From Colorado, we received Enemencio Pacheco, a solid pitcher with pretty damn good stuff. Finally started to put it together last year. It was a steal, considering Colorado was out of it and all we had to do was give up Sandy Alomar. The next offseason all we went out and did was resign Sandy Alomar.

I'd take Garcia. That would give us 5 solid starters. Meaning that at the deadline, if an ace becomes available, packaging up 2 for an ace could potentially happen. Actually, let me state that first sentence again. I'd take Garcia so long Seattle gets Lee or Konerko at the very best. If they took Lee and we got a solid prospect/reliever out of the mess, I would be happy as hell. NO JOSE VALENTIN

Coors Field That's all I'm going to say.

Frank Thomas was drafted about 6th overall. I think that was the last time we had a real high pick.

Mooch, I feel for you man. Our family lost our 16-year old cat in 1998 to cancer(he was originally diagnosed with breast cancer in early 96 or 97, though I can't remember which. The funniest/cutest thing about the whole thing was was that after his surgery, he had to wear a shirt to keep him from tearing the stitches out, like some cats do, so we put one of my old Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle shirts on him...oh hell did he hate that ). That was about the first time I ever cried, like actually crying from sadness, and that was the first time I'd ever seen my dad cry too. The night we put him down is one of the things I will remember for the rest of my life like it was yesterday. It was late October, and I had just gotten into a "fight" with my best friend, and then I went home. Later that night, I went out to this Halloween thing with another friend, and then I went to his house, borrowed a video game for the Nintendo 64, was playing that, when my dad came into my room and said "Aren't you going to come out?" I asked why and he told me that my cat was going to die. That was pretty much a cold slap in the groin. He was breathing real heavily, and he was either going to pass away in the middle of the night in pain, or we were going to put him down. We chose the latter. I honestly believe that it was destiny. He was all black, and he died the night before Halloween. I just think that God needed a black cat for Halloween, and so he called on my cat to come up. Mooch, my thoughts are with you. Soon enough all these sad thoughts of your cat will fade and the only ones left will be the good ones; the ones that make you happy.

I haven't. I was part of the group that came over when MLB started to go s***ty. The main recruiters for me were (IIRC) cwsox and HSC, but so many people involved got us over here, that I couldn't name all of them. Baggs may have helped get me over too, I'm pretty sure Jas helped...etc. There were quite a few.

I'm maintaining nothing. I love the guy's attitude. He seems like a class act and works his ass off. But last time I checked, a good attitude didn't win a World Series, let alone save a baseball game. A good attitude can do nothing but help, but it will not necessarily get the job done.

So I'm the only one who actually was?

LMAO...sounds good

My favorite stat right there. Take that pythagorean W-L of below .500 and shove it up your arse!

No it's not. Personally, I though Bartolo Colon was our ace last year, and Esteban Loaiza was our #1 pitcher. An ace is a horse - a guy who will give you 230 very good and sometimes overpowering innings. There are an elite few who are 'aces.' And really, these aces are hard to find using stats. You have to really watch the games and figure out who the ace is. Let's break this down just a little, looking at the word 'ace' and it's definition. To me, without looking it up, 'ace' means the best possible, the best you can get, not the best you HAVE. In baseball, the best you can get, or the 'ace', is the best pitchers in the league(RJ, Hudson, Mulder, etc, etc, etc). In cards, the ace is usually the best card you can get. So say you're playing poker and you ahve a pair of queens...are those queens aces? And to answer my own question, no they're not(and while that comparison is a little corny, I think it gets the job done). An ace being your #1 starter is not always true, just like how your best hitter is not always your 3rd hitter. And your #1 starter is not necessarily your ace, just like how your 3rd hitter is not necessarily your best hitter. And you don't necessarily have an ace, just like how you don't necessarily have a very good hitter(though those are much easier to find then aces). That being said...we have NO ace right now. We have 4 solid starters. That's all the more you can say.

Terrence Long and Ramon Hernandez for essentially Mark Kotsay(he may have gotten another player or another minor leaguer, but that was the main deal). Enough said. BTW, I may be wrong here, but Money ball has a chapter or two damn near solely devoted to Chad Bradford, yet I do not believe the name Miguel Olivo is mentioned ONCE. Just curious...am I correct in saying this? Because if so, it is poorly written in some spots. Good writing does NOT twist facts to help the writer's case when facts left out hurt it. Jay Mariotti is a prime example of this.

Koch is no longer the closer...please
witesoxfan replied to Ozzietheairedale's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think he's done enough to be demoted from the closer role, even though he didn't blow a save in the Orioles series. He was one hit away from having a blown save tonight, and one nice play by Uribe from blowing 2 saves -
Probably the guy who wants to give his team a hell of a good shot at winning a World Series

Koch is no longer the closer...please
witesoxfan replied to Ozzietheairedale's topic in Pale Hose Talk
LMAO It's also been proven that Koch giving up runs, be it blowing a save or giving up enough runs to give us a 1-run lead, has been a huge part in us winning these 1-run games. The only time it is good that you are that good in 1-run games is if your closer is doing the exact OPPOSITE of what Koch is doing, meaning he's nailing down 1-run games like it's a piece of cake(ala Gagne). Koch's ass has been bailed out too many times before. -
Koch is no longer the closer...please
witesoxfan replied to Ozzietheairedale's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Billy Koch is no good. Please Oz, no more. I'm begging you. Everytime I see him come in the game, the same thing happens to me ---> a How lucky are we that we won this one too? Man oh man And on another note...11-1 in 1-run games sounds real f***ing good. -
Says who and for what?

Beltran is the next Bonds just like how Josh Harris is the next Donovan McNabb.

This just in! Eddie Guardado cheats!

All I can do is laugh. -
I honestly don't care. I've said these rankings mean jack s*** until June, and I meant it. Winning the close ones is necessary. On a related note, we're 10-1 in 1 run games. I still think we are one ace or one real good LH power hitter away from being one of the best teams in the league. We get both, and I am feeling real f***ing good. Bob, it's ESPN. This is also the network who is employing a so-called "baseball analyst" who says OBP is not important.

Well said. Personally, I'd like to have a 1-headed closer closing for us(say Ugueth Urbina), but Politte-Marte works well for me. I'm fine with a pen of Cotts, Wunsch, Shingo, Jackson, Marte, Politte, and Koch. Having 3 lefties looks like it could reap benefits, especially if we need to get to the pen early and a team has some good lefties in it(for instance, the Yankees, or even the A's with Chavez, Durazo, Hatteberg...hell, it would even by nice for the Twins with Koskie, Jones, and Mientkiewicz). And if necessary, adjustments can be made. Personally, I say Gload is as close to being a necessity on the bench as anyone. We NEED a solid lefty bat off the bench, even if Gload is not the best LH power hitter off the bench in the AL Central. I'd really like to get a good LH hitter via trade, but that can wait for now, I suppose.

What happened to my post from last night?
witesoxfan replied to AngelasDaddy0427's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Due to that poor excuse, you will have 10,000 posts taken away. And most likely, it will only take you a month to get them all back. -
Why isn't Ozzie giving Adkins anymore Work?
witesoxfan replied to Butter Parque's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The only time Adkins could have been used since the D-H against Toronto was last night. I didn't follow the game last night, so I can't comment on why he was not used. -
I'm heading out. ChiSoxFan, keep it coming. And for God's sakes, Seattle, win this f***ing game.
