  1. I don't like Javy, never did, but I wouldn't trade him for Rolen. While at one time he was quite a player, he makes too much cash, plays too infrequently and doesn't play anywhere near the level he once played. It would be like signing Joe Crede but doubling his salary.
  2. QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Nov 3, 2008 -> 03:40 PM) I can still see Chambliss bulling his way thru the crowd on the field after a playoff walk off homer. He is managerial insurance with a winning backround and Gary Ward waiting in the wings to be hitting coach again. A player revolt is what caused Ward to get canned in the first place. He won't be the hitting coach for the White Sox again, even if the team is hitting .220 in June. Chambliss on the other hand............................but these are Buddy Bell hires, and he really isn't hiring for potential replacements for the big league team.
  3. QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 3, 2008 -> 04:31 PM) Why should she have to though? What if she has herpes or something? Should she have to reveal that to everybody? I know it sounds like I'm being facetious but I'm not. While I agree most times medical records should be private, she is the one running for office and could be in a position to have the most powerful job in the world. Voters should know the medical histories of all candidates, just like baseball teams should put players through physicals when signing them or trading for them. If there is something seriously wrong with them, or a possibility of serious issues that could either prevent them from being able to serve or affect their ability to do the job, voters should know. If they have herpes, while it may show a lack of judgement at one time and maybe not, it probably isn't something that everyone needs to know.
  4. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Nov 3, 2008 -> 06:58 AM) You know, I understand that Chicago people dont like Rex for his inconsistency and his maddening swings between really good and really, really bad. But the manufactured anger towards bullsh*t stuff just doesnt make sense. Some douchebag called into the score this morning and took personal offense towards Rex' spike after the sneak-in touchdown because he said it was towards Chicago fans, and fans started calling in agreeing with him about it. Are you kidding me? What the hell is wrong with people, let the guy live a little after scoring a touchdown. Obviously, Rex is very inconsistent and probably will never be a Pro Bowl QB. But I agree with you. Face it, the guy was the QB when the Bears made it to the Super Bowl, and has probably received as much crap from Bears fans as any player in history. Even if his spike was directed at some of the naysayers, which I doubt, good for him.
  5. John McCain's healthcare plan will "blow up" the employer-based system and healthcare experts are not so hot on that idea. Experts, however, fear that eliminating the tax advantage of employer-based coverage would prompt younger, healthier workers to leave their office plans. If that happened, costs for the remaining workers could skyrocket. Companies may drop coverage altogether. But the McCain campaign fought back that idea with an even stranger defense: Younger, healthier workers likely wouldn't abandon their company-sponsored plans, said Douglas Holtz-Eakin, McCain's senior economic policy adviser. "Why would they leave?" said Holtz-Eakin. "What they are getting from their employer is way better than what they could get with the credit."
  6. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Nov 1, 2008 -> 09:32 PM) Find where Ive defended McCain for me please I'm sure if people defend him, you would have zero objection. Very different from defending Obama.
  7. The question I have is what type of responsibility is Obama supposed to take for his aunt? An aunt who is a half sister of his father who has been dead for 26 years, and a guy Barack saw once the last 17 years he was alive. For all we know, he may not have even spoken to her since he met her 37 years ago. Should I be held accountable for my aunt's actions? Should you?
  8. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Nov 1, 2008 -> 09:00 PM) I think its message board worthy and I also think its a bigger deal than a lot of the bs posted about McCain. The thing that bothers me about it is how blindly some people will defend this stuff and then go and post garbage about McCain. So, its right to post garbage about Obama, but defend any criticism of McCain. Its just wrong if its the other way around.
  9. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Nov 1, 2008 -> 07:39 PM) The s was a typo I couldnt change because it was a thread title, but Im getting the responses I expected. Im sure if it was McCains family it would be a huge deal. I know its not as big as a private jewish groups opinion on Obama but that seemed to really ruffle some feathers. Really? Where's the individual thread that has to be made about McCain's brother's 911 call? Is the s really a typo? You know he was supposedly paling around with terrorists. The republicans had another guy with Ayers that supposedly tudored Obama, but when they found out the guy died when Obama was 10 and even the Ayers stuff wasn't doing what they hoped, they backed off a bit. Its just campaign talk is what McCains said.
  10. QUOTE (YASNY @ Nov 1, 2008 -> 04:51 PM) Do you think other GM's don't know you are looking for a 3B? Kenny makes a couple of calls asking about 3B's and every GM knows it. This has nothing to do with leverage or trying to smokescreen the other GM's. It's all about saving face if nothing comes through. And that is not a criticism of KW as all GM's have to do that. KW probably wants other GMs to at least entertain the thought that while he may be looking for a 3B, he's more than willing just to let Fields have the job. It could lower an asking price if they don't believe he's totally desperate. Its a poker game.
  11. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Nov 1, 2008 -> 05:11 PM) So, Obamas aunt has been living illegally here for 5 years in government assisted public housing. She has also donated money to his campaign, and for those who dont know, arent allowed to accept donations from non citizens. Obama wrote about her in his book and now claims he had no idea this was going on. I'm sure Obama and McCain both know every single name on their donation list. It was $265. It will be returned. He wrote about meeting her in 1971. 37 years ago. He was 10. Considering he never saw his father again, he may never have seen her. But don't let facts and common sense get in the way for some last ditched effort BS. Also your thread title says family members, who are the additional people?
  12. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Nov 1, 2008 -> 06:58 AM) So we'll trade Javy and have 3 SP's next year and have two open spots to fill in the rotation. Hmmmm....is there anyone else thinking we just need to find a FOURTH STARTER and make Javy the Fifth??????It reminds me of all the bad mouthing Garland took prior to the 05 season, people wanting him out....Guillen had to calm people down by telling him "he's the fifth starter!" prior to the season...this way Javy doesnt start in the playoffs and you can move the rotation around a bit in September to give him the Royals instead of the Twins. I don't trust Javy in big games or in the playoffs but good luck finding another guy who can get you 12-14 wins and 200 + IP in the FA market guys...have we forgotten how friggin hard it is to find a guy like that???? What did A.J. Burnett go for in the open market??? 5 yrs and $55 Million? Trading him for a position player almost guarantees we're forced to sign someone to a $10+M long term deal unless we want to take a one year flyer on a washed up SP and either option only makes us MORE UNSTABLE in the starting staff. I'd rather us just go and get a #4, really. Put Javy in the 5 spot and just leave it at that. I don't get where everyone thinks its EASY to find someone who can get 12-14 wins with 200 IP and 200 K's on the market.... Who cares about his strikeouts if he loses? Everyone mentions his 200 k's. Did you see him perform the last month of the season? Did you see him when he was with the Yankees? Did you see him when the White Sox were contending in 2006? He was below average. $11 million or $12 million is too much to spend on a #5 starter. The White Sox would be foolish not to trade him if a team is offering more than it would for a typical #4 or #5 starter for his services. He cannot be relied upon to win, unless you plan on having a bad team.
  13. My questions to KW would be: If Josh Fields was so injured that it caused him not to be able to perform as anything but a mediocre minor leaguer why was he called up to the major leagues to take Crede's place when he was injured? Why was he given a spot on the postseason roster? Why wasn't he shut down in May or June? I think a lot of this is just rhetoric trying to make fellow GMs believe KW is not desperate for a 3B. Fields has to be option C or D at best.
  14. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Oct 31, 2008 -> 06:49 PM) Every single kid that came to my condo trick or treating dressed up like a democrat, they all wanted me to give them free stuff. Its sort of like being Alaskan.
  15. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Oct 31, 2008 -> 01:03 PM) Would Seattle take Javy for Beltre straight up? Or would we have to include somebody like Broadway in the deal? However, I'd love to get Hardy, but again, would they give us JJ for Javy straight up? Javy doesn't want to go to the west coast and has no trade protection there.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 31, 2008 -> 12:37 PM) Weeks would play 2nd base, with Fields at 3rd base. That would be horrific defensively.
  17. Miguel Olivo isn't going to sign with the White Sox to get 140 AB. With AJP around, that is what he'd max out at if AJ didn't get hurt.
  18. QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 21, 2008 -> 05:46 PM) I was actually going to use it on hookers and coke. Anyone got any better ideas? quaaludes and gin
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 30, 2008 -> 02:16 AM) Would any of you be irate if Nix opened the season as our starting 2B? The only thing that would make me irate is if KW came out and said he was going to be the starter next year. If he earns it, fine. The thing is, there are many people who think every minor leaguer KW signs now is the next Carlos Quentin. Nix was a minor leaguer who was released by the Rockies. If baseball teams who pay scouts thought he was half as good as some people on this board do without ever seeing him play, someone would have traded for him. Most likely, he plays in Charlotte this year.
  20. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 29, 2008 -> 10:04 PM) He had 26 PAs with runners in scoring position this past season, had 6 hits, walked 4 times, and drove in 6 runs in those instances. That doesn't do s*** for me either. It's kind of hard to drive in runs when you are not given the opportunity to do so, isn't it? I have no opinion either way, but I still have yet to see anyone else who could be brought in that would be a clear upgrade over Hall. Hall's biggest downfall is his inability to hit RHP, and next year, if Ozzie manages the team as well as he can, Hall should have fewer than 40 PAs against RHP (if Hall is brougth back). Preferably not at $2+ mill, but I have no problem bringing him in for around $1 mill at all. Unfortunately, Ozzie is going to have to play the back-up catcher against right handed pitchers occassionally and sometimes when lefties start, righties come into relieve. AJP is going to need a break. Probably more than he's been getting since joining the White Sox. IMO, AJP has been the one guy who if he gets hurt and is out for a significant time, would be the biggest blow to the White Sox. His back-ups have been beyond awful.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 29, 2008 -> 08:28 PM) Kenny Williams got rid of the single greatest White Sox player since at least the Black Sox era, and a guy that Jerry loved. If that doesn't tell you what power Kenny has, I don't know what will. But look at the season he was coming off of. If he hit like he did the next season, KW would not have been able to get rid of him like he tried to do after 2002. JR also let Hawk fire LaRussa, then said it was a huge mistake. KW knows the players like Magglio. If in the unlikely occurrance that Detroit would pay a lot of salary and give Maggs back to the Sox in a deal that made sense and the Sox had a spot to put him, if you think KW would say no Maggs left here on bad terms, I think you're wrong. KW is well aware that despite being a very clever hitter and baseball player, Maggs isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer, and what was said before and after he left was his agent talking through him.
  22. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 29, 2008 -> 03:58 PM) pageant walking consultant. To be honest though, she was thrown in over her head in this situation and the media ate her alive, but she is a very admirable politician especially considering what she has done in her own state. She battled her party, reformed governement, and helped her fellow citizens gain some income from the oil conglomerates that have been exploiting their region for a long time. There are many many less competent politicians in Washington as we speak. So she's redistributed the wealth?
  23. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 29, 2008 -> 03:59 PM) Toby hit .377 with a .920 OPS against lefties last year...it was limited ABs, but he's hit lefties decently over the past 4-5 years too. I don't care if Toby's back or not, I just don't think that is an argument you can use against him. 7 RBI in 2008. 3 RBI in 2007. Toby Hall blows. I'm not using it against him anyway. Get someone else. His .902 OPS against lefties meant squat, and defensively I feel he leaves a lot to be desired. There are better catchers sitting at home.
  24. I had CNN on last night for a minute and the report was McCain staffers one day after calling her a diva, were calling her a whack job. Her 15 minutes are about up.
  25. I think the Sox have to replace Toby Hall, even if he wanted to play for the minimum. He seems like a fun guy, but 10 RBI in 2 seasons and not exactly Johnny Bench defensively. Its time to get someone else to back up AJ. Either get a guy who can hit lefties or a defensive specialist, I don't care. Not some guy whose biggest contributions are shaving cream pies.
