  1. I didn't think he was allowed to leave? He wanted to be sent packing and wasn't. Also, left out is why he wanted to leave. I can think of any number of issues that will change the perception. Physical therapy? Family? Extra day of total rest to recover?
  2. Boomers don't understand today's athletes (we were told). Those old school unwritten rules are outdated. Too bad pitchers don't hit or someone would throw at him. But let's also consider this: A former employee talks s%*# about the company they left. It probably happened at the company you work for. My guess is his statements are somewhere between totally false and totally true. Of course we're going to accept the worst possible look.
  3. Why is it when we talk about folks quietly quitting and just not caring immediately Ozzie's name is mentioned?
  4. Or have him take it slower. No rushing back. Maybe at the All Star break if they are playing half way decent. If not take the whole year.
  5. Probably. Of course relocating is stressful for anyone. He just needs this season to end.
  6. I find it ironic that the worry when Tony was hired was that he would be too old school strict with the players. It would cramp the player's style. What is he going to say about the jewelry, etc? So the players were allowed to create their own culture and look what they created. Now we want a strict manager to lay down some rules for these men to follow. Hey Middleton, if you think being clean shaven makes a difference then grab your razor and be a leader. At least set the example. He wasn't any better than the rest. Now that he's in a playoff chase he'll give a s%*#?! Why not wake the fucking rookie up and tell him you don't sleep in MLB.
  7. Make everyone shave. Let's get back to old school rules.
  8. Like probably everyone here, I long ago stopped idolizing athletes and most famous people. It's kind of a shame that once upon a time that stuff wasn't public, now it's common knowledge. I'm not certain it's for the best. I also believe it's a two way street. If you want to profit off an image, you better walk the talk.
  9. He's pitching because that's what he does. He could have taken a couple years off, collected his money, but that's not what fuels the best athletes. Athletes that love to play want to compete. He didn't get to the point of playing for big bucks by chilling and taking it easy. Good teammates come back. They work hard and get back on the field. Success is a habit. I guess as Sox fans were just use to slackers who are now interested in their social lives than being competitive.
  10. He didn't sign a contract like a guy that needed pampering. He's played the same way his entire career and that's why he earned the big bucks.
  11. Proudest moment in WS baseball. TA getting knocked on his ass or Robin getting his ass whooped by a guy twice his age?
  12. Because the on field umpire didn't claim he pushed the hand of the bag. All NY was allowed to look at was the actual tag. Probably a problem with the very specific rules of what is allowed to be reviewed.
  13. A new owner would look at what the current ownership was able to accomplish with their investment fielding a shitty fourth place team year after year and do the same. Sox fans are so easy to convince it will get better. It never does, but we'll argue forever it will.
  14. True. So is it the loyal fan base or national media attention they have in Chicago that will keep them here?
  15. That's what they said in Brooklyn.
  16. Cub fans are the same folks who sit next to us at Bears, Hawks, and Bulls games. Growing up our youth baseball league always went to a Cub game. I always said the battle is for the casual fan who decides to go to a baseball game or two each year. They will decide based on date, whose going better, dinner options, whatever. Both teams have their hard core fans.
  17. I'll agree that it's stupid to manage this team. It's a career killer. But if you love baseball, being "the guy" is tempting. Do you want to talk about playing or actual play? Do you want to talk about managing or do actually manage? I don't know if it applies to AJ but with so many guys in every sport jumping from the booth it seems like there is a draw.
  18. Owner? No, we want him to sell Front Office? No, we want them fired Manager? No, we want him gone Players? No, most suck with a don't care attitude. Uniforms? I guess so.
  19. Hahn wanted too much so she went to her buddy. Or Hey Ken, you know her better and I think you can get us more. Do you mind taking lead on this? We could play good cop - bad cop on her. So many ways this could have happened.
  20. JR would ? agree with you. He never should have let Tony go the first time. Notice most of these stiffs were out of baseball quickly after leaving the Sox. Another fact to show how shitty this franchise is.
  21. Sandy Alomar has been my hope in the former player turned manager move but AJ seems destined. Or Steve Stone. He's old enough and kisses the chairman's ring.
  22. Would bringing back Tony and Leury be too obvious?
