Correct. I should have phrased it as a rule that only pertains in NL stadiums. So 12 games this year. And to be accurate it wasn't implemented until this year.

I didn't catch that about the steal. Interesting take on the situation. Tony hasn't thrown anyone under the bus and is always taking the blame. It's a huge change from what I was expecting (arrogant, never wrong).

Wouldn't it imply the staff knew that the NL rules allowed for pinch running for the pitcher in that situation while allowing the pitcher to stay in the game?

Wouldn't it have been better if someone on the staff said "whose running for Hendriks" Instead of confirming Hendriks was on second?

No. I think it's a long shot but if for some reason he does want out, I'm certain they will manufacture a health reason. Who on the bench would take over?

We're seeing this multiple times, in several situations. Players, coaches, and the manager just don't seem to be communicating. That falls on the manager's shoulders. Normally a manager taking responsibility and not throwing any of his coaches or players under the bus is a good thing. But here we have a manager whose competency is being questioned every day. He's not building any confidence in the fan base.

Not worked up at all. Just responding while videos are getting converted and uploaded. How are you doing?

Having the pitcher anywhere other than the pitcher's mound. Batting, running, all that is a NL thing. Then putting a runner on second to start extra innings is also a fucked up rule in my opinion. I understand you might like that stuff. Free pass? You mean because I'm not all pissed off and complaining? I got better things to do that get all worked up over a situation that may never come up again in White Sox baseball. But feel free to punish him all you want and not give him a free pass.

I just went through with the major changes to the rules of golf. I read them. Passed the USGA test. And you start getting into situations that are more complex than you’ve encountered before and it’s tough to get them right. We see umpires huddling at times trying to figure some variation on rules and how they apply. When you say the league was that the National League, the American League or both? Look at all the variables that happened in this specific situation. It wasn’t basic by any stretch. If people feel compelled to yell about every misstep he makes, go for it. I’m complaining about a few things myself. But I’m just not too upset about him blowing a fucked up National league rule as an American League manager. I’d rather complain that we need to stop playing these games until there is a uniform set of rules in place for all of baseball. I’d rather complain that putting any guy at second is teeballesque bull. Let’s just have each team put out in their best gamers and spin a wheel to see which esports game they play. That will help attract new sponsors and younger fans. Why even play baseball to end a tie?

I didn’t want Tony to manage and now want him even less. But I agree with you. Plus there is no advanced stats to guide the manager. I would be more inclined to criticize him If this was even a rule that was in place when he was managing in the NL. But it’s made up COVID, speed up, attention deficit, finish the game before the 10 o’clock news rule that no one has much experience with.- The TLR Manager Thread
I like the thought but the biggest stumbling block for me is why dump Renteria for a one season stop gap when he only had one season left on his contract? He just came off his only +.500 season.- Albert Pujols

Most contacts are in the team's favor for the beginning, the players favor in the end, and kind of in the middle for a month or two one summer.- The TLR Manager Thread
There were several other great candidates available. There were plenty of people better than Tony not named Hinch. I can't believe you think Tony was the second best candidate for the job. I had him around the 300 best.- The TLR Manager Thread
Of everyone on that list Boylen was the guy I disliked seeing fail the most. He is a great guy and was solid with the Spurs. Also, if everyone on the list Tony started with the lowest approval rating and it may have gone up a tiny bit when a couple players had positive things to say. But now it's rightfully lower than anyone on the list except possibly Ozzie when he basically quit to take the Florida job- The TLR Manager Thread
Plus I didn't look to see who posted. I know you know baseball. I would have gotten the joke if I looked who was posting.- The TLR Manager Thread
I believe (my opinion) Hahn is intelligent enough to know that JR was not going to hire someone coming off a suspension for cheating. This is the same guy that lead the owners in a strike that eliminated his own team from a probable WS. Bochy, Harris, Kelly, Gonzalez, Redmond, Alomar, plus a couple others I can't think of all would have been a better choice than Tony and had at least a snowball's chance of getting the chairman's ok. I believe Hahn is way too savvy to champion someone like Cora or Hinch with so much negative baggage. I also believe he's smart enough to know that Tony wasn't going to bring the same performance that earned him a HoF bust. So he would have found a compromise candidate and pushed them. But until Hahn retires we won't know for certain.- The TLR Manager Thread
Sorry. Some people are more familiar with NFL contracts where they are not guaranteed by default.- The TLR Manager Thread
Baseball contracts are guaranteed. He gets his money. They just didn't want to give him his money and have him take up a roster spot, or he asked for his release because he's got a gig lined up.- The TLR Manager Thread
That's not even close to anything I wrote. You settled on Hinch as Hahn's first choice. I believe there were several candidates that may have been his first choice. You may be correct that Hinch was #1 but it's just speculation and opinion.- The TLR Manager Thread
When did Hahn confirm that? I read the speculation. Hinch didn't even receive an official interview.- The TLR Manager Thread
