The Manager
Steve said Pedro needs a chance. He pointedly did not call him out this week.

From the way back machine - ah the memories
It wasn't that long ago when things looked so bright. From an article on Renteria being fired The White Sox's big offseason moves helped to cement their transition from rebuilder to a contender this year. This past offseason, the club brought in Yasmani Grandal, Dallas Keuchel, Edwin Encarnacion and Gio Gonzalez. Chicago also signed veteran first baseman Jose Abreu -- who had an MVP-worthy 2020 campaign -- to a three-year extension. Their free agent spending spree this offseason was paired nicely with the club's large pool of talented young players, like Tim Anderson, Luis Robert and Eloy Jimenez. We should have started a Hahn appreciation thread.

The Manager
That would be a huge departure from the organization's usual procedures. Ozzie had to quiet quit and Tony had a health issue to be allowed off of this sinking ship. Pedro will, like almost every WS manager before him, will work every day of his contract. In 2026 they will announce he isn't being offered a contract extension and some random former player will take his place.

Now that the science guys chimed in the language guy has a turn. Return to what? Return to the (a) team? Perhaps to start the early stages of rehab. Return to hang up a couple shirts in a AAA locker room? Return to attempting to get outs against MLB hitters? This could be simply a misunderstanding of the language being used.

Liam seems like a guy that fought to not pitch. I'm certain he wanted to hang out, rehab, and not play. I'm certain he kept telling everyone he wasn't ready.

Fire Rick Hahn
True, but most everyone remembers Phil. I think Pedro will have a good season or two.

When is the next .500 season?
My bad. You are correct.

If I'm in Dallas for a Sox game I'll buy a couple beers for the Ranger fans around me. In Houston I have in laws and friends who I have gone with to be the buffer.

The few times I've been in that spot I by drinks for a couple people sitting near me. I also make it a point to applaud good baseball even if it's against us.

In fairness I've seen Sox fans give that same treatment to visiting fans. But I'd be pissed also. You are a brave guy to go in there decked out. I think the Minny rivalry is bigger because we seem more similar to Minny than Cleveland. Plus the football rivalry as well.

Who gets a Look in Aug/Sept
Rush up a few guys, crush their hopes and dreams, and confirm we're at rock bottom. I'd put Grandahl behind the plate every game until he begs to be released. Let the AAA guys actual have some success before tossing them into the deep end on a poorly coached, bottom of the league, team.

Steve, it's even harder to manage a Hahn roster against MLB teams. I really don't see Tony returning to the dugout especially to manage a 90 loss team. Pedro will be here for his contract, pay his dues, and be the Doug Collins of Chicago baseball.

X2 Even better, the icing on the cake would be Boston and New York at seven or eight games over .500 missing the playoffs.

When is the next .500 season?
With as weak as the division is and will likely continue to be, it wouldn't be impossible for most any franchise in this case to get to .500 But looking at our track record I'm thinking 2028. We will be running out a bunch of AAA and AAAA guys for the next couple of years plus a few MLB guys declining right before our eyes.

Here we go again . . .

Grade Rick Hahn's Trade Deadline Performance
If the best offer was the equivalent of the Astros offering Jose back, it's an easy decision. If they were offered Ohtani he's an idiot. So who knows?
-
Grade Rick Hahn's Trade Deadline Performance
Hear is a crazy thought, what is they extend him before the season ends? Have somebody that isn't pitching batting practice every fifth day.
-
Grade Rick Hahn's Trade Deadline Performance
Generally about contracts, not necessarily Grandahl not another player down the road . . . Sometimes you are just extending payments. We can give him x over three or x over four. Same money, longer contract.

Grade Rick Hahn's Trade Deadline Performance
Without knowing what offers came in, I'm thinking it's a B deadline grade. He might have made some offers and was turned down while turning down counter offers. I don't believe we really lost any of the trades made, but down graded a little for trades not made.

Graveman to Astros for C Korey Lee
Soxtalk rule #27.1 If you have a favorite Sox front office person have a thick skin because you are wrong. He sucks.

Guardians at Sox Game 3 Sat 610 pm
Ok. So teams wouldn't be responsible for developing their own players. As a Sox fan I see how that would be a boost. Would you eliminate the draft then?

You want to keep bad teams around as long as possible. As a Sox that makes sense. I want bad teams out sooner so the good teams can start playing each other. The shorter the regular season, the more meaningful each game is. Lose one game out of 162 is much different than losing one game out of three, four or seven. We can call it eliminating them from some of the regular season if you prefer.

It could also increase tanking depending on how the finances are distributed. Not much different than now if TV and other money is equally distributed. Profits could be greater for a second division team with a low payroll. V The AAA to MLB sounded good until I realized a franchise could have two teams in MLB and another franchise none.
