Tim Anderson to be suspended 1 game for... language?
Dick Allen replied to Jose Abreu's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It must be something he said. Whatever. It will be appealed and whatever the suspension is, it will be cut to one game. -
So it's wrong to manipulate, but OK to manipulate.

Try Groupon. They usually have several discounts for golf. -

At least this is watchable. Fulmer increased his spin rate, but not his ability to throw consistent strikes or have much command. -

He needed that one. He was looking not so good since his 2 homer night. -

He's really not noted for that, and you still want the other guys behind the plate as much as possible if you think they may have a future back there. That would leave this guy very little playing time. So, to me, it must mean someone isn't long at being primarily a catcher. Maybe they are now so excited about Collins' bat, they don't want him to take the beating behind the plate. -

Perhaps, but even bad catchers like Nicholas who have played in the major leagues want to put themselves in a postion to do it again. He's probably 5th on the depth chart. It's not like every other team is in the same situation. -

Let Collins be Adam Dunn there. The Sox signed a minor league catcher. Seems a bit weird. -

The Anderson Saga (continued from game thread)
Dick Allen replied to Dick Allen's topic in Pale Hose Talk
And they also loved Sammy Sosa blowing kisses and hopping around, but this board did not. I am pretty sure if Merrifield would have done what Anderson did, and Burr hit him on the ass his next AB, there would be a totally different take here. Just remember, as much as we love what Anderson did, when it happens on the other side, there is no reason to be pissed off. -
Coppock on Sports in the late 80s on WMAQ featuring "Dangerous" Dan McNeil was, IMO, the greatest sports talk show of all time. Heavy on guests, like on meathead callers. I actually went to a thing a library was sponsoring last year when his book came out, and he spoke for a couple of hours. He was a lot of fun. Corny as hell,, but I like corny.

The Anderson Saga (continued from game thread)
Dick Allen replied to Dick Allen's topic in Pale Hose Talk
One thing to keep in mind, they did hit Anderson in the ass. If you are going to hit a guy, that is the classiest place to hit him. If they hit him anywhere else, there could have been big trouble. -
I would probably be more old school than not, but I don't mind emotion in the game. I get the act like you've been there. That's fine and works for guys like Harold Baines. But watch a little league game. Those guys are thrilled when they do something good. All the way through college, there is a lot of emotion. I do think the reaction to tying a game against the lowly Royals in the middle of April probably was a bit much, but they can have a crazy celebration if they strike him out. There is a time and place for celebrating. A halfback getting a first down with 3 minutes to go in a game with his team down 40 points really shouldn't act like a ref and give the first down signal. The guy on the Bears who hurt himself celebrating a sack a couple of years ago while the game was out of hand on the losing side was way overboard. Times have changed. You have to roll with them. When I was in high school, my dad offered me $100 to wave at the ball when I hit a home run. I never did it, but not because I would have been thrown at. That wouldn't have happened. I probably would have caught some flack in the handshake line after the game. I just thought I would be known as a jackass. Bat flips weren't a thing back then. But now, I don't mind them at all when they make at least some sense.

4/17 1:10 pm - White Sox v. Royals (Giolito v. Keller)
Dick Allen replied to bmags's topic in 2019 Season in Review
TA was probably a little overboard with his antics after tying an April 17th game up vs the lowly Royals, but so what. Deal with it. If you don’t like it, get him out. And they did hit him in the ass so that is no big deal either. They put the Sox best basrunner on in a tie game. Probably over reaction for both sides, and clearly over reaction from Joe West. Probably no one should have been tossed. -

Hawk would be on fire right now. His newfound friendship with Country Joe would be in peril. -
Except for Opening Day and the Cubs games, maybe once or twice more a season. The general rule is if they are expecting more than 25k, there is some sort of check happening.

If the Red Sox aren't a juggernaut and the Yankees remain hurt, the AL is kind of like the NBA East. Seattle is playing well right now, but can that last? Tampa looks like a good team, but other than that, who is left other than the Astros? Granted they are beating a beat up Yankees team and a horrid KC team, but most of the schedule is like this. They will probably win more games than I thought.

Time for a change ... Don Cooper needs to go
Dick Allen replied to SweatyFreddy's topic in Pale Hose Talk
That's the amazing thing to me. Coop seemed like he was at least 63 years old 15 years ago. -
I was watching. He was throwing mostly 94-96, but still getting clobbered. He had given up 11 what are deemed hard hit balls in the middle of the 5th inning.

Anyone else want to claim Swihart / DFA Castillo
Dick Allen replied to bmags's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The White Sox are going to improve a player the Red Sox could not? That's pretty laughable. They all suck, who really cares about any of them?
