  1. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 13, 2016 -> 08:21 AM) It's not that they're clueless, it's pretty much the opposite. They know they can raise ticket prices by 7% and not lose a ton of accounts (at least not yet). The problem I have is with the reasoning. IMO, it feels like they know a rebuilding is going bring down attendance so they might as well maximize their fixed revenue by price gauging their most loyal customers. I think that fans like you deserve better, but to each their own. The reality is the average ticket price for the 2016 White Sox was 25% less than it was for the 2008 White Sox. So you still aren't going to have to pay anything near what you would have 8 years ago.
  2. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 13, 2016 -> 08:17 AM) I think it's pretty obvious that he's gone, given he removed all the White Sox related stuff (picture, bio) from his account. I would think so. I looked at his Twitter when the thread was created, and after WSD mentioned the non tender possibility. He still had Southside 2B on there, so it isn't like the rumor came from that removal.Maybe just a coincidence, but it would be quite a coincidence.
  3. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Nov 12, 2016 -> 04:58 PM) They get what the market can bear. That they are raising prices this much after the last few years is just another data point that this ownership group is absolutely clueless. There's a reason the Cubs, Red Sox, Yankees etc charge what they do. Demand. I don't see much demand for Sox tickets, do you? Well, so far everyone who has season tickets discussing this increase is renewing. So why would ownership be clueless?
  4. It is still weird. The 40 man is at 38 right now, so that really shouldn't be an issue. The non tender deadline is 3 weeks away. What if Saladino or whoever you want playing second encounters a physical issue between now and then? His arb number is $5.1 million supposedly. He was over a 1 WAR in 94 games last year, so there is very little chance he won't earn his keep. If you are rebuilding, maybe he gets really hot and you flip him.I suppose the argument against is it isn't like the Sox gave up a boatload to get him when he was cheaper and had more control, and wasn't as big of physical question mark. Perhaps his injury hasn't healed, and he needs surgery or something. Or maybe they just wanted to do him a solid and let him get on the market sooner. Or maybe it is nothing at all. Journey continues, led in wrong direction. It is kind of weird. Maybe they misdiagnosed his injury. You would think with all the response on his Twitter, if it was nothing he would respond.
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 13, 2016 -> 05:30 AM) Michigan hadn't played a real road game all season and it got em. that loss most likely took Ohio state out of the conference title game should they win out. You had one job Harbaugh. Dick Piss off Michigan and Ohio State in one game.....priceless.
  6. The deadline to tender contracts is December 2nd. Seems weird that he would be non tendered now.
  7. QUOTE (palehose1 @ Nov 12, 2016 -> 10:04 AM) when you have seats go from a little over $50 per game per ticket to $54 that's significant. Our invoice went up like $1200. I don't mind paying that when they put out a good product but these last few years have been awful. If I cant make a game and have to sell n Stubhub I usually take a loss. I'm sure if someone did a study of the Cubs or other big market teams the resale value % is much higher, the Sox have to be near the bottom the league in resale value. Of course we could always cancel our plan but we wont, just too loyal to the team and its part of my summers for many years. It just doesn't seem like great timing to raise product prices 7% when you are having quality issues. You wouldn't like Cubs prices. And they will certainly rise.Well over double what you are paying for a comparable seat, and when they were losing before last year, resellers were taking quite a bath, losing more than if you just ate them. While 1200 is significant, if you were willing to pay $50 a seat, $54 really isn't a big deal, although I am curious why they didn't address it. That seems a bit strange for them. http://www.bleedcubbieblue.com/2015/11/13/...rmation-pricing The problem you have is your seats are too good. They would have no problem finding someone to take them if you gave them up. I have been around since the final season at the old park and skipping a season after my friends death. Our first year we had upper deck boxes and they were pretty far down the line. They would now be classified upper deck reserved,a don ironically are about the same price they were when the park opened. We eventually made our way to premium club level, and those we loved. They used to always jack up the prices $1 a ticket every year for a while, but seemed to stop that 5 or 6 years ago.
  8. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 12, 2016 -> 08:51 AM) So you're getting nothing new and receiving a 7% price increase. I get it's only 2% effectively with the 5% discount, but you earned that by using all your tickets and spending $8.75 a beer and $9.00 a hot dog at those 27 games. I think you should be pissed about that because you are an incredibly loyal fan who commits a lot of time and energy to this team. I won't argue that you're still not receiving a ton of value with your particular package, but I don't like the messaging this price increase sends on the cusp of a rebuild. And for full season tickets holders in the lower bowl, 7% is a big chunk of money. Well you really don't have to spend any money on food and drink if you don't want to. White Sox tickets at one time were among the highest priced in baseball. They are below average right now. They haven't raised prices except some were raised and some were lowered when they split the premium lower box into 3 tiers since 2012. I would rather they not increase it, but it is understandable they would eventually. a poster here says his went down, so right now it appears only selected seats have increased. We will see. The thing is, if I don't like it I can always say no. I did rail on the White Sox in 2009 for raising ticket prices and lowering payroll, but I was upset because they had my non refundable playoff money, and it is a scenario you really cannot say no. I used to have full season premium club for many years until my friend I shared them with was in an accident and died. So I cut back to this and get my wife to go. It really is a great deal, and if you know what you are doing, can sit just about anywhere you want. The other thing is, they have no problem selling their best seats. You can't get tickets from them in the first 10 rows of the infield. if someone bails, they will fill them with established ticket holders.
  9. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 12, 2016 -> 07:53 AM) Are the two free games and two parties new this year? You didn't get those last season? No, I received those last year. My package cost $297 a ticket last year for all Weekend games and 1 Cubs. Even on groupon the lower eserved with patio is at least $50, so 2 of those, a season ticket holder party before the season and during the season with free food and drink. Plus they give you discounts up to 5 % on next season determined by the percentage of your tickets that were used. Can you name another MLB team I can get anywhere close to that?
  10. QUOTE (Jimmy3Putt @ Nov 12, 2016 -> 07:30 AM) That's BULL$H!T!!! Do you know what I could do with $14?? It really is horrible. We need to set up protests. Almost $7 a ticket total for 27 games. They are out of their minds.
  11. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 12, 2016 -> 07:19 AM) You really are one of kind. If they're actually going to rebuild and raised season ticket prices by 7%, then you should absolutely be pissed. That's so f***ing ridiculous I'm not sure how anyone could defend them. I think they raised the prices on the cheapest of the cheap,a nod maybe some others but not all. Someone here already said his went down. Probably has something downstairs. I have upper deck reserved. This " increase" will cost me about $14 total for 2 seats with my discount. So about 25 cents a game. They also threw in 2 free games with patio party, and 2 other parties. The bastards.
  12. Looks like mine went up 7% but since I used all of my tickets I get a 5% discount, so it comes out a little less than 2% on the increase. Considering a pre season party at the Chi Sox Bar and Geill with free food and drink, a season ticket holder party, and 2 free games with patio party included and what I pay, it still is probably less than the Schqumburg Boomers. They hate the fans.
  13. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Nov 11, 2016 -> 01:22 PM) I know it's Vox, but the numbers are correct. Military and Political Experience of all the Presidents...Trump has Zero. Experience is imperative to manage MLB teams, but to run the country....not really, besides Trump can teach any General a thing or two about ISIS, believe me.
  14. In news Greg will enjoy, the professor who is always correct about elections and called a Trump victory when every thought it would never happen, is now predicting Trump will be impeached.
  15. God bless Harry Reid: White nationalists, Vladimir Putin and ISIS are celebrating Donald Trump’s victory, while innocent, law-abiding Americans are wracked with fear – especially African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Muslim Americans, LGBT Americans and Asian Americans. Watching white nationalists celebrate while innocent Americans cry tears of fear does not feel like America.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 11, 2016 -> 11:41 AM) If we are going to play that sort of a game as a country, the other side needs to shut up and accept the mandate of the election, right? See how unproductive that is? I don't know if you really have a mandate if one wins the electoral college and one wins the popular vote.
  17. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Nov 11, 2016 -> 09:25 AM) Some of them for sure, but that's not everyone. A lot of people from Wisconsin and Michigan voted for Trump because they live in towns where industry is gone. Trump told them that he would bring that industry back and that he was not part of the establishment. You can tell by the people he is bringing in that will not be the case. Of course, but that really should have been obvious as all of these people were working on getting him elected. That Trump is full of s***, I don't think surprises anyone. He has been full of it his whole life. There was a 60 minutes piece on his golf course in Scotland, all the jobs...all the new construction...it didn't quite work out like that. Same thing happened many years ago in Gary Indiana. The US could fall apart the first week of his Presidency and he will still say he was successful because he was elected. He is warped. If there is any good news about it, it's that many republicans feel the same way about him democrats do, so hopefully they can prevent catastrophe.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 11, 2016 -> 08:38 AM) One thing I picked up from the 16 in 16 series from PBS is that this is hardly new. Gary Hart held extensive conversations with the Soviet Union during this campaign for President in 1984, and had plans to use those negotiations down the road. Yes, but when US intelligence traces the hacks to one of the party's emails, it should raise some eyebrows.
  19. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Nov 11, 2016 -> 08:30 AM) He drained the swamp and filled it with toxic waste. He betrayed the people that voted for him as an "outsider" and someone who cares about them in 48 hours. I hope they see that. As long as they think not voting for Trump would have had their guns taken away, I don't think they care.
  20. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 11, 2016 -> 08:29 AM) I haven't heard much either. I had heard hes missing most of next season as well. Maybe the Trib is just clueless? He has a herniated disc that apparently doesn't require surgery. Kershaw had one and he seems OK. Whether it's an issue or not moving forward, who knows, but he should be in the mix in 2017.
  21. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 11, 2016 -> 08:12 AM) I'll ask you for a third time now, but how do you expect us to get better without trading our good players? Where are all these prospects coming from? You're not going to get much for Frazier, Robertson, Melky, & Lawrie. I'd love to hear your ideal plan, because honestly it sounds like you want more half-assing. Trade the garbage for C & D prospects and add them to a bottom five farm system. That isn't going to get us where we need to be. How do you really expect to get better when you trade ALL OF YOUR GOOD PLAYERS AWAY? You have to keep a couple around unless you are blown away. You do realize Eaton was "worth" more in 2016 than he will be paid the next 5 seasons don't you? He has 5 years of control. Unproven guys you acquire only have 6. They can trade one of Sale or Q. Maybe trade Frazier, Melky and Robertson unless you are planning on not half assing in 2017. While links to Keith Law ranking the Sox farm system so highly would be common if you traded everyone away, chances are they all aren't going to work out. Why do you trade a 6.0 WAR player, 11th in all of baseball, who is signed for 5 more years at a total of $38 million, and actually say it isn't important you get surplus value for him? I'm interested in the White Sox winning, not where there farm system is ranked. Top 100 prospects bust all the time. Eaton is far more valuable than you make him. And his control status is the same as someone who just completed their rookie season. So I guess you are all for trading Anderson and Rodon, anybody a team would give you a decent prospect to get?
  22. We all mention Sale and Q and their contracts, and rightfully so, but Eaton may be the best bargain of the 3. Only 10 players in baseball had a higher WAR than him in 2016. He is signed for 5 more seasons for a total of $38 million. Rookies who go through arb yearly may wind up making more than that.
  23. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 11, 2016 -> 06:22 AM) My point is if the next three seasons are a lost cause, then 60% of his surplus value is worthless to us. So let's say his hypothetical surplus value is nearly $200M ($40M/year), his effective value to us may only be $80M. Obviously you don't just give him away, but if a team offers a package of prospects that project to provide $120M to $150M in surplus value, then we should probably take it. Yes, we lose out on some theoretical value, but from a marginal standpoint we come out ahead when considering competive factors. Your theory is wrong. You want to hedge your bets by taking on more risk. That's not how it works. I'll take Eaton and his contract and his 6.0 WAR seasons and keep him around for when we are ready to go unless someone is willing to pay dearly for him, and makes an offer I can't refuse. Even when they get all these prospects, they are still going to need other players. Ben Zobrist cost Theo $16 million more for one year less and he's getting up there in age. Heyward cost $184 million. Lester cost $150 million. Lackey cost $32 million. If the Sox blow it up, 3 years from now, even if the prospects acquired work out really well, they won't be able to dish out those contracts. Trading Eaton now makes no sense unless you are totally blown away.
  24. It really boggles my mind this is getting hardly a mention https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/moscow...218e_story.html
