  1. I think the whole process boils down to this......no team has given either player an offer that they feel is fair and the agents are sitting around hoping some GM/owner gets desperate and stupid as spring training draws near. That was kind of what happened last year with Martinez but he ended up with a $110M deal and earned it but history did not dictate he'd put up career highs in WAR and OPS at age 30 but maybe his move to DH was actually good for him.....and hitting behind Betts..... Sadly if this has not ended by now I think it goes until mid-February and somebody cracks and drops a large offer then the Sox will need to decide a course of action.
  2. Andujar is not keeping the Yankees from signing Machado. At this time they have Tulo, DJ and Torres until Didi comes back. It is a nice story to fill air time but makes no sense. The Yanks may sign Machado but getting Kluber and moving Andujar is not going to be the reason why.
  3. JR told Scottie Pippen he was going to regret the contract he was about to sign when he signed it and boy did Scottie ever.....
  4. I have heard Lerner and Middleton more throughout this process than Rizzo and MacPhail or other front office guys from those teams. I was under the assumption that he was lock step with the Hahn and Williams on this the whole way through.
  5. You state the obvious. He was never going to sign with the White Sox for a reasonable contract and we decided to move on instead of being used as a pawn to drive up the price fro the predetermined final suitor. We felt it was best for our fanbase to understand we made every attempt to sign the player but it was just not going to happen. I don't know if that is a better situation or not but if either player lost out because of it I'd be fine.
  6. Agree with that sentiment as well.
  7. Greg, Hawk is the guest speaker at the St Catherine smoker...well it's called sports night now a days....for this year if you are around.
  8. If he gets a contract greater than Stanton's $325M I am fine with the White Sox taking a pass. If either or both sign for under $275M total then the Sox look cheap to me. From $275-$325M I am not certain how I would feel.
  9. That is the only take I can get from leaking this to 4 different reporters after there was little to no activity on this for weeks. Now all of a sudden we get the 4 leaks from the White Sox all stating the same thing, The feeling I am getting is this is the logjam. Not the AAV but the years.
  10. It's not that they are negotiating it's that it appears to now be a way of laying the groundwork for failing to sign Machado because they refuse to go more than 7 years.
  11. So I guess it is safe to assume the White Sox are not going over 7 years.
  12. The Sox aren't denying the amount just the years. So is it safe to assume the contract is 7/$245M
  13. I'm kind of lost as to why everyone feels the need to keep leaking this information.
  14. If you want to look at it that way. I took it as Cody didn't help himself...........and he feels bad that the Hunt situation happened but is not condoning it nor looking to give him a second chance. .
  15. GS should trade Bell to the Bulls for cash considerations and then do the buy out.
  16. Wow maybe they will take Heyward's contract.
  17. Someone explain how the Passan/Gomez/Stadium thing hurts the Sox. If that offer is not on the table and much larger than the Sox actual offer isn't in the Sox favor? If a team beats that offer they will certainly beat a 7/$230 offer.
  18. Here is where both camps seemed to maybe misread something...we shall see... the luxury tax has taken the big guys out (assuming yanks, nats, dodgers, and cubs are in fact out) then there are the rebuilders that aren't looking to take on these guys at this time. Then there is the fact there are two of them available. If one guy is out there then you can bid and drive up price with two not so much. Teams like the Cardinals, Padres, that may have been involved but were not interested at $300M may circle back as could the luxury tax folks if (1) Harper had no deal on the table and (2) Machado's deal was sitting at 7/$210M until it was more recently driven up. The Sox seem to have put something out there on each and teams just are not driving the price up. If the Sox now determine that the process is not working for them and pull out on both, the market tumbles for both and maybe that is where the process could head.
  19. And what if he pitches 30 innings with a 4.50 ERA out of the pen?
  20. The whole take away for me on this whole thing is I think the Sox have a fair offer in table and neither guy likes it and both players are hoping somebody beats it.....nobody is currently but they are holding out hope somebody pops up to do so. The Sox are being used but they also are not dropping the hammer to close the deal. Personally the Macado buddy signings are what irritate me as neither player was needed but there they are.....lock machado up then get both....at this point i personally am of mind to say F Machado.
  21. Imagine LA coming in to play in the snow?
  22. Manny is with his pals for one year that's all. This whole thing is dragging on because the Sox are not forcing the issue hope it works in their favor.
  23. If the YES Network put that out with Manny in a Yankee uniform we would close the thread and burn the place down.
