  1. This is nothing new from Kenny. He is always looking for young major league ready talent in trades. The only major, or even semi-major, trade that comes to mind to make me think otherwise is the Vazquez trade where we reveived quality single A and Double A players in return. But this is the exact same mentality he had when we received Quentin, Danks and Floyd that come to mind first.
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 4, 2011 -> 03:58 PM) If AJ is on the team, IMO there's no way the new manager sits him 3 games a week, unless he DHs one of those games. If he's not playing 5 or 6 out of every seven, I bet you see a rift with AJ and the new manager, which the new manager won't want. Did you see the one postgame presser where the Mets' manager was crying recently about letting Reyes sit out most of that final game? He said he spent the year trying to earn the players' respect and he was fine with doing Reyes the favor. The Sox new manager can't afford to run afoul of AJ. So if AJ is healthy, Flowers will get Castro-like playing time, not much at all. I wasn't implying he should sit 3 games every week, I said 1-3, depending on matchups. I think if it is AJ and Flowers behind the plate in 2012 I definitely think Flowers will get more playing time than Castro did this season. If there was a rift between AJ and the new manager it could be good as it would give AJ a reason to waive his no trade clause mid season.
  3. Why do we need to do anything about the catching situation? It's KW/JR's fault we backloaded AJ's contract. It's for one more season, not at an absurd price (ala Rios, Dunn, Peavy), and he's still good. Keep him and play him 4-5 games a week while Flowers gets 1-3 games a week. It won't be a platoon situation but you could certainly take advantage of the righty/lefty matchups. This gives Flowers a chance to keep learning the staff and study under Pierzynski, whether Pierzynski is actually going to "tutor" him or not. After that hopefully Flowers is ready to take over in 2013.
  4. I realize our system is very thin but there is no way in hell Escobar is our top prospect.
  5. Congrats to my all-time favorite White Sox player, Mark Buehrle. I was stuck watching the gameday feed all night and still haven't seen his ovation. It's a shame if he and the Sox can't agree on a reasonable contract. All the best to him wherever he goes.
  6. Just got off work and, must say, am pretty stunned to hear the news with 2 games remaining in the season. I don't have time to read this whole thread so can I get a quick update? Is he just being released and then signing with the Marlins or are they working out a trade?
  7. I see, that makes sense.
  8. Why do Garica and Escober switch between playing 2B and SS so often? Everything I've heard says Escobar is great defensively at short so I don't understand not having him play there exclusively.
  9. Freakin De Aza just on fire lately. On a separate note, anyone thing Reed is going to make it to the Majors this year? 2 IP 5k tonight.
  10. Strange that the only two starters besides EJax without a hit is Q and PK.
  11. I live in SE Denver as well and will definitely be attending tuesday nights game and one of wed or thurs, haven't decided yet. GO SOX!
  12. Brandon Short has been flat out raking lately. Got off to a slow start now has his batting average up to .308...If i remember from last season and from what he has done this season he seems like a very streaky hitter. Anyone know what his defense in center is like?
  13. Where is Jon Gilmore? Havent seen his name in any box scores all spring.
  14. This is the best AAA team and worst AA team we have seen in some time
  15. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 9, 2011 -> 05:30 PM) For all you dog lovers out there, great MLB.com piece on MB & his wife Oh, and this quote has mysteriously disappeared from the article... referring to vick?
  16. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Feb 1, 2011 -> 09:02 PM) Unfortunately I was in Southeastern MI, in Ann Arbor. I was one of 2 Sox fans that I met (Im sure there were a few studnets at UMich that came from CHicago and were Sox fans) but 99% were Tiger fans or Cubs fans. Gross. It was incredible the amount of tigers fans that came out of the woodwork when they started doing well in '06. It was hard to cheer for maggs at that point even though he was one of my favorite players when he played for the sox.
  17. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Feb 1, 2011 -> 10:40 PM) Did you live there during the WS? Cuz I only remember meeting 2 sox fans while I lived in Ann Arbor, and I met them both during the 2005 WS in the place that's on top of Good Time Charlie's. I remember making my rounds to all my friends rooms on my floor and would turn the sox game on throughout the entire playoffs. By the time we made it to the world series I had actually turned some of them into sox fans. It beat watching the games alone!
  18. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jan 31, 2011 -> 01:38 PM) When I was in Michigan it was practically empty of Sox fans. My hometown is St. Joe in southwest MI and went to college at Western in Kalamazoo. In southwest MI it's mostly cubs fans with Sox and Tigers fans being the minority. I live in Denver now and see Sox hats on a weekly basis.
  19. QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Jan 22, 2011 -> 12:56 AM) Link: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...ws&c_id=cws Mark does not rule out playing another 2 years but says he can walk away if that is the best situation for him and his family. He does not rule out an extension or even hints at playing somewhere lese if it comes down to being the best decision for him. Too early to speculate but one thing is for sure, he won´t command another 2/28 type contract. Or will he? How could he fit into our rotation for another 2 years considering Danks is still not signed and this is EJax´s walk year? Would it be a good investment to sign him to say either 2/18 or 2/20 as insurance? I mean you know what you are getting with Mark, good solid workhoorse pitching with a few offdays. Thoughts? Sign me up for Buerhle 2/$20mil extention. With his longevity, reliability, knowledge of hitters in our league, and his legacy as a fan favorite and world series champion he would be well worth it. I might just be bias towards him since he is my all time favorite member of the white sox, but I would hate to see him sign with another team.

    Peavy

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 19, 2011 -> 07:13 PM) How can you say that so definitely? Because of a couple of reports from Cooper saying Jake is 'ahead of schedule' and 'on track'? Used to hear that all the time with Wood and Prior. Not saying Peavy is at that level of injury risk yet. But he's getting there. Just hope for the best but expect something in the middle is my philosophy. I didn't mean to sound so definite in my post. However, the fact that he's throwing off the mound a month early, Cooper's praise of how he looks, and Peavy's extreme competitiveness makes me think optimistically that it is a good possibility. Like someone else said, the Sox not making a move for another pitcher says a lot. And from the sounds of things Cooper really doesn't want Sale to only make a few starts then move to the bullpen.

    Peavy

The only way Peavy will miss more than a month of the season is if he gets hurt again. I know I shouldn't expect but I think he's going to be ready to start the season, regardless of what has been said.
  22. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jan 19, 2011 -> 03:25 PM) CREDE!!!!!!!!!! Nice, I moved to Denver recently. It would be great to see Crede at Coors!
  23. is it just me or is Ely having a very quiet great season in Birmingham this year? Why doesn't he get more recognition as one of our top prospects?
  24. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 1, 2009 -> 05:28 PM) is this show funny? I haven't watched it yet...tempted to. Eastbound caught me by surprise and was one of the funniest knew shows i've seen in a while. My only knock is this season was only 6 episodes.
