The Nancy Kerriganization of America
QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 03:00 PM) Sorry, and noted. I am certain your comment is appreciated by many. I know the admins and mods really dislike editing posts. BTW, in another context, that is one damn funny picture.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 02:54 PM) A die hard fan also doesn't wear blinders and pretend everything is alright when its clearly not. That's called a Cub fan

QUOTE(Y2HH @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 01:19 PM) Thank you for that beautiful rendition. It actually took me quite long to read this post, as I sung the words in my mind as I read them... It looks like they are dancing in a broadway review

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 01:43 PM) A die-hard Sox fan doesn't go around jumping on and off at the slightest hint of adversity, in my opinion... But that's my point. Anyone care to guess the ratio of die hard fans to casual fans at the ballpark? We call them bandwagon jumpers, but just as likely they are people who are going to a MLB game and choose between the Cubs and Sox for the experience. They could give a rip about loyalty. That's one reason we get crushed in the attendance battle. It isn't the hard core fans, it's the let's go to a game this year fan who the battle is for. When 33,000 walk through the turnstyle, the same 5,000 hard core fans are there as when the team draws 11,000. The other 28,000 are there for the experience. That's why Dog Days, Elvis Night, Million Mullet March, and Fireworks are so popular. Viva la Bandwagon Jumpers!! Here let me give you a hand getting on. Here's your cap, your foam finger, and don't forget to log on to soxtalk.com Enjoy the ride, leave with your wallet empty.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 01:04 PM) That's because despite being a devout Christian, I hate Christians, and do everything I can to make their lives on Soxtalk miserable. Oh, you are one of those self hating Christians . . .

I'm singing in the rain Just singing in the rain What a glorious feeling I'm happy again I'm laughing at clouds So dark up above The sun's in my heart And I'm ready for love For love Let the stormy clouds chase Everyone from the place Come on with the rain I've a smile on my face I'll walk down the lane With a happy refrain Singing, singing in the rain In the rain.

Those bandwagon jumpers are the exact fans that Brooks and Co. are working so hard to get out to the park and spend some of their entertainment dollars on the Sox. We have the hard core fans, teh difference between the two teams is the "entertainment fans" who decide if they are going to see a movie, go to a Sox game, or visit friends in Alsip.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 12:55 PM) Supporting someone who supports murder ISN'T in support of Christianity. There are no exceptions to "Thou shalt not kill" Well some argue that if 7 of your peers decide you should die, and the government has a method that isn't "cruel and unusual", it's OK.

Superstitious? Dump the Broom Smiley?
QUOTE(Iwritecode @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 11:44 AM) What exactly is a delayed steal anyway? I know I stole home a few times when the catcher would lob the ball back to the pitcher. I'd just walk halfway down the line and if they weren't paying much attention I'd just take off the rest of the way. I got accused of cheating by opposing coaches a couple of times. that's a delayed steal. Watch the catcher, some will make a soft toss to the pitcher, and a lot of times the pitcher will not be paying attention.

Officials Prepared To 'Wait Out' Suspected Robber
hey dickhead, why don't you go in and get him out? If the police can protect the public without the risk of a gun battle inside the house, then I'd wait also.

I think y'all need to reevaluate your personal relationships and understand that the love of a woman, and all she gives you, is far more important than any baseball team or internet site. We should all treasure, love, and honor our significant others.

QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 09:42 AM) Sorry boys.... "Because I want it" is not a good enough reason to spend many thousands of $$'s on a CC membership... Don't even worry about the ID and dues. It's the UPS guy bringing the monthly statement that really does it. Is it an equity club? Then you get the periodic assessment for special projects or repairs. Still I miss the hanging out on the putting green on a Thursday evening with my buddies, making stupid bets, drinking a couple beers.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 09:26 AM) So adding to the list of stupid things I've done, closing my locker at work, and leaving my wallet which had the padlock key in it, in the locker. So the next 20 mins I proceeded to saw off my lock, and then the saw broke. Most frustrating half hour for a long, long time. wait until you discover it isn't your locker

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 09:26 AM) An excellent essay. I found the suggestions about how we will come to lament a "necrotic" suburbia and our decision to go that route to be particularly insightful. I disagree with his assessment of the importance of future energy-to-biomass operations, although they will only be viable in certain locations. Pyrolysis is a more promising production method than the older biogenic means of fermenting 'biogas', and the input issues regarding fertilizers are obviated if we harvest seaweed as the biomas source. Twenty years from now we'll probably have pyrolysis factory ships permanently out in the Sargasso Sea harvesting Sargassum to convert into burnable fuel. Of course none of that can be done on a scale sufficient to replace much of the lost oil production, and it won't solve environmental issues since these fuels will still be combusted in order to release energy. Hopefully somebody also gets serious about looking into the feasibility of OTEC (Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion) in addition to fuel cell and renewable alternative energy sources. But, largely I agree with the essay. Things will be very different for upcoming generations. It's always fun when I have to read a post on a baseball message board with my unabridged dictionary by my side.
