2017-2018 MLB player movement rumors and reports
QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Feb 2, 2018 -> 01:12 AM) Pegged it at an 85% chance they get Archer too. That's bold to do both

QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Feb 1, 2018 -> 12:44 PM) I'm inclined to agree. RoLo might be good for Cleveland but the Nets pick isn't going to come back for that. RoLo, Pelicans first and some Cavs salary?

2017-2018 MLB player movement rumors and reports
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 1, 2018 -> 09:56 AM) MLB NetworkVerified account @MLBNetwork 13m13 minutes ago Our @Ken_Rosenthal is reporting the #Brewers have had recent contact with the #Rays regarding a possible deal for Chris Archer. #MLBNHotStove cubs have to then certainly sign Darvish or Arrieta or maybe this is ploy to get one of them to sign with the Brewers

QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Feb 1, 2018 -> 10:01 AM) Apparently LeBron would consider Golden State as a landing spot in free agency. Of course he would. But I can't picture a way in which the league and the PA would allow for this to happen, as the deal would be predicated on one party taking a pay cut. That would be awesome.

Sox sign Jeanmar Gomez
QUOTE (joejoedairy @ Feb 1, 2018 -> 08:40 AM) He had 2 saves last year for the Phillies. He'll be 30 this month. Not if he was born 10/2/88 A friend of my from Philly saw him pitch said he was a closer there a few years back.

Keith Law's ESPN Top 100
QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Jan 30, 2018 -> 02:40 PM) What? Soler was on the Royals last season. EDIT: Are you referring to him being traded for Wade Davis? Yes he still had plenty of value as a young oft injured player.

Keith Law's ESPN Top 100
QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Jan 30, 2018 -> 02:12 PM) Honestly, I think the Sox now probably rank 5th in Baseball in future talent. I'd take the Braves, Yankees, Padres and Phillies ahead of the Sox. With the Yankees and Phillies, they have young talent that has already proven itself to have at the very least one good season in the Majors, and I also think the Braves and Padres have a deeper farm system. The Sox prospects, overall, probably have the most high-end potential but it is fairly concentrated. What happens if two of Moncada, Kopech, Jimenez and Robert don't turn out to be the players we thought they'd be? Then what? I think the other teams have a bigger buffer to their players, while the Sox probably have a ceiling of a 78 win team if the "big boys" don't turn into superstars. Everyone points to the Cubs and Astros, but they have had at least 1-2 high profile busts-Appel and Singleton with the Astros, and Soler and Schwarber haven't been the studs that Cub fans thought they'd be. The Sox can't survive that kind of setback. Their potential stars actually have to be stars otherwise they're f***ed. Without Soler they don't make the playoffs last year.

Cumulus Media trying to drop White Sox/Bulls from WLS
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jan 30, 2018 -> 02:27 PM) Just saw this today, take it for whatever it's worth to you: "WGN Radio will sign the team but Ed Farmer cannot be involved with the game broadcast and JR is balking but he also has no place to go. WMVP has no interest at all." It would be supremely ironic if WGN after having and promoting the Cubs all those years now becomes the White Sox station. Wait why can't Ed Farmer be involved?
-
Cumulus Media trying to drop White Sox/Bulls from WLS
WGN probably looking for spring time programming as hockey should be done at regular season's end. Oddly if the White Sox rebuild takes hold and the Hawks slide a bit, it would work out well for WGN.

Larry Nassar sentenced to 40-175 years in prison
If this is as messed up as the last few posts look, shouldn't the whole damn sports program be either cleaned out or shut down?

Brewers Acquire Christian Yelich & sign Lorenzo Cain
Braun at 1B makes a ton of sense as he always seemed to be injured.

Brewers Acquire Christian Yelich & sign Lorenzo Cain
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 26, 2018 -> 12:05 PM) Like I said above, maybe they think Cain is a better investment at $18m/yr than Arrieta or Darvish at $25m/yr over the same amount of time. I agree if either of those two get $25M a year.

SoxFest First Time---What to Expect?
I wandered around and drank beer. Would get autographs from those guys that had little waits. Seminars were cool and the KW Q& A was always gold. Kind of a nice break to winter.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 25, 2018 -> 08:24 AM) I can't wait until the NCAA concludes their investigation and docks Mississippi Valley State's soccer team 5 scholarships as a final punishment. They give MSU gymnastics the death penalty

2017-2018 NHL discussion thread
QUOTE (joejoedairy @ Jan 25, 2018 -> 08:43 AM) Neither Maybe not but as we may see with the cubs, at the prices they are charging fans just are not going to blindly show up. Also hockey seems to change coaches and move players quicker than any other sport.

Hitting on Hansen makes me feel good but Tatis will haunt me until he is out of baseball. Our system would be........well......ugh I know I gotta get over it

2017-2018 NHL discussion thread
The story is he is in rehab with an upper body injury. What got him there is secondary. This is a message board not the AP wire. I'd like for the Blackhawks to say something so message board speculation is not necessary.

2017-2018 MLB player movement rumors and reports
Owners are not obligated to spend anything thus if you are not going to compete why spend it? When you are guaranteed a revenue stream unrelated to winning, you do not care about winning. The Marlins can take their media and revenue sharing and pocket them all because the cubs, red sox and yankees roll in the dough for them.

WSCR should pick up any Bulls game that does not conflict with the cubs. I always thought it was dumb move to go there.

2017-2018 MLB player movement rumors and reports
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 18, 2018 -> 09:59 AM) Buster OlneyVerified account @Buster_ESPN 5h5 hours ago Some experienced agents strongly believe this: slow-moving market is not because of collusion; rather, the issue of tanking--the growing number of teams choosing to not participate in competition for players and wins--was not addressed. $ pocketed by teams, and not spent. Someone somewhere linked a nice Yahoo article about this. 30% of the league is not even trying to win.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 16, 2018 -> 09:58 AM) I would agree, but if you are the Bears, you are going to have to know this channel will be on all the systems. I just wonder if the ridiculous TV contracts may be a thing of the past. The Cubs are hot right now, but who knows in 5 years, and when they were bad before, their ratings weren't much better than the White Sox. At least when they were bad, they could make some money on one or two of the other teams being decent. Winter programming would be a big time bore on that station. For the first year or two if they can show old games and whatnot that would be cool. Do they have these rights? Say for instance the first year in the off-season they show every win from the 1969 season, that'd be cool but what do they do after that? Then how many people what to watch that? That's why the current NBC Sports channel works. You get other sports programming to cover gaps.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 16, 2018 -> 09:38 AM) If I were trying to start a Cubs network, my first goal would be to get as much *exclusive* Bears content as possible. Sign a deal with the Bears that forces CSN/NBCSN to do that embarrassing stuff where they can't show any video of the games, only photos. Don't have Bears staff and representatives come on NBCSN shows. Then you'd have to go to the Cubs channel to get the good Bears content, where they'll have surely poached the best Bears people from Comcast due to the cancellation of some of the Bears programming. I watch the Bears postgame and there are not video highlights now, not sure that the deal is there. It's similar to boxing with BS photos. The thing I keep coming back to is that cubs own 20% of CSN. I think they just want to change the revenue sharing.
