This thread is kind of ridiculous. Of course RH wants to get rid of these players. It is obsurd that you would say he failed the organization if he doesn't dump those salalaries. THEY ARE ALL PLAYERS NOT DESERVING OF THEIR CONTRACTS. Why would anyone want that? I don't see any of them getting traded today. Put them all on waivers in August and see what happens. Hopefully we can get rid of a couple of them and bring up some youngins to play the last month or two.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 27, 2014 -> 10:38 AM) If you're sending out a mass PM, I'd like to be included. But if you have to do these individually, then please don't. I'm sure you're busy enough. Same, obviously I don't expect to get one if you are sending them individually, but it would be greatly appreciated if you are sending out mass PM's.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 17, 2014 -> 01:31 PM) Split this out of the MLB Catch-All and combined them, given Buehrle's iconic status around here. It really is a great breakdown of what makes Buehrle a great pitcher. It's not a stretch to say that Buehrle is the greatest defensive pitcher of his era, both before and after the ball is thrown, and it's what pushes him over the top. He's just an incredibly unique pitcher. Thanks. I dind't see that it had already been posted in there.

I really wish this stilled belonged in Palehose. http://grantland.com/features/mark-buehrle...rising-success/ It's awesome that he could potentially get to 300 wins. I think we would all be shocked if he signs another contract once this one is finished though. Always been a family man and has spoken about retiring too many times. He seems to be one of the last Tommy John type pitchers. Who else is out there today that is comparable? Zito?

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 15, 2014 -> 05:56 PM) SS is a premium position and Alexei is among the best in the league, is only 32 years old and is under control for two ore sesons at a reasonable salary. The Sox have no one in the organization pushing him, so they have no reason to trade him unless they get an offer they can't refuse. If some contender wants a top level SS like Alexei to put them over this season plus be under team control the next two seasons, they better be willing to cough up more than a flawed prospect like Garcia, an outfielder with poor defense who is big and strong but has never hit for much power and who has great speed but already seems to have lost a half step and is probably going to lose more speed as he gets heavier and older. He may have been rated as a top 50 prospect by somebody, and he may turn out to be a productive player yet, but for Alexei the Sox better get a top 50 prospect that is more of a complete player and has proven more than Garcia has to this point. Plus a few more good prospects. I don't understand how you can say "only 32". Most players, especially shortstops, don't stick around until they are 40 like Jeter. I agree that no one is currently "pushing" him, but there are young alternatives with upside available. If you like Garcia then why are you so quick to judge him as a flawed player. He's a 22/23 year old that was having a pretty good start to the season and it seemed like most everyone was excited about him. I wouldn't sell short on Montas, Rondon, or Wendelken either. He seems to be struggling more of late but he has generated decent interest as the 4th best player in that return. Again, I'm not necessarily saying Alexei should be traded, but that's the type of return I was expect and that I would be good with.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 15, 2014 -> 02:21 PM) Most of us here probably have some student loans, so a question for those that have changed up their repayment plan: My wife has about 50k in loans from her grad school and undergrad. We've been paying them back on a 10 year repayment plan starting in about 2009. She (and I) just learned about 6 months ago that she'll be eligible for the public service loan forgiveness program (after 10 years working at a not-for-profit and after 10 years of payments, the remainder of the loans go away). Having just learned this, we've been stupidly paying way more than we should be paying (you're welcome, America) for the last 5 years. Under the current plan we'll pay back what she owes in 10 years anyway, so no benefit for that program. I want to now apply for one of the income-based plans so that we pay back as little as possible. With my loans from law school i'm sure we qualify for some kind of discount on what she has to pay. Has anyone ever applied for one of the income based plans before? Any idea how long it takes and how much of a pain it is? Looks to me like they just look up our income tax filings and I give them my loan information and that's it. A few years ago, about a year and a half after I got my undergrad and I still didn't have a good job (I was waiting tables) I applied for the income based payments. They asked for a copy of my pay stubs. I believe the dates on them had to be within the last month. At the time my federal student loan was about $22k and monthly payment was around $260. As a server making about $24k-$26k that year they brought my monthly payment down to $203. Once a year they will make you resubmit your pay stubs to adjust your payment accordingly. I am making much better money now so I stopped submitting my paystubs because I figured it wouldn't save me any money any more. When I stopped sending them my pay stubs it went up to $280 per month. My only gripe with the income based payment plan is they don't factor in any other private student loans that you have. They simply look at that one piece of debt you have from the government and look at your income and adjust it based off that. It just doesn't paint the whole picture so in my eyes it is flawed and didn't help me very much.

I just think it just completely depends on what is being offered back. We have players that can play SS, but not at the level of Alexei. I don't see Hahn being scared to try Sanchez there as long as the haul that we get back is promising. I think it is essential to get a near MLB ready starting pitcher (similar to how we got Avi, except a pitcher) plus younger upside prospects. I would be very happy to get a Peavy like return for Alexei. I think it would be terrible to dump him for a lesser package though because he has a good contract and still fits in with what the team is trying to do. If we didn't have the surplus of middle infield depth at AAA then I wouldn't want to trade him at all.

SoxNet.net@SoxNet·19 mins Sounds like the @whitesox haul for July 2 is Ricky Mota (SS) Jhoandro Alfaro © Felix Mercedes (2B) Amado Nuñez (SS)

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 02:59 PM) We were discussing prospect with no "plus tools", but is still a solid player. I said that Rangel Ravelo immediately came to mind for me. He said he would consider his hit tool a plus, and some think he can develop his power in to a plus as well. Said he thought Trey had some raw skills, but his glove is behind his bat at 3B. I then asked him about if Hawkins may have finally turned a corner this year, and if he could actually regain some of that polish he lost from scouts. He said he saw Hawkins 6 weeks ago and didn't see anything to indicate that he figured it out at the plate. Said scouts don't seem to thrilled about him, but being only 20 and rebounding from such a bad season is a good step. Said he is still an easy out though. Said his raw skills though make scouts still believe it's hard to give up on him. He also said he thinks a move to Birmingham may help Hawkins simply because of the park factors. BIR is very pitcher friendly, W-S is very hitter friendly. Thinks a bigger field will make Hawkins tone down his big HR hacks. He said he thinks Hawkins fundamental issue at the plate is that he doesn't recognize the spin of the ball yet. He misses badly on breaking pitches. We also talked about how the Sox seem to never have a "no-s***" offensive prospect, at least not since Beckham and that didn't work out too well so far. He said a scout told him that the Sox seem to draft hitters with really good tools, but they never seem to improve within the system. They come in with great raw skills, but those skills stay raw. We ended our talk with me telling him that the Sox should send Thome over to W-S to fix Hawkins once he is done fixing Davidson in Charlotte. He enjoyed it. That's interesting, thanks for that. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to remember fangraphs doing an article on Hawkins in the offseason or perhaps late last season that highlighted the fact that Hawkins can indeed hit breaking balls. It was fastballs that he had a higher swing and miss percentage on. They did mention his spin recognition needed a lot of work though. Is my memory just completely failing me?

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 10:47 AM) I talked with Nathanial Stoltz a lot last night about our prospects. I asked him about Ravelo, Trey, and Hawkins. Any highlights to the convo?

QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ May 28, 2014 -> 04:16 PM) Don't disagree, but who is the SS of the future? Anderson has more work to do than Sanchez -- and he's only a year younger. I agree that Anderson is a long ways away still. I don't really want the Sox to trade Ramirez yet because he is a favorite player of mine, but if they get the right haul then I think it is the right move. If they did trade him this season then it would have to be one of Sanchez, Semien, or Garcia that takes over for this season and next season. In my opinion, they haven't publicly shown that they favor one of those guys over the other as far as SS is concerned. Sanchez has impressed me with the bat and the improvement at AAA this season. I have never seen him play short stop with my own eyes though so I have no idea if he can handle it at the big league level.

QUOTE (beautox @ May 28, 2014 -> 02:51 PM) Love seeing that Carlos is driving the ball and he is still only 21 will be 22 later in June. Over his last 10 .381/.426/.619 - 1.045, for the season .293/.373/.394 - .767. I still think is ceiling is Erick Aybar and his mid being Everth Cabrera, I also think he is more than capable of playing a average to slightly above SS, which is why it is very important to sell high on Ramirez and his career year instead of a year to late. Very few players at age 32 turn it on and take their career to another level especially in this day and age. If the Sox see him at the SS of the future then he would be playing there everyday. I don't disagree with your assessment, but the way the Sox are handling him doesn't quite agree.

QUOTE (ptatc @ May 27, 2014 -> 07:30 PM) Actually, there are. Things like thoracic outlet syndrome where the nerve or arteries are compressed causing loss of feeling or strength. There is no pain involved in this syndrome. Interesting. Thanks for the reply on that. Seems like that could be something to consider right? Is that something am MRI would capture?

QUOTE (flavum @ May 27, 2014 -> 06:05 PM) Something has to be wrong with Johnson. Hawkins- single and walk. I'm guessing Johnson's not in any pain otherwise I hope they would have run some tests. Are there many arm injuries where the person doesn't feel much, if any pain, but their performance is obviously affected?
-
If this season has taught us anything isn't it injuries are bound to happen. Depth is important. Next man up as they say.

Is there even the smallest chance the Sox decide to resign Beckham if he keeps it up and decide to have Micah spend the offseason getting adjusted to the outfield and put him in LF, with Viciedo at DH? That would insert a much needed LH bat into the lineup. But, between Johnson, Eaton, and Garcia that's not a very powerful outfield. FWIW, I don't see this happening. More curious to see other peoples opinion as to if this would even be thought about by the higher ups in the organization.

Which Sox are going to be traded this summer?

QUOTE (LDF @ May 19, 2014 -> 03:29 PM) With Hahn success in most of his dealings in trades, I think most teams will be disinclined to deal. That being said i see Dunn being traded to a contender at some point. Decent value in return for Lindstrom, I would love to trade Beckman to stl, bos or even yanks for some of their prospects, if not them then a general trade. De Aza, forget it I doubt if any would trade for him. Most importantly is trading flowers, I know we may not have a good replacement, but his good hitting is getting me to wonder if he is on the PED. 2 wildcard in players being traded, imo, is hoping to trade dank brothers as a pkg and trading Viciedo. There is no reason to think that PED's would make him a better contact/opposite diection hitter. He isn't hitting for any more power than he has in the past. In fact I bet he is hitting for less power than he has in the past. If I had the time I would look it up -
I agree with the Wynkoop Brewery choice as others have said. Hayters is the Bears bar that Balta was referring to. Cool place to watch football games, not sure about other Chicago sports. I would avoid The Tavern, Lodo's, View House type places unless you want to be around a bumch of fratty college types. Blake Street Tavern is a cool sports bar about a block away from Coors Field. If you are sitting in the upper level at Coors Field be sure to check out their new rooftop bar. I was at the home opener last Friday and it was an awesome place to be. That location used to be rows of seats in the right field upper deck that never got used and they just took out a bunch of those seats and made something awesome. Also, I've sat pretty much everyone at Coors Field aside from the lower right field and club level. I don't have any specific preferences. Every part of the stadium has something cool to offer.

I will definitely be at the game tomorrow night, debating going tonight as well. I wish I could have seen Sale, but Quintana will have to do tomorrow. It would have been sweet if Wednesday's game was a night game.
