 AM) We're staring 4L right in the face. I get to play the roll of the guy who comes by after you get jumped and beat up, and search your pockets to see what is left in them by bumping this
  22. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 08:37 AM) Anyone remember where the Sox were heading to if DeBartolo bought the team? Denver
  23. Who the hell told him how to get in here?
  24. Holy s*** did Marte look good last night. No one had a chance last night in the batters box. Everything had tons of movement, and he had plenty of velocity. Let's hope it lasts.
  25. QUOTE(Y2HH @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 08:05 AM) Yes. Put down the kool-aid. F him for 1994. F him for White FLAG in 1997. F him for adding ONLY 25M in payroll bringing us to a staggering 75M which is LOW for a big market team in a big city. It clearly shows fans will show up if we win. So spend 100M like every other major team. As I said before...the Tigers are headed to 100M+...if you really think we can compete with them with a 75M payroll in the years to come, you're about to see the Tiglets win a bunch of division titles. We need to spend...this isn't 1985 anymore... And no, I'm not congratulating him for spending more money because it's nowhere near enough for the market he's in. It's about 20M shy of what it should be. Just remember NOBODY thought this team would be this good. NOBODY. So, to reiterate what I said, this team was build/designed DESPITE Reinsdorf giving us only 75M dollars. Oh, and this team will EASILY eclipse 75M next season...more free agents, more payraises, etc...and if we aquire someone like Burnett we have to sign that guy, too...which is even MORE. That's why I said I reserve the right to take back these comments depending on the trades we make and the moves/payroll we add in the offseason. I always leave room to IMPROVE...but the improvements I've seen thus far from Jerry are lagging behind the rest of the league. Riddle me this, would you rather than Cuban owning this team, or Reinsdorf?! Enough said. Cuban would have this team at 120M already, and we'd be considered an elite team EVERY year, not just one single year like this one. :P Its easy to say that we are a major market blah, blah, blah. We you compare us to Detroit, you leave out one easy fact, the Tigers aren't sharing a market with anyone. They have an entire city to themselves, not to mention basically the entire state of Michigan. Even if you wanted to assume that the Sox split Chicago (ha-ha) we would only be talking about less than what the Tigers have exclusive rights to. Keep in mind of all of the dual market cities, Chicago is the smallest. They also have the lowest ticket prices and the lowest attendance levels. It takes a halfprice night to get people to games here, while people pay $50 a ticket in New York for the samething... Gee I wonder why our payroll is lower? Hell the Cubs have a season sold out before they ever take the field, have way higher ticket prices, and still have a payroll barely at what you are talking about. You are being irrational to expect us to have a payroll like that with the ticket prices and attendance that the Sox have.
