QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 02:08 PM) We can't trade Sale yet, and even in a few days when we can PTBNL him, we have that mess where he can't be moved out of our system until June but he's actually property of the Padres. Hudson + Viciedo...if Hudson had had a similar August/September for us to what he had with AZ, might have actually been close. Not to mention the Sox most likely aren't in a position to pay Gonzalez $20 million + per year the next 6 years.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 12:18 PM) They still need OF help, and they're still in need of a bat from the RH side (Ortiz and Gonzalez both being lefties, Youkilis being their righty) Exactly, and Gonzalez makes relatively little in 2011 with Big Papi off the books in 2012. This probably ends Beltre's Boston career, but Werth has to still be in play there.

Going All In Then It's Time to Try Beckham in 3 Spot
Dick Allen replied to Marty34's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 10:09 AM) Time to push the learning curve for Beckham. I don't think they win the division with him hitting 9th or Rios hitting 3rd, and while Beckham may be best suited in the 2 spot I believe he still has the potential to be a solid 3 hitter. A Beckham/Dunn/Konerko*/Rios, middle of the order minimizes the base-clogging of having Dunn/Konerko batting back-to-back. If Paulie comes back, Dunn should hit 3rd. Let Paulie hit with a man on. Maybe flip them against lefties. -
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 10:08 AM) Do you remember the "White Flag" trade? Selling off key pieces in the middle of a pennant race can create a lot of resentment with your fans. Look how long it took our fan base to recover. I don't think there's anything wrong with trying to avoid a similar situation as long as your return isn't going to be insanely better at the deadline. It is ironic with the way the Padres do business that they are owned by a former super agent.

QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 09:57 AM) Wow, what a ridiculously backwards way of looking at things. If that's truly how the Padres feel, they are a stupid, stupid team. "Well, we'd better trade this guy before we accidentally contend for the division or something..." Its basically what happened this season. Its also the way a lot of people think when the Sox have a good contributing player 2 years away from free agency. To hell with he might help the team win, his trade value is higher than it will probably be a year from now, get rid of him. I'm sure SD is happy they didn't trade Gonzalez last winter when his "trade value" was theoretically higher, and traded him for the likes of Jordan Danks, Tyler Flowers, guys like that. Trade value is a 2 way street. The guys you may be getting back may never have higher trade value.

Sox engaged in "advanced trade discussions"

Heath Bell has to be available right now. I wonder if the Sox have anything SD would want. -
White Sox Off-Season Catch All Thread
Dick Allen replied to Chisoxfn's topic in 2011 Season in Review
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 05:35 AM) That's also Heyman's speculation, though Dunn and Pierzynski did both backload their contracts. $13 mill sounds about right for Konerko, considering his production, reputation, and the Derek Jeter treatment. Hoping for 2 years, though I imagine they'll give him 3, which honestly be quite scary. Plus he's coming off a huge year and turned down arb with would have netted him at least $14 million for 2011. If Jeter's contract would have run out 1 season earlier than it did, he probably would have received the money and years his agent was initially looking for. -
QUOTE (Real @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 09:24 AM) Considering his injuries, this could maybe be something affordable and wouldn't require top prospects/players If we could land him, assuming he's healthy now, I'd move beckham to 3rd and put Reyes at 2B. I know I know, fantasy baseball/xbox but I've always liked Reyes He makes $11 million in 2011 and then is a FA. He also doesn't appear to be quite the same player since his leg issues. He's a nice player, but if you're going to add that money as well, and the Sox really don't have a lot of prospects to trade, just sign Adrian Beltre to play 3B.

Sox engaged in "advanced trade discussions"
Dick Allen replied to Leonard Washington's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 08:30 AM) Ok, point well taken on the man crush and that he will get his man someday as he has many times. To be more direct and with less emotion, KW has made no secret that he wants Rasmus and I don't buy the fact that Rasmus and LaRussa have made peace. With that, the Cards are at a cross roads right now with this Pujols contract and either Quentin or Buehrle would interest them. Let's see what happens. Why would adding salary interest them? Buehrle making $15 million is not going to help them with Pujols. Even if the Cardinals decide Rasmus has to go, it isn't going to be to the White Sox unless Gordon Beckham is involved. -
QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 06:11 AM) I don't understand why some think that Dunn's homerun total will rise significantly. Washington's park is no bigger than the Cell. Remember, he will be coming to the American League. If there is one undisputable thing about Adam, it is that he is amazingly consistent. Therefore, I expect him to hit his perrenial 40 homers, no more, no less. Dunn also played in Cincinatti which is as big of a launching pad as USCF. He may hit 50, but you could say that about him every year. Chances are you are correct and he hits right about 40.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 01:16 PM) Bernstein stood by his stance that there are a lot of people who still hate Santo. A lot of people hate Bernstein. I wonder if he thinks his loved ones would appreciate some punk mentioning that the day he dies. Classless. The guy is dead. Let it go Dan.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 01:00 PM) The best part of the Cowley thing was that he was on the SCORE talking about how Olivio was looking to have a good shot and AJ was gone.....what a douche. This morning he was defending the Ozeroo's decision to go with the rotating GM. His point was that it was an organizational move not a OG move. I thought it was obvious that KW was allowing OG to try this way of doing things. I guess I could have been wrong..... When Kotsay hit his 5th homer, I believe Thome also had 5 and Oney tweeted, "looks like the skipper made the right decision about the DH". When Kotsay went bad and Thome took off, it was an organizational decision.

RIP. Thoughts to all those that loved him, and there were many who did. As to his HOF potential, my hatred of the Cubs and the fact they have a lot of HOFers made me think he can't be a HOFer, even though I really never saw him play, but I don't know when he's eligible again or even if he's ever eligible, if anyone changes his vote now that he's gone and he gets in, shame on them. Not for letting him in, but for not letting him in when he could have enjoyed it.

QUOTE (qwerty @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 01:42 AM) The nice thing is there are several options at first base, some better than others, but still several solid choices to choose from. I would be very hesitant in the long run... which is the ultimate goal for any business/franchise. People are throwing around the idea of a large commitment to konerko, on top of two huge commitments to rios and dunn? The sox have one of the biggest question marks in the game with all things considered in peavy. Peavy is guaranteed 33 million over the next two years to be nothing more than what i already mentioned, a question mark. A smart move has to be made. A smart move, in my opinion, is not retaining a player at 10+ million for 3 years, given our situation. Floyd/ danks will eventually get paid, and get paid well, soon. Let's say quentin just so happens to tear the cover off the ball (one of the leagues bests) this up coming season. Unrealistic? Yes, probably. Beyond belief? No. But the man would be paid, and he would be paid by the white sox. These things have to be considered. There is a ton of money potentially locked up in only a select few. One or two more long term, extremely expensive contracts, over the next two seasons will be enough to cripple this team for many years to come. I see someone coming in on a one year deal, and there very well could/will be an option for a second year. If not, a straight up two year deal can not be written out of the equation for whoever is brought in. I'm not against what happened today, i'm all for it, but what people have to remember is there will always be three sides to every story ever told. But when you really have to extend Danks and Floyd, chances are Buerhle, Jackson and Peavy will be off the books. It doesn't help that guys like Jordan Danks and Flowers appear to be close to useless. Hopefully Mitchell can play over his injury. I don't think the Sox should go 3 years with Konerko.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 02:14 AM) I don't understand how anybody would want Pena on our team. Konerko over Lee. Exactly my thoughts since money doesn't appear to be an issue.

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 09:30 PM) Why trade him when his value is at its lowest? A bucket of the Col. is pretty nice.

QUOTE (sircaffey @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 06:30 PM) How many times did a throw pull PK off the base that wouldn't pull Adam Dunn off the base? If you have MLB Network, watch the Hot Stove show if its replayed tonight. They have a clip of Dunn playing 1B. Its a scared straight clip like the movies of black lungs they would show you in high school so you wouldn't even think about smoking. While I know you can make a clip of just about anyone for 10 plays or so and make it look scary, not as scary as this one looked. Dunn is a terrible defensive 1B. Awful. If they told him he can play there once or twice a week to keep him happy, you could probably live with that, but with the way Alexei loses his concentration, you would easily add 10 errors to his total, not to mention anyone else.
-
MLB Network showed some lowlights of Dunn playing 1B. There were some plays you don't see much in Little League. Supposedly he has been in contact with Konerko and is OK DHing.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 04:48 PM) Am I really the only one who doesn't care for this move? Great, we're building the team to be station to station, hit home runs or get shut out. Haven't we gone through this all before? The White Sox DH OPS last season was .728. This move improves the team as long as they either re-sign Konerko or replace him with a competent hitter.
-
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 04:42 PM) 3-4-5 could look like: Rios Dunn Konerko or Rios Konerko Dunn That's a hell of a trio. Alex Rios isn't a 3 hitter.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 04:42 PM) the 2nd coming of Luzinksi! He's Jim Thome Jr.
-
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 04:39 PM) KW says they have room for both Dunn and Konerko, and that would be the ideal fit. - Cowley Will this put an end to the Sox make no money talk?
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 04:40 PM) I hope I'm wrong, but my guess is this means bye-bye Gavin.... He could be gone, but I think he only makes $5 million in 2011.
-
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 04:26 PM) I would think one of Buehrle/Peavy/Rios/Jackson HAVE to be traded if the Sox truly intend of bringing Konerko back. Also, interesting that Dunn's starting point was 4yr/$60, and he took $56. Wonder if he agreed to it so long as they throw that $4M to Paulie. They gave it to Manny.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 04:21 PM) I think they are trading a starting pitcher. Maybe Edwin Jackson. He was the bait to get Dunn in July.
