QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 12:06 PM) Avi always looked the part. Just never had all the other stuff outside of looking the part unfortunately. https://twitter.com/loswhitesox/status/822140741363306496 Looks like he's in the best shape of his career.

QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 09:43 AM) I'm sure you can only watch it if you receive CSN in the White Sox market. Yes I have CSN Chicago, would love to have this to watch in Michigan as we cannot get CSN Chicago when we are there.

Couple of thoughts This is a blow to Cubs owned station if MLB does not green-light streaming for them. Would I be able to watch the Sox anywhere if I have a cable package?

Chicago is odd. Everything north of the Eisenhower expressway is booming while everything south is faltering. It is a tale of two of cities with the middle class only existing because of residency requirements of city workers. Property taxes are not an issue in Chicago although they are tending that way, it is the fees/fines in Chicago and taxes associated with cook county and the state that are troubling. The largest issue with Chicago and then the state are teachers unions and their pensions. The escalator steps in teachers pensions make that model unsustainable which it has been for years. That is where the city and then the state are getting killed. The state is an absolute debacle and that resides solely with Madigan and Culloton who will kick the can down the rode until they are out of office. Madigan has been speaker for over 30 years and Illinois is one of if not the most poorly run states in the union yet there he is front and center. My belief is that pensions and unions are killing this state and city. Waste and bureaucratic BS are killing the county. All three failing are what is driving folks out of the state.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 16, 2017 -> 05:26 PM) I always despised Favre with a passion, but I just love watching Rodgers play despite that ugly, ugly, ugly uniform he wears. I agree with this 100%. I hate him v the Bears but outside of that he is so f***ing good. I wish I could view the cubs like this

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 08:14 AM) I am really surprised that we haven't heard more about Jones being in demand. Bullpens are too fickle. If he is on fire during the season some team in August will give more than today. Same with Robertson.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 08:54 AM) I was wondering the same thing. Just tackle them or do whatever you need to do to prevent anything, allow the defensive penalty, move them to the 1, but time would be at zero so you either go for the win or kick the field goal. If the defenders do that and watson rolls out, chances are he walks into the end zone. In theory that is a good idea but it not what the players are accustomed to doing. That was a risky play call with the time left. -
QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 12:06 PM) Kopech was in A ball last year and has a lot of command refinement. Likely 2017 breakdown with suggested glasnow/keller/newman/4th trade AAA Giolito Glasnow Fullmer Lopez Danish AA Adams Kopech Keller Stevens A Dunning Hansen should be in there with Dunning and possibly at AA. The issue I am seeing with MLB currently is that teams are becoming more reluctant to trade their youth. To think you will move a young pitcher for a young hitter may not work out.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 11:08 AM) Yeah, but I think they are implying he's chicken to go back again. Who knows how he would have done if he stuck around at Miami or if he decided to go now (he might have learned somethings). Either way, just cause he's dominating the college ranks (and making this many championships, regardless of the outcome tonight is dominating, imo) doesn't mean he's chicken if he doesn't try going pro. I think people forget how close it was that Saban ended up as the Bears head coach (IIRC, Angelo was very close to convincing him to come to Chicago). Regarding Chip Kelly, I am curious what he will do. Does he stay in the pro's or does he go back to college? If he goes back, where does he go? Does he go back to Oregon or does he think its a better sign of respect if he heads somewhere else. I'd have to imagine if Notre Dame struggles, they'd throw a lot of money at Chip Kelly (to replace Brian). Some rumors that he's going to Cal. My point on Chip Kelly was more bout he 49ers organization. NFL ownership and college administrators are two different balls of wax. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 08:40 AM) Greatest basketball coach ever never had to leave UCLA. Saban makes everything so easy and he doesn't have to go to NFL to show how great he is. Guy can keep working at his craft to remain the best at what he does (in college). If he wants to go to pro's to try it out, great, but if he doesn't, it doesn't make him a coward. He did go to pros and then went to Alabama. He is in the same boat as Harbaugh. The pro game is predicated on having ownership that knows what they are doing. Sadly there few NFL jobs better than Alabama. Dumb conversation....ask Chip Kelly. -
Ah they old high ceiling terrified of taking a walk hispanic outfielder. Sox have a history of success with that.......

QUOTE (MEANS @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 07:37 AM) Finished the OA last night, was a little disappointed on how it ended. Felt like some things weren't addressed. Overall I'd give it a 6. Agree 100% leaves door open for season 2 but it dragged enough at the end that a nice wrap would have been better. I'd almost rather leave it up to one's interpretation as my wife and I had differing ideas. SSK...just caught up on Designated Survivor. I also like the characters and you were spot on about the shooting at the end (I forgot your spoiler by the time I got to it). There is just some really horrendous writing in there that makes it unwatchable and the 1980's cliffhanger is kind just icing on the cake. The fact that so many folks can get shots at the president rather easily is terrible. I like the premise so and hope it ends after one season. The writing is not good enough to continue past.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 5, 2017 -> 12:44 PM) WTF that's like 10 hours. People confuse me. There's LIFE TO LIVE. Had the the flu, s*** my brains out, slept and watched the series intermittently each over 36 hours. It is 8 episodes totals probably less than 8 in total. One is only a half hour.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 5, 2017 -> 04:46 PM) Saw that, apparently there today. Seems kind beneath him IMO. It always seemed to me that over the last few years that Les was always on the verge of being fired and reminded me a lot of Ron Zook. He seems to have lost his luster. That division in the SEC has cost a few guys jobs though. -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 5, 2017 -> 03:25 PM) Now? Good luck with that. The players really have no leverage so getting pissy with the administration is never going to end well for the players. -
QUOTE (MEANS @ Jan 5, 2017 -> 07:59 AM) I'm a little over half way through "The OA" on Netflix, I think I like it so far but it's hard to say without having finished it yet. My wife and I watched a few episode of "Roadies" over the holidays, eh not that good. OA was pretty good. Watched it in one day. Not as good as Stranger Things.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 5, 2017 -> 07:22 AM) It's not at the Palmer House anymore. It's at the Hilton on Michigan. It's much better than the Palmer House set up. More like the Hyatt. Interesting I was not aware of that...maybe I will look into it. Thanks for the info.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 5, 2017 -> 08:03 AM) I think they are in a similar position as the Sox were with Sale. There is no rush here, they have the hot property(not nearly as valuable as Sale of course), and can slow play it. They may not get a 1st and 4th, but I dont think they are getting only a 2nd back I think the bears second and third this year will get it done. Possibly just the Bears first based on how high it is.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 4, 2017 -> 03:59 PM) To stay at the hotel for the weekend and get passes you are going to be putting out somewhere between $400 and $550 depending on how many people there are in your group. Used to go every Friday, have not gone since they made Friday exclusive to the weekend package holders. It was an awesome event when I would go years ago. Worked downtown it was a hop skip and jump to either venue and a good time. Event took a hit when it moved to Palmer House and now is just an afterthought. The Hyatt, I think it was was really cool. Palmer House seemed crammed in on many floors and the event kind of sucked the last couple of times I went. Seems like an indicative move of the club with the crappy venue for that and the crappy stadium name. Every aspect of the organization seems to be floundering although the new scoreboard was nice.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go

Quintana is exactly what the pirates need. they have shown to be a cute little thing that wins in the crappy national league but is no real threat. they have wasted McCutcheons years and now Cole. -
What's the Funniest/Worst Christmas Gift you've received?
Harry Chappas replied to knightni's topic in SLaM
I have some weird ass relatives and not in the creepy, drunk, fun or quirky kind, I mean straight up weird. When I was 16 living with my parents I got a f***ing kitchen fire extinguisher. Not because they were cheap or trying to prove a point...they were just eraserhead weird. I think we changed our Christmas eve plans after that. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 15, 2016 -> 01:24 PM) Ha, sorry man. Vikings is absolutely worth the watch. Great show, one of my favorites. I saw a few in the first season and then decided I needed to watch from the get go but never have.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 15, 2016 -> 01:08 PM) Anyone still watching Designated Survivor or Vikings? DS I keep trying to get into it, but it seems like every week there is something about it that seems so unrealistic as to make me irked. This week the fact that the FBI agent is wanted by everyone, yet she is able to rip around DC and then crash the inauguration and not get caught until she shoots at the shooter is just ridiculous. I like the plot and most of the characters, but I just can't buy in at the half season mark. This season of Vikings is off to a great start. I loved Rollo trying to get back into the gang and Bjorn trying to drown his ass to get even. I also can't wait to see what Ragnar does now, along with the rest of the crew. Still trying to get to vikings and I watch DS and feel the same although I did not see yesterday, thanks for the spoiler.
