I get how you say kids probably won't die from it, so go to school, but what about teachers, and librarians, and custodians, and bus drivers, and lunch ladies, and administrative staff.? What about kids bringing it home to their parents and grandparents? You said JB has done a terrible job protecting our most vulnerable. I disagree. He actually followed the science and was one of the few who actually met Trump's and Pence's task force requirement for re-opening. How is just acting like it isn't here protecting the most vulnerable?

I just wonder what the logic is for this threat. I'm sure they have ban smoking from the buildings. Isn't that basically the same thing? When I first started working, there was smoking in the office. It was awful. Then that stopped. More recently, they cut it from restaurants and bars, and the initial feedback was everyone was going out of business. This is going to kill the industry, much like you get with anything seemingly more on safety's side than not during this pandemic. Now, no one cares. In face, even smokers get it. They don't even smoke in the homes anymore. They go outside. Watching some in cars is funny with all the windows open, their arm with their cigarette hanging out. Trying to blow the smoke away from the inside.

Ken Rosenthal Retweeted Evan Drellich @EvanDrellich Source says no deal is close yet between MLB and MLBPA beccause the proposal was just sent by MLB. No agreement even in principle at this point.

The big rally on Saturday is so crazy, and like gassing peaceful protesters for a photo op, this is just to massage an ego. If one person gets sick because of the rally, all the enablers should be held responsible.

Masks always seem to be key, yet so many just refuse to wear them. If everyone did, we would be far better off right now.

And I don't get why people refuse to wear masks. It's easy, and it shows others you actually give a fuck about something other than yourself.

Who's At Fault For No Agreement On The Start Of The Season?

That just isn’t true. Depreciation and amortization is an accounting trick teams use to make a profit look like a loss. Here is an article that explains it better than I can here. But people do not spend billions of dollars on things that aren’t profitable. https://sabr.org/research/roster-depreciation-allowance-how-major-league-baseball-teams-turn-profits-losses -
I think people in Japan don't have as big of problem wearing a mask as they do here. Some people need to realize they actually look way better with the mask on than off.

Buses and trains aren't only going to be a problem for students, but for commuters as well. The other thing is for downtown office workers, elevators. I start work pretty early, so in the morning, elevators aren't a problem for me. But if I go downstairs between 9 AM and 1 PM, the elevators are a nightmare now. When they don't let you pack them in, it will be worse. I used to work at the Sears Tower. I can only imagine how long you might have to wait there.

They should quit reporting job losses. Then there would be no unemployment.

Who's At Fault For No Agreement On The Start Of The Season?

It's so funny how some just don't want to see what is obvious and don't want to picture owners making large sums of money, but even then, people want it both ways. JR is unique because he owns the Sox and Bulls, and most of the people in the Bulls ownership group, also have a piece of the Sox. Yet, if anyone mentions, well, the Sox could take a hit because the Bulls made a ton of money, it gets shut down because they are 2 separate businesses. Yet, you seem to have no problem with the players having to take a cut to pay Ricketts' loan to rebuild Wrigleyville even though those are separate businesses. Like the writer for the Athletic said, they are capitalists when the money is flowing, but socialists when there is an issue. -

The Braves are the only MLB team owned by a public corp so their books are public. They made $94 million in 2018. They made $54 million last season, but after some accounting tricks, their $54 million profit was a $32 million loss. The owners have told the players the industry has never made $250 million profit in one season. Yet in 2018, the only public company of the 30 teams made 40% of that. Maybe it's just bad luck for the owners that the only team required to show their books made 40% of a figure they claim as an industry they have never done, but it's pretty obvious it's BS. -

Don't you know the only reason there have been all these outbreaks is because of POTUS' greatest testing ever. Many have said the greatest testing of anything anyone has ever done. They are getting calls from all over the world wondering how it was done. If it wasn't for testing, there would be very few, if any Covid 19 cases in the US. It still boggles my mind how many people buy this crap.

An article in The Athletic put it a lot better than Me, although it was the mist of what I have been trying to say. The owners are capitalists when things are going well and socialists when times are a bit tougher.

Chris Doyle, the $800k a year strength and conditioning coach at Iowa is out after a former player expose on Twitter showed him to be racially insensitive at the very least. If any of it is true, and I suspect at least most, if not all, was, he got what he deserved. Hopefully the program can learn and become stronger. There were a couple complaints about Brian Ferentz, the coach’s son, and seemingly heir apparent, but it looks like he won’t be sent packing, although when his dad hangs them up, Brian now might not get the job.

The new phenomenon by me is people not wearing masks but holding them. What’s the point? It looks like the research is showing wearing masks seems to be extremely important. But you don’t want to bother anyone who thinks this is a hoax. Might as well drag this out as long and as painful as possible If everyone would wear masks, and had been wearing masks, this actually might be close to about as over as it could be without a vaccine. When VP Pence said in April that by Memorial Day the virus would be behind us. I thought he actually meant it would really be behind us, not just the federal government acting like it is gone.

Supposedly the owners will lose a lot more money by not playing at all. Considering they need players to play, it seems to me the players would hold the upper hand. They could refuse sighting safety.
-
I aagree. It's one thing to work for a company that may go out of business if you don't take a paycut. But if you work for one where the owner can sell and wind up with a couple of billion dollarsEi it's hard to justify the cut. The players are getting what they get per game. That makes sense. They are also the ones taking the risk. How many essential companies gave their employees combat pay? It is really hard to have any compassion for the owners, especially when they "negotiated" the same monetary deal over and over again. It had to be a play at the dumb public. So, either they think the players are really stupid, the fans are really stupid or both. I go with both.
-
If you are good enough to take the $20k and wind up being successful, you aren’t going to have a hard time finding a JUCO that will let you play all the time. Worst case scenario is you get a year in school and some development, and if you get redrafted, if it costs you, maybe it costs you $10k. So what. The extra year in school is worth that. How much development are these signees going to get before next spring?

If JR, who, according to Forbes made $66 million with the White Sox last year, and has often said his only goal was to break even, shared that profit with players and White Sox employees, you may have a point.
-
Let there be issues. There was going to be a fight anyway. The owners could have made it a bit better by actually taking some risk here.Caving to ownership isn’t a solid strategy, especially when they won’t prove their claims. If the person or corporation owning the place you work said we didn’t make any money this month, next month looks bad, in fact the next year looks not so hot, we I’ll pay you 1/3 of your salary to work 1/2 the time, I am sure they would be tickled you understood and were on board covering for them. I am guessing most of your colleagues would flee.

That doesn’t matter. Their guaranteed contracts aren’t tied to how much money the owner makes. The owner can make unlimited money. The player only gets paid what his contract says he gets paid. Besides, even you acknowledge the owners won’t show the players how much they will lose The players are taking the health risks and having to go through all of what they will go through. Pay them what they are contractually obligated to be paid, and if it results in a loss, that is part of owning a business. If a recently re-opened restaurant wanted to triple their prices to make up for r losses in a pandemic, there is probably a good chance most patrons, even if they were sympathetic, wouldn’t feel obligated to bail them out, and choose some other place to eat. Now, if they had an attendance clause in their contract, that stated if the team only drew x amount of fans or less, they would be guaranteed less, then they would have a point. Most people get some sort of raise and some sort of bonus every year. If the company they work for says they didn’t make any money so no raises and no bonuses, they might be able to get away with it once, but even then, tend to lose their better people. Sometimes ownership has to bite the bullet. They can afford it.
-
The owners acknowledge they would be losing even more if they don’t play. The players are the ones taking health risks. Many businesses gave their employees taking these risks, more money. Owners won’t show their books, showing they can barely make a profit.. Asking the players to take even a bigger pay cut is crazy.
