It's all bulls*** and tanking means dick as long as guys want the easy path a title and form the super team. If teams are not giving away high picks then basketball hell will change over time.

2018 MLB Draft
He's a late first round talent. If he puts it out there that he is a hard sign he would easily make it to the second round. I'm sure the White Sox would then sign him for slot money there.

While we were away the Loop went out of business. That was a tad depressing as the Loop was awesome back in the day.

Can Illinois Survive?
I can't figure out education in Illinois. Pensions in and around Chicago are insane. I am not certain about the rest of the state You have administrators sitting at home at 60 bringing in $200K annually. The unions I despise are the white collar/office worker unions. I understand that iron workers/construction etc need unions to survive but I ma not certain why the 65 year old woman sleeping at he DMV needs a union and is guaranteed a pension. I had a relative that worked a bulls*** desk job for the county for 8 years and retired at 65 with 60% of his pension.

Every non-playoff team should have an equal shot at any draft pick in the lottery. Not really complex.

Can Illinois Survive?
The worst of the government bodies is the county. I don't like Rahm but there seems to be a good amount of improvement in Chicago thus I can stomach the taxes. Madigan, Ed Burke and the Dalys are the root of all the issues that there are with Chicago/Cook/Illinois as the machine (unions) run everything.

2018 NFL off-season thread
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 21, 2018 -> 08:34 AM) Normally, I would agree, but they are on coach #3 after Lovie, who got fired after 10-6, and they haven't been over .500 since. And only .500 once. 4 straight seasons of double digit losses. If Trubisky doesn't step up and look like a franchise QB next year, and the Bears go 6-10 or 5-11, or 7-9, or even 8-8, I believe there is going to be a lot of push back. The NFL doesn't usually have 4 or 5 year rebuilds. Too much turnover with age, money and injury. They need to be 8-8 or the organization will have proven again that it is not improving. I believe that the Bears are leaving their GM to have too much responsibility and they are not prepared for this role in the current NFL. The team president should be a football guy not Ted Phillips. Ryan Pace is in charge of every football decision.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 13, 2018 -> 09:14 AM) Yeah our only one that we have to fallback on currently is Sale. Not sure that makes it our "bread and butter" at the moment. Quintana seemed to be developed rather nicely

2018 NFL off-season thread
QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Feb 9, 2018 -> 06:38 AM) The NFL forgets quickly if you have talent. I hate the guy and never want him near the Bears but in a couple years if he's not with the Pats someone will give him a job. I mean even Aaron Kromer has a job after punching a kid and he has way less talent than McDaniels. He'll always have a job but head coach may be tough. Denver and Tennessee were not great and now the colts gig....lot of smoke there

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 8, 2018 -> 10:05 AM) I think you're seriously underestimating McDaniels here. Tribune had a nice story of the Nagy, Pace, Ballard and McDaniels timelines and hiring. Gave praise to Phillips and McCaskey being involved in process wheich led to the quick higher. I know it's hindsigt but it seemed Pace felt McDaniels was not certain of leaving the Patriots.

Cumulus Media trying to drop White Sox/Bulls from WLS
QUOTE (SmashROT @ Feb 7, 2018 -> 06:11 PM) WGN seems like it's made a big push towards sports lately anyways. I'm sure we'll get plenty of Sox talk during non-game hours in the summer. WGN TV is almost 100% news content. They no longer carry the WB programming. I wonder if they are moving toward a more predominant news/sports network.

SuperBowl LII
QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 5, 2018 -> 09:24 AM) JT has a good backlog, which made it seem okay, but the way they cut up those songs was terrible, so much pumped through each song you couldn't make out what the hell was happening. That's what I thought. The people I was with thought it was good but I just assumed I was out of touch. Seemed like the songs were chaotically thrown together. The game was great. Brady Is the GOAT. After Seattle and Atlanta melting away against he Patriots , I liked that the Eagles won. Has there been any explanation as to why Butler was benched?

Should the white sox buy a prospect?
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 2, 2018 -> 11:19 AM) That's kinda where I'm at too. The idea is great in theory, but the Dodgers or Yankees would need to move so much salary to us for it to make sense that they're not going to give up the prospect we want. If the Yankees wanted us to take on all Ellsbury's remaining deal, that is $69 million. He's not a worthless player, but he's basically worthless to us, the only reason we would do that is to get the prospect. If Robert is a $50 million cost, name a player on the Yankees org worth more than that and you get to "guys they won't give up". It might make more sense for the Dodgers, but the Dodgers don't have the right caliber of prospects in their system to pull this off save one or two guys. The question is, does the prospect that's getting moved equate to the tax savings and the FA signing.
