What the White Sox are doing is within the rules and the smart thing to do. If the players don’t like it, they shouldn’t have agreed to it. They are doing wha is best for the team, just as a player will do anything in their power to do what is best for the player, players can pop off about it all they want, but if there is a loophole in their agreement that they can take advantage of I am sure they would. Yes, it is ridiculous Eloy has to go back to Charlotte. But it is just as ridiculous the Sox give up a year of control for 2 weeks without him during a non contention season.

He's always been a bit off on predicting the future. Jack McDowell and Ray Durham come to mind. They both were traded for peanuts in anticipation the system was going to change. It did change, just not the way they envisioned. This contract is fine if he's always an MVP type, but their first 8 years Arenado will make $95 million and Machado $96 million. Eloy will be older when he is eligible to become a FA, so assuming he's a big star, this is pretty much market rate. I would think guaranteeing someone even half of that before they ever stepped to the plate in the major leagues, should mean there is at least a little give at the other end.
-
But it's not really a bargain. If he isn't a star, that's whatever it is vs. $2 million to $3 million. I think he will be great, but I would want at least some clarity before I offered him a potential 9 figures.
-
The problem is, even with the options, if you don't want to exercise them that most likely means you have already overpaid him.
-
Personally, if I was the White Sox, I wouldn't do it. I would revisit it in a year.Maybe he wouldn't do it then, but it's not like if he is a star they would be getting a huge discount. The downside still is greater than the upside IMO before any MLB action. It isn't very team friendly. Not at all like the Sale, Eaton and Q contracts. If he performs, he gets paid.
-
He already is locked up for several years to come. This gives them a year and 2 weeks more.
-
So the guaranteed rate is probably less than half of the total.
-
And that's if he performs at MVP levels. I don't see the motivation for the White Sox unless their are team options involved.
-
The one worry you have is what this would do to Eloy's motivation. A lot of guys have been paid and all of a sudden the performance drops off. Usually guys are very hungry at his age. Now, I'm trying to get in touch with Gene Lamont's people. I have to do better than Caulfield's YMCA with him. Maybe kiss cam.

Theses same dopes probably wanted Matt Davidson signed to the contract Eloy is rumored to be hooked with after opening day last year. It is amazing the hot takes people make out of spring training games.
-
So far, they have been burned anticipating the "new" system. They traded Jack McDowell because of it, And also "traded" Ray Durham AND cash for Jon Adkins because of it.
-
If he is a perennial MVP candidate this is fine. Seems like a big risk for a team that is so against risk.
-
I don't see it it would be a lot more. It may be slightly more if he's a star among stars. I also think you could have offered him something along the same lines in a year or 2. It would be hard for him to turn down 9 figures then.
-
I don't understand this from a Sox perspective. Save the money, and pay him when he needs to be paid. From Eloy's perspective, if this is true, he needs to sign it quickly.
-
Hun said they would take a 2nd but really don’t want to trade him until they have a replacement. He also said they were never in for Bell, and he didn’t fit what Nagy was looking for because he may not be any faster than Howard.
-
Hub said the Bears turned down 3rd round picks for Howard.

He wants to you believe the 6 year old made everything up, or her mother did, and brainwashed the kid so well, her story would hold up, so he had no choice but to plead quilty even though he did nothing wrong. I suppose it is possible, but not very probable. There is really no reason to take a chance on this guy at all.
-
I just can't see how some expert wouldn't be able to tell if a 6 year old was lying. especially about this particular subject. I get it's very delicate, but even if a parent put them up to it, the vast majority of 6 year olds eventually telegraph they are lying about the simple things. This is a bit more complicated.

I think wins-wise, 62 last season is the bottom. Whether the rebuild will actually produce what it is supposed to produce remains to be seen. Obviously, not getting Machado or Harper was a big blow, but Sox fans are used to not landing that type of player. Just remember, KW took over a 94 win team, one of the youngest in baseball, with a farm system ranked #1, and couldn't build a sustained winner. I don't know why anyone thinks this is going to be way different. They need more talent, and not taking the final step trying to get the biggest of those talents in their prime years is something that is going to hang over these dopes if they don't build a consistent winner.

Bears signing Patterson.
-
Hopefully when the games count, he doesn't remind us of another Coop pick to click, Hector Noesi.
-
How many years would the rebuild take if these clowns started at the same place Theo did? No talent to get them Moncada and Kopech and Basabe and Lopez and Giolito and Cease and Eloy? Why is it they should be on the same timeline?

Here's the post that started it all. Either way it's much easier for the hitter to hit and control a high fastball than a low one. The low fastball is either going straight into the ground or straight up hence the reason for the upper cut swing with the low ones. What was that about not being able to read?
-
Probably because they aren't throwing them high enough. High fastballs are hard for major leaguers to hit. I posted an article. One guy says high ones look like they are 200 MPH. Another guys says you have to cheat to catch up to it....
