QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 08:32 PM) Weren't the Sox big on Cabrera back in the offseason? yep... He's got great stuff. Too bad he can't get it over the plate.

Javy with a quick 1-2-3 innings with 2 K's.... Chris Who?

QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 07:09 PM) A friend of Hawk Harrelson's plays golf at a course where my dad works and they always talk Sox. He told my dad that Ozzie wants his son, who the Sox just drafted, to be called up already and play SS....seriously. I wouldn't be surprised. hey, maybe that means Ozzie is finally sick of Uribe and he won't be a "Sock" much longer...

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 06:53 PM) Isn't this usually what you say before every Vazquez start? The only thing missing is the phrase, "his start will make people say, Chris who?" I know, but I thought I should change it up a bit......... na! but seriously, who is this Chris guy I keep hearing about? 1. Owens, CF 2. Iguchi, 2B 3. Thome, DH 4. Konerko, 1B 5. Pierzynski, C 6. Dye, RF 7. Mackowiak, LF 8. Fields, 3B 9. Uribe, SS How can we not lose? On a side note, does anyone else feel like punching a kitten in the face?

another good name would be Wily Mo Pena.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 06:17 PM) BTW, here's a sneak preview of the Eggy interview: the suspense is killing me!

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 04:00 PM) Should I be shocked that team Bristol faced yesterday, the Twins rookie affiliate, is 12-1? Or that the White Sox Dominican summer team is 6-20? Or the second DSL team of the White Sox is 8-17? we are so set for the future.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 02:10 AM) Are you for real. 117 pitches in the game, 8 warm up pitches for 8 innings, his pregame long toss session, and his pregame bullpen session. That is a hell of a lot of work on the arm. This is a sub 500 team near the allstar break. Why the hell are people so bent and worried about 1 more batter in this season over the harm it could of done to a pitcher in the long run. He is a 28 year old soon to be FA. Do you really think that he was thinking to himself, one more out and I can defeat the mighty Baltimore Orioles. Or that hey we have a pretty big lead here, the bullpen should be able to get a few outs and lets call it a night. 4 outs, thats what the bullpen needed to get. 4 outs. The he isnt paid to be babied is a dumb comment. Buerhle is a guy who toes the rubber every 5 days and goes deep. He is everything you ask in a pitcher, in fact our starters have busted their asses all season long. Making comments on a guy not going deep enough in the game is a bit myopic. Any pitcher would be pissed as hell if they were taken out at that point. If I am a pitcher, I want to pitch. I don't care if I threw 90 or 900 pitches, this is my ballgame. I am so freaking sick of this pitch count s***. You think someone like Nolan Ryan wanted to be taken out of games when his pitch count was high, even though he had been pitching good all game and got into a little situation late? Hell no, he would pitch. That was Mark Buehrle's game. You don't take the ball out of your pitchers hand when it is his ballgame. Idiotic and stupid. If I was a pitcher, I wouldn't care if the team was 50 games under and had no chance at anything, I would want to pitch. But hey, I'm old fashion. Maybe Buehrle didn't care and was glad to get taken out. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 10:50 PM) Day will be back soon enough. I just threw up a little. Why? Besides from his first two outings, he was pretty damn good. In his first outings, he had just a sweeping slider. But that seemed to be nerves or something, and after that he had a hard sharp slider, to go along with that hard moving fastball. I am excited to see how he will return, cause he has some good potential.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 04:42 PM) Uh, yeah. The Sox were like the 2nd best team in the majors in the 2nd half of that year; Minnesota was the best, and the Sox were bad enough in the first half that 86 wins wasnt doing anything at all, but they were close as hell to winning that division. Considering all they gave up is a LOOGY or setup guy or whatever San Diego is going to use him as who hasn't become a big part of a bullpen until nearly 4 years later, yeah it was worth it. Like I said, I was young and didn't know much about anything

I hate how they juice the ball for the derby though... but then again, I think the ball is juiced for the regular season anyway.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 03:02 PM) Shouldn't've ever come to that. Should've taken Blanton... Well, I was a Ring fan, but I didn't know much about anything back in the day (not like I do now either). It woulda been nice if we got Hamels, who was taken 1 pick before us, but knowing this organization, they would have passed on Hamels anyway.

How far would you take the 'fire sale'?

QUOTE(TheHolyBovine @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 02:54 PM) Tied up in scouting and development, apparently... I like the way you're thinking, although Ellsbury would be an impossible get without trading MB to BOS, and you obviously see him going to Atlanta. Oh, and Geoff Jenkins is terrible. You would be better off bringing Dye back. Me theory is that Buehrle is traded to Boston and Jenks to Atlanta. And Jenkins isn't terrible, he is a very solid player, and will consistently give you an .800+ OPS with a .270+ average. Plus, he can hit 20-30 long ones, and drive in around 80. Plus, he gives you very good D, whether that be in RF or LF. I'd hardly say he sucks. Vs. lefties though, he does suck. -
Royce Ring was dealing in AAA for San Diego this season and got called up a couple weeks ago, and has been very, very good... Was Robby Alomar worth it?
-
we should have a new contest: Who blows it?... basically the same as the pick to click, but where you choose who is the one who is the key factor in the loss.

QUOTE(WCSox @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 02:37 PM) I can't wait until Vazquez walks off the field in late September with a respectable 4.30 or so ERA this year and shuts up a lot of people here. You mean a 3.8 ERA

yeah, it is a home run derby, they should have the best home run hitters in it. I would love to see Dunn in there, and Borchard!

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 01:20 PM) So where is all the rest of the money? Getting saved up for when those young studs are in arbitration and need to be signed. -
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 01:13 PM) Maybe you should look at 10 years of results. Nah. Its what he looks like warming up in the bullpen that counts. Not a lot of pitchers can go 200+ innings a year, K 150, and win at least 10 games. And to be honest, I don't care what he's done in the past. He still have great stuff and I could see him having another 3-5 years as a very good starter (at least .500, ERA around 4, and 150+ K's in 200+ innings).

Oh, I would take it far. Not as far as the Marlins, but pretty far. I dreamt something up like this a couple days ago (I'll work out the trades on another day). CF, Jacoby Ellsbury SS, Yunel Escobar DH, Jim Thome 1B, Paul Konerko RF, Geoff Jenkins C, Jarrod Saltalamacchia 3B, Josh Fields LF, Ryan Sweeney 2B, Danny Richar -
Javy will own tonight... only to leave and have the bullpen give up the lea. I say Aaaaaaaardsma is the one who blows it tonight.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 07:09 AM) If the Sox had someone from the minors making minimum taking his spot in the rotation, what difference would it be having someone making minimum starting and someone making $11.5 million closing or vice versa? Laugh all you want, Dennis Eckersley was a good starter until he became a mediocre one and look what happened to him. Vazquez was considered a good starter, have you seen the scouts' quotes on him? They think he's become mediocre. I think he would be great if he was programmed to go 1 inning. He throws too many types of pitches. Closers don't do that. Plus Vazquez is usually pretty good the first time through the order. I'd hardly call Vazquez a mediocre starter... He does have the best stuff on the staff.
