Official 2018-19 NFL Thread

Still for the life of me cannot figure out why people feel the need to express their inner thoughts on Twitter or any social media. -
The dude that sat in Reinsdorf's office and he, JR and Frank Thomas were the only three people that ever saw Frank Thomas contract was the king of ESPN board and then Soxtalk. I was off the board for a couple of months when I had a different job and when I got back he was gone. Never really got the epic story of his being run out of town.

Of course they will if he plays well and they win

If he really wanted to play for the Yankees he would not have spent 2 days in Chicago the week before Christmas. If it were a due diligence meeting it would have been a couple of hours. I think the meetings were this week to let some time pass after the playoffs and feel some things out during the winter meetings. MY guess is there was contact the previous few weeks with the agents. If neither Harper or Macado wanted to play for the White Sox they would not be wasting all their time meeting with them just to try and raise the offer from the other teams they wanted to play for. The due diligence is to sit and spend a couple hours maybe three and be done with it, give us some numbers and leave town.

I want the Phillies to get Machado and the Dodgers to get Harper if both or neither go to the White Sox. As should every other fan of the future of the White Sox.

So Amos, Prince and Goldman didn't make it and arguably could have. The thing about the Bears is they basically play a 2-4-5 defense with only two lineman because Goldman and Hicks along with the ILB are so damn good in the middle. -

That is becoming more and more common and became chic with OPRF wrestling and then HF girls basketball. Love the Kankakee kid going to Hillcrest...I can't figure that one out. I am a catholic school guy so I do understand about recruiting but there are travel and financial hurdles to the catholic schools, I know families get some financial relief but they still pay something. -
If the Sox sign Machado I think they offer Harper something like 10/300 and I think Harper just goes back to Washington and signs for the proposed deal which I think was 10/286. Looking at it more i just don't see the Sox offering both guys so much more than others that were these more attractive destinations.

Maybe the Sox and the cubs TV deals are looking like two totally different impacts to the teams bottom line. Not that the cubs deal won't be lucrative but the sox/hawks/bulls and bears coverage v cubs and bears CSN type coverage isn't as lucrative.
-
I think if the Sox sign one first the Phillies will go insane to sign the second. That NL is a bear.

Sox trade for Yonder Alonso; Alex Call to CLE

What if the tax does what it's supposed to and Dodgers Cubs and Yankees are out of free agent running on Harper and Machado.....who is out there other than Phillies and Sox.......what if at the winter meetings the talk of new CBA scared those that are trending toward those high salaries and has the impact like the hockey CBA to guys like Hossa......hummmmm -
No what I am saying is that if the Sox target and are unable to land either free agent then to me in the free agency world they are becoming very similar to the Bulls in that they can try and be in play but in reality they will not play. They will grab a couple of mid-tier guys maybe a handful in one off-season but not he big boy free agents.

What should the max offer be for...
Harry Chappas replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
You don't front load the contract and then give him the opt out. 45/45/45/45 opt out is dumb if you then go 30/30/30/30/15/15--- he has to opt out with that deal $33M AAV You offer ten year $33 per with four year opt out....at 31 can he beat 7/$198 probably not -
If the White Sox sign him they need to do so soon as they need to understand that the window to compete is now open. This is most likely the point to pushing Boras. If they sign him in January the scope of the off-season will have been different. Keuchel has to be a top target as well as the relievers if Macado or Harper sign. If neither sign push the free agent signings off until next year.....but then the White Sox also become the Bulls in that they don't sign the big money free agents.

I can see the cubs taking a flyer on him as they need a guy until Russell is back and they can cut him if it's not working.

I hope Michael Reinsdorf never has a role with the White Sox.....ever The Forman/Reinsdorf patronage goes beyond loyalty and is now at a level of corrupt Chicago politics loyalty. I really wonder what role Pax has in all of this. -

He is turning into Dick LeBeau. He may go to an HC job and if it doesn't work out he will be hired the next day as a DC. The Bears have invested so much in that defense that it is an ideal gig. As long as they are paying him top $$$ he has to like what they are handing him.
