  1. Choosing between Lee and Konerko is somewhat difficult, atleast to me anyways. You will almost always get .280 25 100 .850 out of Konerko, and with Lee you can get .300 30 100 .830 with 20 steals, or you can get .260 25 80 .850 with 5 steals. It's a hard choice, to me atleast. Not a big fan of station-to-station baserunning(which is exactly what Konerko brings to the table), but I'm not a big fan of bad plate discipline either, which is where this gets even harder. Konerko walks about 50 times a year, and usually has an OBP of around .350-.360. Lee, on the other hand, walks either 37 times a year, or he walks 75 times...in '00, '01, and '03, he walked 38, 38, and 37 times respectively, but in '02, he walked 75 times. All I can do is go . Your guess is as good as mine. Lee could easily be one of the better yound hitters in the league very soon...Manny Ramirez-like...if only he could draw a walk and had good plate discipline. Because of that lack of discipline, he may only become a Dmitri Young-type player at his very best, and while Young is a solid ballplayer, he is not one of the best hitters in the league. Meanwhile, Konerko seems like he could be a player that, if he ever puts two good halfs together, could hit 30-35 homers, hit .310, and drive in 110-120 while having a .950 OPS. Real hard to judge at this point, IMO. I think the Sox would have to be looking at moving Lee with Reed coming up like he has. I haven't seen Reed play, so I don't know what kind of range or arm he has, but I assume putting him in LF initially would not hurt him. However, I do not believe he can play 1B, which would be a reason we keep Konerko. Anyways, I have no doubt that if needed, KW will get what is necessary. He seems to always be a player at the break, be it buying or selling. We'll see moves, and I can guarantee that.
  2. Pretty sure just Saturday and Sunday.
  3. I'm not really concerned about him heating up...we all know that will happen. I'm more concerned about .300 30 110 with very little plate discipline for $6 mill, let alone the $9 mill he'll make next year. That and the fact that a spot almost has to be cleared for Jeremy Reed when he is ready. If come June the M's are out of it, I would personally look to trade Lee to Seattle for Garcia/Piniero. Garcia seems to be pitching real damn well this year(though he is 0-1 this year, his ERA is 2.27 and his WHIP is 1.15, BAA is .234, K/9 is around 6.3 and K/BB is around 3 in 35.6 innings) But enough of that...get Jose, Willie, and Juan in there consistently. Call it Oz's first challenge.
  4. I'll spare the trade Lee banter(though that is probably the best way to handle it IMO). Willie can play CF, Uribe and Jose can play 3B, Rowand can play LF...there is no doubt in my mind consistent playing time can be had for these players.
  5. The only thing in this world that makes me happy is this smiley ----> Oh yeah, and this one ---> :fthecubs And this one ---> :dips*** And ---> And ---> OK, not really. But I get to see the Sox in Minny in 3 weeks
  6. That's the thing...THEY ARE. His homers alone do it for him. And Jose is not a .230 hitter. .240-.250 usually, and if he adjusts well to lefties, potentially a .260-.270 hitter, maybe even higher. The only things Willie has on Jose is money(Harris making very close to the league minimum while Jose makes $5 mill), speed(duh), and RIGHT NOW, average. I do not think it would be unrealistic for Jose to hit better then Harris, whether that means Harris drops down, Jose goes up, or a little of both. I'll just say right now that if Jose Valentin is traded, the White Sox are making a HUGE mistake.
  7. You've been here since April 1st, and have 165 posts here. That is so NOT the first time you've seen green on here. And who gives a s*** what the media thinks? When the media actually does care, they rip us to shreds for no reason(Mariotti?????? Thank you very much). I hate to beat a dead horse and sound goofy, but what did media attention get us in 01? 02? 03? What did a lack of media attention get us in 2000? I rest my case.
  8. And everyone thought Spud Webb was the shortest man ever who could still dunk. Willie Harris - 5' 4-1/2'' and he can still get 10 feet in the air. EDIT:And obviously, he's taller then 5' 4-1/2''
  9. Uh, Carlos Lee anyone? Making $6 mill this year, $9 mill next year, and he's still very expendable and very tradeable. Trade him, move Rowand to LF, Harris to CF, Uribe to 2B, Valentin to SS...if needed, we have room for Reed(Rowand/Harris/Uribe struggle terribly, call Reed up and put him in the lineup). I bet Lee is the one who is shopped...or atleast he should be the one shopped. I don't care if he's only 28 or so...he's the most expendable player the Sox have.
  10. Great minds think alike Though, Harris should continue to get playing time. Play him in CF a little more, and put Uribe(and Valentin as well) at 3B a little too. We need Valentin's LH power in the lineup...period.
  11. I'm not talking now...I'm talking midseason. I think that's what the creator of the thread was intending. It's just a little early to be discussing mid-season deals, considering we have single digit losses still, but it's fun nonetheless. Roberts would have been nice, but Harris is hitting .280 or so, and we all know about Baby-Berroa. Can't argue with that.
  12. One of the only reasons I can think of is that he does not last long. He was in something like 60-65 games last year and it seems to be that he pitched in 45-50 innings or so. Averaging less then an inning per is not efficient. I like Kelly a hell of a lot, and I would like to keep him and use him out of the pen(hell, I'd rather have him closing then Koch), but if we can get a solid player for him, I suppose Kenny can make a move. I don't see why, but then again, with Cotts's success as a reliever, I don't see why not. Atleast it's one of those good problems to have. Not having a consistent closer, well, that's NOT a good problem to have.
  13. Harris is proving to be a solid major league hitter thus far. I still say we trade Lee for a starter, put Jose back at SS, Uribe to 2B, and Harris to CF with Rowand shifting over to LF which can potentially open up a spot for Jeremy Reed is needed...but maybe that's just me.
  14. That thing is inaccurate. If someone swung at a pitch in their eyes, that thing would say it is in the strike zone.
  15. Is Tafoya hot? The name sounds familiar, but the face isn't coming to mind
  16. You mean (meaning NO Harris) I want Valentin in the lineup over Harris any day of the week under any conditions. Valentin does not bring what Harris brings, but does bring much more. As of right now, there is no lefty power in the lineup...that changes when Jose is suited up. We NEED a LH power hitter in the lineup.
  17. From FA? Can't name one off the top of my head. Through the draft - as SS2k said, Crede...I am almost positive he is a Boras client. We traded for Charles Johnson, and I am once again almost positive he is a Boras client. The Sox drafted Jeff Weaver. That son of a b**** never signed with the Sox, and is now sucking ass in LA. And that familiar name...Joe Crede
  18. When the Cubs play the Sox, someone throw a piss cup at him. Or throw some toilet paper at him. Or better yet, throw a f***ing toilet at his ass and ask him if he's ever used one.
  19. The only need Beltran would fill would be a LH bat in the middle of the lineup. If we are going to get a LH bat, why not get a huge LH bat and go out and get Delgado or someone to that extent? And if I had the choice between spending $15 mill on Beltran or Maggs, I say get the hell out of here, both of you, I want to spend my money on a surplus talent, not on 1 guy. If it's $12 mill or less, we can negotiate
  20. I don't think Jerry doesn't give money and big contracts to pitchers because he knows something; if that was the case, why did he not resign David Wells?(I know KW was a part of letting him go, but you get the picture) I think it's less that he knows something and more that he doesn't want to get bit in the ass again Jamie Navarro-style.
