  1. Glad to see friends and family hiring is still alive and well.
  2. Did someone forget to tell him Tony is gone?
  3. The $2 billion is if you take the thirty year annuity which earns about 5% annually (which no one has picked in years). The cash value is about half, then 34% or so in federal taxes, your state taxes (zero in Texas), and any lotto specific taxes (NY has the highest).
  4. https://www.cnn.com/2022/11/06/sport/boston-bruins-part-ways-mitchell-miller-reaj/index.html Tough situation. The kid screwed his future NHL career as a 14 year old. I use these examples with my students.
  5. I think that's a fair statement. That point was exactly why I was so surprised back then when many people here wanted Hunch or Cora as our manager. Good thing we got rid of Dallas Keuchel or our win would have been tainted.
  6. Like I said the best ones know their audience and can adjust. Just like some college coaches make the pro adjustment and some can't.
  7. The best ones realize what motivates a 17 year old high school kids living with his parents is different than what motivates a 25 year old millionaire with a family to support.
  8. I'd be a hypocrite if I said always and forever. I'm certain many thought that of the Black Sox.
  9. The worst season possible is finally over.
  10. Occam's Razor would conclude it was simply a heart issue and nothing more. But damn that's boring. Most of the intriguing story lines, passed out pre game, needing rehab, losing record are stuff players would know.
  11. Since we only got singles our 1b coach is extra busy. He gets to spend quality time with runners.
  12. Still a point you bring up is why is this not more of a senior level position instead of an intern?
  13. There are both, paid and unpaid. And usually not for college credit but really helps in some fields to get hired after graduation.
  14. Hey nobody is going to buy this book, it's unpublishable! What if I talk s%*# about some of the players? It's got to be someone people know. How about Frank Thomas?! Sign here, you got a book deal.
  15. Makes me think Katz isn't as good as we thought. The Sox passed on him once so far. His career is close to over. If he's still with the team after the next manager is hired he might as well go back to high school.
  16. Which is why Katz will never manage in MLB. The Sox passed on him.
  17. So true. It's clearly a good spot for a manager to be in. I believe your 85% is the current MLB team problems. This probably does little too address the lack of "home grown" drafting and development in our MiLB system. From a franchise perspective that may be half of the problem still remaining.
  18. White Sox hired Tony twice, he must be a great manager for someone. Lol
  19. Not exactly the exciting name that was going to revive my love of the franchise. Another day, another decade. At least this solidifies that MLB playing experience isn't necessary. Katz's path to an eventual managerial position looks better.
  20. He probably doesn't interview well and that's critical to getting any job. The in house pass over doesn't concern me as much. "we need outside blood" is a consistent fan wish especially when teams aren't as successful as fans want them to be. I'm trying to remember the last time fans here pushed for a candidate from within.

    2022 Catch All

Some a-hole stole the wheel well liners from my truck. The front are factory, the rear ones cost me a couple hundred bucks. Pisses me off.
  22. Like I said it's a strong assumption, one I wouldn't disagree with, but I wouldn't label it as fact. The fact is we don't know. Maybe they said "hey here are the two we think are excellent candidates, Tony and Hinch. We can't decide so JR you pick". Maybe they screamed and yelled and threw things at JR. I don't know, I wasn't there. Another possibility is someone in the PR department worked on a mock up of press release weeks before and used an actual candidate's name, not a made up name like would be common. Later they didn't do a good job of proof reading. Perhaps it was wishful thinking by a low level staffer. Perhaps it was Kenny directing it. The fact is we may never know.
  23. Except no one who actually was part of the process has commented publically. It very well may be accurate. But labeling it fact with so much certainly is more than I would do. The only comment was all from JR.
  24. I wish I had that kind of information, something only someone in the meetings would know.
