9th inning Ozzie
QUOTE(thomsonmi @ May 10, 2005 -> 10:35 PM) If I was managing this team we'd be 33-0. Because everytime Shingo gave up a homerun in the 9th this year I wouldn't have put him in the game. And, every time one of our runners gets thrown out on the bases I wouldn't have had them steal. :banghead LMFAO!!!

After tough losses like tonights
QUOTE(El Piervizdyeguchansodnik @ May 10, 2005 -> 10:13 PM) Hey, this s*** happens to the best of the best. How do you think the Yankees feel, the Cubs? There are 162 games in the season. Sometimes you lose 1 heartbreaker. Sometimes you lose 2 heartbreakers in a row. Sometimes 3. I tend to look at the games before the all star break as our entertainment. If you win, great. If you lose, tough s***. Obviously, you want to win. The games after the break are where you need to step up and get s*** done and beat teams like Tampa Bay. Now, don't get me wrong. I fully understand that games in May mean just as much as games in August, they all count the same. But get s*** done after the all star break and you're going to be in good shape. Suck it up and go get them tomorrow. Gotta remember that teams like Tampa Bay, while generally not great teams, are still major league baseball teams. They want to win just as bad as you do. These teams aren't the ultimate pushovers everyone thinks they are. But hey, hopefully they learn from this loss and go out and do everything in their power to avoid being swept. All I know is that Everett, PK, and Jermaine owe us some serious hits. Great post Konan!!!

Shingo Takatsu
QUOTE(Whitesoxfan56 @ May 10, 2005 -> 11:10 PM) after shingo did poor again i figured to bring this thread back for people to see if they were correct or not That's weird, with the season ending on May 10th, I never heard anything about playoff tickets going on sale?

Gamethread 5/10/05
I think we are over looking one mistake that was made before the game even started. Oz started Widger over AJ. AJ has got to be catching Contreras every single time out there. Contreras went back to depending on the forkball that quickly, and had 5 walks to show for it. I know it was because there was a lefty on the mound, and that Widger had a great hitting night, but Contreras doesn't seem to listen to anyone but AJ.

Fast forward to the deadline...
QUOTE(beck72 @ May 11, 2005 -> 06:06 AM) Minnesota also has shown they are a player or two away from getting to and winning a world series. They don't like to trade their minor league talent during the season and it probably has cost them How much better would that franchise look if they hold sold the farm to get Randy Johnson for the playoffs? Sometimes you have to sieze the bull by the horns, especially if you aren't a big market team who can afford to wait a year. How would Wagner have looked last night? Just sayin.

QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ May 10, 2005 -> 06:02 PM) yeah he is asking for a lot of money, it wont happen, plus griffey wouldnt look right in a white sox jersey, i prefer a good backup outfielder instead Griffey isn't asking for any money other than what the Reds agreed to pay him.

So....what did you think of Robin?
QUOTE(JimH @ May 10, 2005 -> 06:11 PM) Disagree he sounds like an idiot. Only idiots stereotype White Sox fans as idiots. No doubt. He might not be the most dynamic announcer in baseball, but he isn't an idiot. He knows his stuff. Personally I love his sense of humor. It is very dry and caustic, much like my own.

May be old news, but heard this on pregame
QUOTE(robinventura23 @ May 10, 2005 -> 06:37 PM) Don't know the full story, but as I was listening on the train on my way home. Bruuuuuce Levine mentioned that the umps during the Oakland series will have disciplinary action handed down due to their action in the series. Apparently, KW or someone on the Sox sent a letter to MLB. Also, Ozzie and Crede were handed fines. WTF did Crede get a fine for? For popping up? Jesus Christ he would owe MLB money after they took his whole paycheck. MLB is a joke.

QUOTE(beck72 @ May 10, 2005 -> 03:02 PM) Wouldn't the sox only get picks if they offered him arbitration? With his $9 mill contract, the sox wouldn't offer him arb. The thing is, if the Sox win the World Series, or even make it there. I would be willing to bet that their payroll would jump to at least $90 million, if not $100 million, based on a huge attendance jump, and season ticket jump. And with the lack of guys that we need to resign, the money might be there to do it. We are talking $15-25 million extra to sign basically Garland, Thomas and/or Konerko over and above the about $20 million they are making now. All of the rest of the pieces of the puzzle are pretty much signed already.

Just got a phone call from Dave Wilder
QUOTE(JimH @ May 10, 2005 -> 03:00 PM) Jason/whomever: I know we have talked about this for a while re: an interest in having an interview with Dave Wilder, White Sox Director of Player Development, for this site and/or Future Sox. I emailed Dave this morning and he graciously called me back from Charlotte a few minutes ago. Dave said he'd be happy to do an interview with us, preferably a phone interview that we can record and upload to the site. I suggest we come up with a strategy how we want to approach this, and told him I would email him with several suggested times/dates when the interview could be conducted. He's very nice, and this would be excellent experience for one of you younger guys. Will one of you contact me via PM so I can share a little more detail. For the rest of the posters ... I'm sure we will open a thread in the near future where we will take your questions, so please do not submit them in this thread. All I wanted to do here is let folks know that Dave expressed a willingness to do an interview with us. Thanks a lot. Jim H. Hey Jim, if you want to PM me, I will make sure everyone gets it, and someone gets ahold of you.

QUOTE(JimH @ May 10, 2005 -> 02:18 PM) I can understand being a little frustrated with Dye, I am too. But it's not even halfway thru May, we are 24 and whatever, and Dye is a proven major league veteran. Why start the major league service time clock with Brian Anderson until it's necessary to do so? Also, he's been striking out a lot in Charlotte, 33 times in 105 at bats, something like that. He clearly has things to work on at the plate. Guillen talked today about how important chemistry is to this team. Yanking out a veteran and replacing him with a rookie when your team has had an awesome start, I think that might negatively affect the chemistry, don't you? Again, I understand some frustration with Dye but a bigger picture view is in order. No doubt about it. Plus when Frank gets back we have another bat we have to find room for, so we might see Carl out there too. And in a pennant race, you don't yank a vet to start a brand-new rookie to see if he can do the job. At least not this early in the year.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 10, 2005 -> 01:58 PM) Konerko will not be moved especially to the 7th hole. Also that is the slowest bottom of the order in Baseball from 6 to 9 there is absolutely no speed. Yeah, seriously, it would take 4 singles to score these guys.

Fast forward to the deadline...
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 10, 2005 -> 01:36 PM) On the other hand...there is just as much risk in making the 3-month-rental WS attempt as there is in holding onto the prospects. Say the Sox reach the end of the season, and then 1 or 2 key guys hit a slump, as happened to the Braves last year. Say the Sox get swept out of the 1st round. Then we've mortgaged another solid portion of our future in exchange for another missed opportunity. A guy like Anderson has the chance to give us 3 or 4 real good shots at advancing even further than this season's team can, and for less money while he's young. Moving from Dye to Anderson cuts another $4 million off the Payroll, and KW has done a marvelous job of moving around payroll when he is given it. And there is nothing to say that the Sox pen doesn't implode in the first round of the playoffs because they don't have a "real" closer backing them up either. Wagner is an elite closer, make no mistake about it. Marte has floundered in the role historically, Hermanson has been a closer for two months of his career, and Shingo seems to have lost whatever magic he had last year. The scenario of the pen imploding in the playoffs if pretty easy to imagine. Then where would we be? We'd have Brian Anderson, but conceivably have missed a chance at moving on to the World Series for the first time in 46 years, because we wanted to make sure we had a prospect who should be able to take over an OF position in 2006 if needed. This arguement goes both ways, and I just wanted to point out the other side of the coin.

Fast forward to the deadline...
QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ May 10, 2005 -> 01:24 PM) I know its only been a little over a month but I'm near certain that Brian Anderson could have put up Dye's numbers at this point, and played a better RF then what Dye has done thus far. Dye has to improve or he will be sitting watching Anderson play next year. I wouldnt make that trade either, first round draft choices just can't be moved for a 3 month rental... The key is, what if that 3 month rental could be the final piece to a World Series team? That's what makes it difficult to judge. Yeah, on paper it is a horrible trade. BUT, does the value of the trade look different if it is Wagner+World Series Appearnece for Diaz, Baj, and Anderson? How about White Sox World Champions, does that make it worth it? Most people are just looking at the values on paper, for you I say, put the stat sheet and Baseball America down, and think outside the box when evaluating something like this. A deal like this has to be thought about much more like the Lee-Pods/Vizcaino deal.
