My take is the Padres are throwing numbers out there and are beating the White Sox and now the White Sox need to counter the offer. Neither guy was signing until this time so now the agents are getting their ducks in a row. There needs to be no meeting or selling teams to guys moving in future years. The NFL and NBA free agency starts and ends in a week or two. The MLB doesn't even start until the season is about to begin. I am not sure why this is but it is what it is. In regard to this new theory, took Moose two years to get what he would have gotten in KC if he took the qualifying offer. He has stayed with Boras after this and did the same thing this year so what the hell do I know.

CPD has suspected since day it happened it was BS.

A thing of note.....I think the only players left are white sox phils and maybe pads.......there is no team that has ever thought they needed to block the Sox from getting both. Only teams impacted are AL Central and Cubs who are all neutered. We believe Phils are in because of crazy money talk.....owner/McPhail isn't saying that now and is walking back from it. No team will jump in to block Sox there is no Red Sox v yanks......Dodgers v Giants......Cubs v cards thing here. There may have been some NL east noise but I think if Phils were in crazy money mode they would have signed one. Padres getting one and Sox left out is a massive blow to give them Tatis and not make good one getting us a whale to offset. I think getting both is crazy talk but I think they get one.

Everyone believes in the Phillies because of the owner crazy money talk in late fall. Crazy money would have signed either guy by now. Smart sensible money is keeping them out of camp.

You can leave a state because of taxes but then you need to go to a state and find a job that has comparable income. For instance using police officers as their slary is readily avaailable. Average Chicago cop salary $80K Average cop salary nationally $53K Average Birmingham, AL salary $44K When people talk about uprooting and moving there is a much larger picture to view than, oh taxes there are low.
-
The tax issue is not correct as they pay taxes in the state they play. All home games are CA txes but playing in MO is MO taxes. The amount of games the Padres play in CA is a whole more than the White Sox play there.

If there really is no market over $250M for either than the Sox could get both. I don't think this will happen but other then the White Sox and Phillies who is in play? A lot of mystery teams which are all bullshit, there are no mystery teams rather teams are checking in to make certain that $175M is not the gross number. If the Sox offer opt outs after 4 years to either or both or front load the shit out of the contracts, who knows what happens. Both of these guys have some flaws and the stupid money just may not be there.

Daley and Pritzker can get this done.

The White Sox are the safety net. I haven't read any article except for a couple and it is really simple. The narrative has not changed. The White Sox will go long term with a fair but probably under value deal that is sitting on the table for both players currently. The White Sox 2019 plans do not rely on them signing. Sure the Sox want one or both but neither is going to get them to the playoffs this year. IIf/when other teams drop in with real contracts the White Sox will get into the bidding and may be outbid but the White Sox are setting the bar low at this time and nobody is beating it. Keep the Yankees, Dodgers or cubs in the conversation gets clicks from their large fan base. The Nationals were probably in on it but then they went after Corbin. Teams with 2019 aspirations are not as one poster said, having a come to Jesus moment and are now dropping $300M. The offers are not there to beat the Sox. I am not certain the Phillies where the Phillies are at but if they wanted to go crazy one of the guys would be in camp by now with them. Maybe some teams jump in at $300M and grabs them. My feeling on Machado and why the Sox need him at any cost is that Tatis was a major F-up and Machado is an offset to that question. Yes we f'd up Tatis but we got Machado. You lose Machado and Tatis becomes something and the ineptness kicks everyone in the nuts for the next several years.

Said perfectly

And both have young players going to arbitration......go look at what Arenado just got and project that to the cubs abd yankees.

Bad point to give away though. -
Maybe before corbin it did and I'm sure it did last off-season. This could be 2 years in a row where Boras has gambled and hurt his client.

There is more of a mystic than a reality to Harper. For a 3 year deal you are talking about $120M.....who does that benefit and really makes no sense.
-
That is exactly what I think is happening. After Harper signs I think the Giants and cubs do bad contracts for bad contracts. Giants can't control where he goes but I don't think they are helping a fellow NL team get him.
-
I think the Giants would trade for Heyward but maybe are waiting until Harper is off the market.

He's 80 years old...we got Gar for a good 20 to 30 more years. -
In the second half the Rams were staying in the huddle until the mics were shut off as the defense has an open mic until 15 seconds as well.
-
Every farm system can say the same thing about every player except vlad Jr. Including tatis. Every player is a gamble.

Insurance will help with money but doesn't clear salary

Majestic no longer is the provider of MLB licensed uniforms. Nike and Fanatics do it now not sure if that matters I didn't read the article because if anyone is running low it is probably rolling off old Majestic products not because someone is guessing about something.

I really hope Michael Reinsdorf is never allowed to be near the White Sox and when JR dies the team is sold. He is literally turning the Bulls into a laughing stock. -
Any thoughts on true detective new season.....seems pretty good although only one episode in. More like season 1. Just binged Maisel on Prime easy watch. SS2k you still watch Vikings?

This should be the second thread in the new Machado thread and then the thread should be closed.
