Can we still win the division??? I'll answer that with a picture.... Keep it at 2 games or less going into the final series because I feel a Sox and KC sweep to end the season!! Gavin is something like 4-1 with a 2.56 ERA in his career vs. Tampa, he keeps up that success and we notch a much needed victory.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Sep 27, 2012 -> 04:44 PM) Go 5-2 the next 7 and see where the chips fall. I think its possible. They already swept Tampa, in Tampa. Floyd Pitches well against Tampa, Sale dominated Tampa, so a win today esp after a Tigers win is needed in the worst way. The sox certainly show up when they play a tough opponent so 3/4 would be HUGE. Take that momentum into the Indians series and sweep their ass...EFF 5-2 I want 6-1! go for the jugular!

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 27, 2012 -> 05:35 PM) Serious question, not counting vs. Minnesota when was the Sox's last blowout victory? Have they had one in September? Did they have any in the last 2 weeks of August? why wouldnt you count the game vs the twins? They beat the tigers 6-1 about 2 weeks ago, 11 days befor that an 8-1 victory over the orioles

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 27, 2012 -> 11:39 AM) Maybe I'm the only one who sees it, but this team has left everything on the field this year. They're gassed at this point. If they can win 6 or 7 in a row or whatever it is at this point and they can steal the division away from Detroit, that's fine, but I absolutely have no problem with this year. I saw it too wite, they had the best batting average with runners in scoring position for most of the season which speaks volumes on what you just said. I know I keep bringing him up but Paul Konerko is the leader of this offense, and I think his "bad luck" at that plate has rubbed off on the rest of the team. PK is one of the best clutch hitters in the game and thats what we needed down the stretch was some clutch hitting, this team simply did not have that down the stretch and it killed us...The pitching was great, its all on the lack of clutch hitting.
-
I had all sorts of fun early on, then PKs downfall happened and I believe that directly caused the collapse. Its pretty simple to me, if we have a normal, healthier PK then the sox are at least 2 or 3 games up right now. Without a strong PK they're back to pre "all in" where they were a power hitter away from being a serious contender. But lets not throw in the towel just yet, the Tigers close the season with 7 straight on the road, where as we all know they're not very good.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 27, 2012 -> 01:22 AM) Also makes you wonder why the manager is asleep at the wheel and didn't bench him to heal up or move him down in the order. The sentence following the one you bolded kinda touched on that. PK is too much of a gamer.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 26, 2012 -> 11:09 PM) I wasnt going to in all honesty. Did at the last second because this team sucks me back. The bigger point was how pathetic this attendance is in a pennant chase. Sad. So youre going to fix this by not contributing to the attendance?? makes sense. Had The Captain of this team not dealt with injuries in the 2nd half of the season I'm posotive we'd have at least a 2 or 3 game lead at this point. When a teams clean up hitter bats around .240, drives in 19 runs (1 less than than the month of may) in the last 2 months of the season while leaving countless runners on base thats the recipe for a collapse. I wish Paul Konerko wasn't Paul Konerko and they moved him down in the lineup, even just a spot down would have been nice. If PK comes back next year there should be no reason they shouldnt compete...I expect Youk to be back unless they can trade for a 3B. Past David Wright who may not even be a FA there aren't any options on the FA market, and Brent Morel showed us no reason why he should be given the job again. Its possible Youk can come back healthy next year and have a better year. A healthy, or healthier Youk and PK along with maybe some progression from Dayan gives us a pretty good offense next year. Pitching wise getting Danks back certainly helps, but regardless pitching wasn't the issue this year.

The end of Ozzie Guillen in Miami?

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Sep 26, 2012 -> 01:01 PM) Lol bad baseball players??? They added the guy you keep bringing up as a KW mistake for not bringing back, Mark Buehrle. They added Heath Bell who was an All Star the previous 3 years. 3 years of 40+ saves with an ERA those years of 2.71, 1.93, and 2.43.....ya thats a bad bad baseball player. And they added the previous years batting champ, Jose Reyes Ya those guys are clearly terrible baseball players. I'm with you Q, I wanna hear him touch on that subject. -
Is that likely to happen??

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 26, 2012 -> 01:27 PM) I hadn't heard much about Reyes this season, but he is 3rd in WAR out of all MLB shortstops, so can't fault him for being a bad baseball player. I was just commenting on gregs claim that the Marlins "spent a lot of money on bad bad baseball players" which based on their previous track records is just false. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 26, 2012 -> 04:04 AM) Not 'everyone' here hates him, Blaze. I think he's great. Those writers are smelling blood and going in for the Ozzie kill. It's ridiculous. Loria is nuts. If Ozzie gets canned I hope Chicago media grabs him for a talk show or pairs him with Hawk n Stoney. Or maybe DJ will decide he's retiring and Ozzie goes on with Farmer. I love how Miami needs a scapegoat for this lousy season and as of today it appears it's going to be Ozzie. What a joke. They spent all that money on bad bad baseball players but they need the scapegoat. I can't believe a guy with Loria's ego would hire a loudmouth like Ozzie in the first place. For some reason I didn't know anything about Loria before Oz went there. He's another Steinbrenner type. Now we know why Ozzie got a four-year deal. s***, he'll be laughing in Loria's face when he fires him. We know how Oz loves money. he's gonna get 3 years' pay for no work. Oz will LOVE that. Lol bad baseball players??? They added the guy you keep bringing up as a KW mistake for not bringing back, Mark Buehrle. And they added the previous years batting champ, Jose Reyes Ya those guys are clearly terrible baseball players. I hope Ozzie gets another season just to see if that team can turn it around with Ozzie at the helm. Its somewhat similar to last years Sox team, they added a lot of payroll and the team wasnt very good, then Ozzie left and here we are in a battle for first. If Ozzie gets another year with the same team, they fail again, and then after Ozzies gone they click it'll really prove that he is now a cancer. -
Not sure if this garners a new thread or if it should be in the filibuster but whats this I've been hearing hearing about come country bombing us if we get involved in their business with another country?? Like I said in the filibuster, I woke up alarmingly early for me (630) and with the rest of soxtalk being dead (go watch that video I posted in the NBA thread if you have 20 min to kill, its hilarious and I feel like no one has watched it) I figured Id brush up on current events. I'm usually all sports and comedy all day so I dont follow current events or politics.

Wow, I don't jump into politics because I can't vote. I try to avoid all the riff raff but I woke up early today and on the wake of hearing about Mitts little airplane comment on Chelsea Lately last night I figured why not go see what everyone here has to say on this guy....Ive read the last 2 pages and my mind has been boggled as to why this man is a presidential candidate. This guy sounds more out of touch than Bush. I know I really added nothing with that comment but my goodness, there wasnt a more suitable candidate out there?? -

QUOTE (balfanman @ Sep 25, 2012 -> 12:17 PM) The problem with this is that it is not complete. If the Sox can score 7 runs the first few innings the offense will probably shut down for the rest of the game. Then, who pitches the 8th & 9th without letting the Indians come back and win. Sorry to be a downer, but that seems to be the "modus operandi" for most of this seasons losses. The pens been lights out over the last few weeks. Somethin like a sub 2 era and BAA -

This gets Peavy into the Tampa series and matches Sale with Price. I like that, if they take care of business these last 9 games they wont need Sale for #163 and Sale can still start game 1 of the playoffs. -

Who is our closer the final 9 games?
2nd_city_saint787 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I cast my vote for the mix and match option. There are so many guys down in that pen with good splits... A ton of guys that can get lefties out, Veal, Jones, Septimo, Santiago, and Matty ( who despite the hate he gets has been really good in the 2nd half). Then you've got guys like Crain, Myers, and Reed who are tough on RHers -
