  1. What, who the hell let you be a mod? Welcome aboard man!
  2. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 19, 2004 -> 02:00 AM) Can you just imagine if Crede had been included into the deal instead of Reed though. We could have signed Corey Koskie instead of Jermaine Dye, and we probably could have gotten a better package for Lee, because we wouldn't necessarily still need a leadoff hitter, if we gave Reed the chance to do that. This isn't a knock against Crede though, I know a lot of people still believe he can produce one day, whether that'll be with us, I just don't think it will. Wouldn't of had to of been Koskie. We could have signed Smiley Randa too, and I would have been perfectly happy with that. Hell, we probably could have traded for him at the deadline, and then just resigned him. That would have left us money to still deal Lee for whatever, and sign Dye to play RF...or we could have not done that, and still come out on top. Regardless, hindsight is 20-20...and that trade helped us a ton. Win-win for both teams. Losing Reed hurts, losing Mo hurts...but that is s*** you have to deal with.
  3. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jan 20, 2005 -> 05:46 PM) You're wasting your time arguing with him. He was the one who said he knew more about sabermetrics than 95% of the other people on this board, and said RJ for Garland would be a good deal for Arizona, and Crede for A-Rod would be a good deal for the Yanks. :headshake :banghead Get it right stupid, it was 98%
  4. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 20, 2005 -> 03:52 PM) That's not why the Bulls lost. The media should have no effect on how the team plays. I couldn't agree more. Players should keep their heads out of newspapers and should focus on the game...period.
  5. QUOTE(farmteam @ Dec 26, 2004 -> 10:43 AM) I don't think this has been posted yet.... For anyone who didn't see, Manny Ramirez is on the cover. Also FWIW, Pujols broke the EA Sports cover guy curse...and Ray Lewis was decent this year too. So don't look for Manny to go sucking this year.
  6. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 20, 2005 -> 01:41 AM) I'm 99% sure that the Sox will be paying 6 mill a season for the next two years in regards to Contreras. Well that doesnt say a whole lot now does it?
  7. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 19, 2005 -> 09:33 PM) No chance in hell. I know there are a lot of Willie bashes but the guy hit .270 and had an OBP of almost .340, which was a LOT better than other players we had last season. If someone's going to replace Willie as the veryday 2B, it'll be Iguchi, Castillo or Durham. And I wouldn't count much into those Dominican Stats either. DBAH0, you're killing me over here. :headshake Willie hit .262 with a .343 OBP...in the neighborhood of .270, but not quite there, and he was above that .340 clip. More importantly(to me atleast), he hit .279 .366 .701 against RHP last year. I'm not sure there is a reason at all he should not start against RHP...save the money we are offering to Iguchi and use it on someone at the deadline.
  8. I know Alvarez used to be in the Pirates system...wasnt he once some type of decent prospect for them too, or am I thinking wrong?
  9. I'm chiming in a little late with this topic...like usual Anyways, all I want to say is that you can almost throw the 'young' argument out the window with Garland. He may only be 25 or 26, whatever he is now...and that is young, I'm not going to deny that. But when someone thinks of a young pitcher struggling, they usually think of the first 400 innings or so for a pitcher...Jon has more then eclipsed that mark. He is not going to get much better then he is right now. That being said, he is a more than capable 4th/5th starter, and should be good for double digit wins this year...probably around 12-14...and Contreras could be in that same win total too. Both ERA's will probably be around the 4.50 mark, give or take a tenth of a point.
  10. Not that this really pertains to the subject(well, it does a little...but it is not like right on topic), I just wanna say how incredible Steve Carlton's '72 season actually was. 27-10 346.3 IP 1.97 ERA, .99 WHIP, K/9 of 8, K/BB of 3.56, though his ERA+ was *only* 182. The real kicker is something everyone is aware of...the Phillies won 59 games that year. He won 45.7% of the Phillies games that year. And MoS...Garland is in my top 5 for sure.
  11. Moss is the best WR in the NFL(when he wants to be ). Even considering how big of an ass he is, I personally doubt he is anywhere but Minnesota next year.
  12. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 05:03 PM) nice of deluca to step out on a limb. :rolly anyhow, i have no gauge on how the sox will finish. i think preseason rankings of the sox are going to be all over the place. when you alter your roster and style of play as dramatically as the sox have, i don't think you can make a really accurate prediction as to how they'll be. That about hits it right on the head too. We have no idea how this team will mesh, we have no idea how good this team will actually be, we have no idea about anything regarding this team. I do like our chances though...I like them a lot. The Twins did not upgrading whatsoever(IIRC, their major moves of the offseason were bringing in like Juan Castro and Mike Redmond, along with Eric Munson, and losing Corey Koskie to Toronto...not much). Basically, I fee like this...the Sox have the best team in the division talent wise up and down the roster, and I think they will win the division...but when I do end up making my predictions, Minnesota will be on top for a good reason. May sound weird...but it is the truth.
  13. QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 09:17 PM) honestly i can't picture him in a sox uni Have you ever seen him? I'm honestly just wondering...because if you haven't seen him, I could see why you would have a hard time picturing him in a Sox uni.
  14. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 08:56 PM) Rich Aurilia had 1 good season. I'll take Iguchi. FWIW, that's one more good season then Iguchi has ever had in the major leagues
  15. Roberto Alomar = Wade Boggs perhaps?
  16. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jan 15, 2005 -> 05:37 PM) There are no more original Cheats™ left . Blame Maggs for this one being taken down God that is great. Too bad Maggs sucks.
  17. QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 05:31 PM) stupid cartoon, just wait till the packers win next year, :fyou Settle down. It is a cartoon. No need to get too PO'ed about it.
  18. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 02:10 PM) Just as AJ told me this past weekend at Soxfest when I asked him about Minnesota, "The White Sox need to worry about the White Sox and let the Twins worry about the Twins. Part of the White Sox problem is that they worry about the Twins, but the Twins don't worry about the White Sox, they just worry about the Twins." I think all of us should adopt this. We need to quit worrying about the Twins and worry about the White Sox. That is just one of the reasons the AJ signing was a great signing. He may have questionable character, but teams have won with those guys before. What AJ does is bring in a different mentality to this clubhouse, similar to the Twins. If he can help establish that attitude throughout, this team will be very dangerous.
  19. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 01:57 PM) Now let's sign Iguchi for that $75 million payroll we were promised. Personally, I'd rather not. Iguchi is going to be a risk, no matter the cost, and to have him start for us would be questionable. I have said all along to just bring in a 2B/SS who hits LHP well to start at 2B against LHP, in place of Willie(who, best case scenario, has fewer then 20 at-bats against LHP this year), and as insurance too. Save that extra $3+ mill on guys at the deadline.
  20. Best wishes go out to the Reinsdorf family. That is probably quite scary. Get well soon CEO!
  21. We dont need more power. We have the kind of park where anybody can hit homers. AJ will probably hit 15-20 homers, Crede will probably hit 25 homers, Dye will probably hit 25-30 homers, Kong will probably hit 40 homers, Uribe 25...we have no need for any power. As of right now, I think the only need on the Sox is a backup 2B/SS guy who can hit LHP well. That's ALL we need.
  22. Rowand has become one of my favorite players. Having him around for a couple more years couldnt hurt
  23. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jan 14, 2005 -> 11:40 AM) Aw jeez, I really should know this. I think the year was 1985, but the name escapes me at this point. Was it someone like Sewell from OU? LOL, that's not bad for not being able to remember it real well. Yes, Steve Sewell, with the 26th overall pick in the draft, out of OU in 1985.
  24. QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Jan 14, 2005 -> 10:47 AM) trading down might be a smart move if nobody is going to take mike williams, i dont think the titans or cowboys or lions will take a receiver so why not Someone would take Williams just for the value. Also, I doubt Denver takes Ronnie Brown in the first round. That just goes completely against their thinking in the draft. Mike Shanahan and the Broncos almost always get a running back in atleast the 2nd round, and sometimes later, because almost all running backs can succeed in that system, so taking one in the first round is a waste. BTW, just a little bit of trivia...anyone know the last time Denver DID take a running back in the first round(without looking it up...cuz I had to )?
