  1. The MLB parent pedigree is behind adolfo and tatis signings so hopefully they don't screw it up. My guess is Vaughan is there and then it is a no-brainer for them but would love Witt, I think WItt goes 1-1.
  2. Well I am thinking more and more that signing older injury free pitchers is the way to go.
  3. It's a new phenomenon as well. Football off season was meh until free agency and salary cap came into play. MLB used to be awesome.
  4. The issue is this organization has hit on very low volume of developing players and there is no reason to believe they will hit on any more than one or two of the current crop and we were shown that they will not bid properly for free agents so in 5 years we will most likely be where we are now. The ineptness of this front office is shown in this past off-season by over paying for bad free agents and then trading for a $9M contract for a worthless player from a divisional for looking to cut salary. The fact that Jon Jay is making more then Adam Jones ends any debate of the front office having any kind of clue.
  5. I think we are rock bottom but not necessarily looking good going forward.
  6. Until a contract greater than $100M is signed it is not BS. Remember when they were going to get Tanaka or way back when A-Rod. The White Sox will pay over $100M for a free agent if they are getting a good deal on said free agent .
  7. Just like the Sox look like geniuses in the Belle opt out....in hind sight....in real time they let the best hitter in baseball walk away and then let the white flag rise just a few years after having a major hand in cancelling a world series they had a good shot at playing in.
  8. Two top flight players not yet in their prime becoming free agents All of the big boys from day say they are out of the biding The White Sox take this to mean they can low ball both guys and wait them out The White Sox prove yet again they are second rate bunch But hey we have Daniel Palka and Nicky Delmonico
  9. Siliver lining is that both went to the NL and thus the NL is now a bear and the cub road looks tougher then ever. In regard to baseball that is about all I can do is root against he cubs. I kind of backed the White Sox organization in the past but now I really am buying in to the fact that they are just cheap and now they are all about pocketing the revenue generated through the MLB.
  10. should have been southwest side. Sorry I am a Chicago legal voter.
  11. The White Sox are in no position to worry about 3 years down the road and the impact the opt out will have. Hopefully Harper can attract other talent here over this time. In three years if he opts out, they can try and extend him early like the Yankees did with A-Rd or pick up a high draft pick. Harper will be fully engaged to excel over those 3 years as opposed to a mailing it in Manny.
  12. The White Sox are asking Harper to bet on them. Why should he bet on them? Same with Machado. The White Sox are not desirable. There is as likely a chance they average 65 wins over the next five years as there is they average 85. The White Sox needed to realize that they will have to pay for these guys and they don't want to therefore they are not getting them. Adam Jones will be signed soon is my guess.
  13. I'm a late 40's white guy from the southwest suburbs and I voted for Lightfoot. I thought her and Vallas were only two candidates worth a damn.
  14. The Machado thing is irritating not because they didn't want to go to 10/$300. The issue is over paying and helping the Indians for Alonso and bringing in Jay. Neither guy does anything for the future of this franchise. Also if Tatis hits the common fan will now be able to see the epic failure in the White Sox giving the Padres the left side of their infield. If Harper is more than 10/$340 fine let him go...I personally think 10/$350M is my ceiling Losing both is not the worst thing it is the idea that we were told they were in on getting them but then we find out they are only in if they get them on the cheap. We as fans were given the impression that this was what the White Sox were going to do and it is obvious that it is certainly not the case.
  15. I wonder how much of Manny leaving the limelight impacts anything. Let's be honest the White Sox getting Harper puts Machado to the Pads out of the news cycle completely. The east coast/limited interest bias can't get Trout into the mix from LA....you will never hear from Machado again. You put Machado in NY or Philly and there is still front page coverage. Harper going to a big market takes over the baseball news cycle for the next few weeks and is reason to check in on the White Sox. I am also wondering if Machado was balking about playing third here.
  16. What player that has fallen victim to this has left their team and used this as the basis?
  17. The White Sox need to come out and tell their fan base that Bryce Harper is too expensive as if they are in the mix they better sign him or we as fans need to realize that we are irrelevant. In the grand scheme of things if Madrigal and Moncada are the 2B and 3B of the future Harper is the perfect fit in RF, then 1B then DH. Why do I still care.....ugh
  18. That is a no brainer right now if the White Sox were a serious franchise. If they won't pay that then I am finally in the camp that JR likes his one trophy and now the White Sox and Bulls will be irrelevant for years to come. These two guys are the exact pieces a team like them need. The Padres realized this and signed Machado. Yes it could a year or two early but these options are not coming along again in the near future. The White Sox payroll will not get above $125M any time soon. I really cannot comprehend how poorly the JR front offices are run.
  19. Me too in the matter of about 20 seconds I did a whole 180.
  20. Actually starting the season with two negative WAR outfielders is pretty hard to do I would imagine.
  21. I'd go with the Machado offer and guarantee everything plus a little bump 10/$340 and a 5th year opt out. The opt out is good for the Sox to not include it makes no sense.
  22. The thing I always said was that Machado would alleviate the Tatis argument going forward.... Machado going to SD makes it worst Alonso, Jay and the othesr are just the continuing kick in the nuts to the fans Oh and 10/$300M was a fair contract and should have been matched if what they said all off-season of being all in was not bullshit.
  23. Harper is getting a no trade clause or at least a limited one.
  24. The guy has been a troll when he was iwinforRon and a couple of other Ron handles. This board needs a scoreboard for the few folks that really have nothing left in life but to wander around internet message boards they are not even interested in because the world has nothing other than this to offer them
  25. I finally believe what I heard all winter. The White Sox were not serious contenders they were like the person at the auction that is excited until it gets real then they get scared real quick. Hahn believed he could get a bargain and then was clowned when the real team walked in with their money.
