  1. Does Robertson, Kahle, Leury, Lopez get Robles?
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 11:01 AM) White Sox have Nos. 1, 5, 20, 45, 59, 75 & 83 on the BA mid-season top 100 list now. and that doesn't include Hansen who is my favorite guy Fullmer's failures seem irrelevant now
  3. I think I may have to watch the cubs every so often now.....ugh
  4. I posted it yesterday and I still think it would be true Schwarber or Happ, Eloy and Cease will be the cub haul. I think Schwarber is in the deal for no other than reason than to add a name. If he fails in the next year or two years no problem. Theo needs to make a move and they have zero need for Schwarber. Cease and Eloy are the names the Sox need.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 02:51 PM) Or it's going to be awful weather in South Bend and don't want him getting hurt Would the cubs give up he, Schwarber or Happ and Jimenez for Quintana?
  6. So I will delete the Earhart show on my DVR without watching. Anyone see the Jack the Ripper special....I assume it will be bad after reading this thread.
  7. Quintana and the bullpen pieces fit what the Brewers are doing rather nicely. Send them Shields and Swarzek with the Sox eating the remaining salary for Shields as well.
  8. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 02:24 PM) Just finished I think the whole season was very poorly written.
  9. The next three days will be tell tale signs to both cub and Brewers. I hope Billy Beane makes the cubs pay through the nose for Gray. The cubs will probably just take on Verlander's whole deal and give up a nothing prospect along with Avila.
  10. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 3, 2017 -> 02:38 PM) How could you get a 5.5 on a 4 scale? There's usually 6 classes with one being gym. A in 5 AP/Honors and A in Gym = 5x5 + 4x1 = 29/6 = 4.833. One of my best friends had a 4.8 GPA and a 31 ACT and wanted to go to the Air Force or Navy to be a pilot. He didn't get in to either. He settled for U of I where he then settled for booze. Gym ends in year three although religion is not weighted but the AP classes can get 6 points v honors 5.....I think I saw that Chicago needs a voucher system. Marist is safe as is McAuley out south.
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 3, 2017 -> 02:18 PM) If you are like most on here you probably will be appalled and furious that I also went to Rice, since I am a despised person. I can't think of one poster who likes me, though fathom and caulfield seem to tolerate me. Brother Rice ... the only school in the world that would make poor Mt. Greenwood kids take swimming first hour after walking a mile to school on a 10 below zero day and freezing one's butt off. p.s. HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY! Please toast me during your dinners, unless it's a Bud product. I am one of 5 percent of the population allergic to Bud or Bud Light. If I have one I immediately get a headache (google it). I am OK with all Miller products. I like you greg as a matter of fact I think we may have been classmates. The previous poster is correct. A GPA of 3.9 is not what it was years ago. At Marist it is possible with enough AP classes to graduate with a 5.5 out of 4.0 I think at Rice the highest you could get is 4.8 out of 5.0 The southern catholic schools are all about be hit really hard times. Alum are all that are keeping Leo open.
  12. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 30, 2017 -> 09:16 PM) All girls suburban Catholic schools have been hurting and closing, but usually if a boys school is they go co-ed. I havent heard that about Rice. The suburban privates like Benet, fenwick and Loyola are doing well as are the affluent city schools like British, Latin lab. It's the south side schools that are treading water as the neighborhoods are changing drying up. Saw this with Queen of Peace and Mt Assisi. Rice Rita Carmel and Marist are doing fine as they sell sports well but the price just keeps going up at unrealistic rates.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 30, 2017 -> 11:03 AM) Indiana has a voucher system where you can get a voucher to participating privates. That doesn't exist in Illinois. Yes and it is killing the private school option for the middle class especially in the south end of the city.
  14. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 02:08 PM) That's not true. Cook County property taxes are ridiculous and in a shocking turn of events they are on the rise again. Sales tax were at least recently the highest in the country. They might still be. In fact, Cook County lost more residents than any county in the country in 2016. Chicago Tribune listed the number one reason as taxes. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/b...0322-story.html I posted it somewhere in this forum somewhere but I am thinking hard about it and if I did not have an entrenched family I would leave in a heartbeat. Taxes are the lightening rod of a myriad of issues among the city, county and state...one worse than the other.
  15. Pick him up and look to package him at the deadline for a team that needs catching help then that doesn't now. Also have him play all four games against the cubs just for a story-line.
  16. The the Winnebago driving, wine drinking liberal manger is being dragged to the white house for a second visit as champions to appease the owner. Everything went right the last three years for them at an incredible clip. They caught some tremendous breaks in the post season that covered the actuality of the situation and made them appear much better than they actually were this year is kind of what I thought they were last year. A solid 84-90 win team that doesn't have the rotation to win it all.
  17. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 05:09 PM) If we intended to compete, Avi would also likely have been gone. I think it's actually fair to say that most of our most productive players (Kahnle, Swarzak, Leury, Yolmer, etc.) may not be here or have gotten a shot. Nor Davidson as another bat would have been brought in to DH
  18. I hope instead of throwing out the first pitch he catches it.
  19. Wow the Bulls traded butler for three s***ty players and gave up a draft pick.......ok
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 21, 2017 -> 10:24 AM) One thing I wondered... When Jimmy it sitting in his car out in front of Chuck's house, I could have sworn in the background was one of Jesse's houses he lived in. Did anyone else catch that? The scenery certainly looked familiar, I thought the same thing. Love the easter egg of the bell on the counter. Was waiting for Walter to walk in to get his car detailed.
  21. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 20, 2017 -> 12:24 PM) Or eliminating the DH. This all implies going back to the 1950 and 60's prior to division. Have the top X number of teams make the playoffs. What's new is old. They still had AL and NL and only one team made it from each league.
  22. I have lived my entire life in the city of Chicago. I have three kids that go to private schools. I am really thinking hard about moving not only out of Chicago but the state as well. Maybe it is the same elsewhere but the city of Chicago just seems to be crushing its middle class citizens. My wife and I make a nice living but it's just a constant grind that is now really weighing us down. Taxes/fees just kept pounding us and pounding us and we reap zero benefit as the schools and parks by us suck to high heaven. The low property tax used to be something to hang your hat on but those are on the verge of being doubled over just a few year span and my water bill has gone up 500% under this new mayoral regime. Again I have three kids and uprooting them does seem hard but I am pretty certain I could get a decent job just about anywhere.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 15, 2017 -> 02:37 PM) Down to -.3 fWAR. Also no clue why Renteria keeps putting him high up in the order. Just keep him at 7 I still think he should still be in the minors and never called up last year.
  24. Should Holmberg pique my interest as much as he is?
  25. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jun 15, 2017 -> 12:18 AM) Shields has been announced as the starter Sunday. That may have something to do with it. And Rodon has to come up as well
