QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Nov 6, 2008 -> 10:19 AM) Would the Mets sign Sabathia and try and move Johan and if so would Dye, Swisher and Vazquez fit their needs? no
-
I am in full agreement with John Danks.

He did talk about his shoulder in the party video. It would make sense, and I bet he is still hurt as caffey said.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 05:41 PM) Here are Swisher's numbers though four years in the minors G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS SB CS SB% SH SF IBB HBP GDP 4 Seasons 320 1169 219 305 85 8 50 214 222 300 .261 .379 .476 .855 9 8 53% 0 0 0 1 0 The biggest power year he had was 29 hrs (after which he was called up ), prior to that he had a 6 and a 15 homer year which in the majors projects out to be about 15 and 25 respectively. IF anything his peak year in the majors, was simply a peak year. Every other year has seen him reverting to a certain norm that being, about 20 to 25 homeruns in about 560 at bats. There's nonthing shocking about his stats that can't be labeled as simple year-to-year improvement He had 29 homers in 546 PAs; if that's averaged out to 675 PAs, it's roughly 36 homers, which is strikingly similar to his 2006 season. I also don't think anyone's labeling anyone, but it's a shadow that still looms over baseball and it's sad, and it's entirely possible that Swisher is apart of that shadow. However, the entire situation is a witch hunt and I really don't want to think about it until I would actually have to.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 09:22 AM) Why would Dye be the one? A quiet leader who hits 35-45 homers and drives in 100 plus runs and hits close to or over .300 and is consistent over "Captain Morgan"? I just don't see the logic. Plus his best posiiton is 1B. We have him basically playing out of position, but once agin the clutch performer is PK at 1B in my opinion. KW might be saying think about where someone is playing, but it's November not March or April. Because Dye has a lot of value, he's getting older, the Sox have a replacement waiting for him in Quentin, and they have quite a few needs they need to fill. I also think Swisher is a more than adequate LF...he provides enough range to be good and his arm isn't strong enough to be in RF. I'd be more than happy with him in LF on opening day. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 09:24 AM) I agree. Why would we trade for someone elses "disappointing" players? These writers have too much time on their hands at this time of the year. Swisher might be the one on the block for sure though. Carlos Quentin and Gavin Floyd were disappointing players. Their value is low and the potential is high. If they don't work out, you cut your losses. That's why you trade for disappointing players. You also don't trade players whose values are at the lowest they've ever been. That's why the Sox probably won't trade Swisher, barring some unforeseen deal.

QUOTE (Yoda @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 10:20 AM) Say what you want about Dye, he'll be playing RF for the White Sox in '09. If he's on the White Sox, almost certainly, yes he will be in RF. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 11:59 AM) Do you really like Q better defensively that JD? I think Q misjudges ball trajectory much more frequently. Yeah, it's a slow day. Prior to this season, Quentin had rarely played LF in his entire career, and playing LF is an entirely different beast than playing RF. I think Quentin would be just fine in RF. Hell, from what I saw of Quentin in LF, he looked like he had pretty good range in LF and just missed a few balls.

Jeter worst defensive IF in baseball
witesoxfan replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 01:47 PM) No doubt that Jeter is vastly overrated defensively, but I just can't accept that the he's the worst there is. Did D'Angelo Jimenez and Jose Valentin both retire? I'm sure this was done last year. Beyond that, Jose Valentin was a far superior defensive SS to Jeter and most SS's in general. He made errors in the field but he covered ground at SS as well as anyone. -
I'm in full agreement with the thought that Dye is the most likely to be traded - not because any of us want him gone, because he's a huge fan favorite and one of my favorite to ever wear a White Sox uniform and he's also still productive as hell. I think it has more to do with the fact that the Sox think they can get a good year out of Konerko next year, Thome will be good again, Quentin will be good, and so on and so forth. I also don't understand why Swisher would move to RF with his arm. I see Quentin in RF and Swisher in LF if Dye is indeed traded.

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Nov 3, 2008 -> 04:11 PM) "Good-Bye Lenin!" And just about any movie that's on a plane for some reason. What is it with movies in planes making me want to cry? I mean, come on, "No Reservations?" What is wrong with me? Snakes on a Plane? I mean, I could understand.

QUOTE (BurlyMan56 @ Nov 3, 2008 -> 10:31 PM) Is this guy a Matt Thornton type? Good live fastball with average to below secondary stuff? I think Thornton was a starter with the Mariners before the bullpen did him good. Hope the same isn't for big Aaron. I'd like to see him starting. Same body too, in terms of heigh 6'6 and weight 220-240. I don't think we would want two similar pitchers in the bullpen especially if neither is the closer Thornton had no control of his stuff as a starter, and he only has really two respectable pitches. He's worked out magnificently as a reliever, and these scenarios aren't really that similar at this point in time. Thornton was a bust of a prospect who was out of options, while Poreda was drafted less than 2 years ago.

QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Nov 3, 2008 -> 11:44 PM) I don't know why everyone is talking about the Sox signing Furcal. Four words: Boras is his agent. End of story. Adam Katz and Paul Kinzer are his agents. Scott Boras has nothing to do with Furcal.
-
Atkins should not be considered. He's mediocre defensively and his OPS on the road in his career is .752, and he was not really that good last year anyways (to go along with a road OPS of something along the lines of .660 or something).
-
QUOTE (striker62704 @ Nov 3, 2008 -> 01:18 PM) How about Vazquez for Atkins and Taveras, then we sign Lowe 3/36. Taveraz bats 9th and plays CF. We could flip Atkins or trade fields. Also, this would not work. Vazquez has a no trade clause to all 9 teams in the West, and Atkins is brutal defensively. The Sox pitching staff is good in part because the infield defense is good.
-
Vazquez is not the Sox only chip to trade. If he was traded, they have several other pieces they can deal to bring in another solid starter, along with incentive laden contracts to guys like Garcia or Colon.

QUOTE (joeynach @ Nov 2, 2008 -> 03:43 PM) About as much as Konerkos degenerative hip which is such a huge concern that it has never limited him at all
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 2, 2008 -> 07:02 AM) If you remember, that deal was for Taveras, Buchholz and Hirsch... and then KW asked for Pence too as I recall.
-
QUOTE (joeynach @ Nov 2, 2008 -> 02:42 PM) Garcia has had surgery and been out of baseball and has had a considerable loss in velocity and effectiveness. Ur asking me to compare apples to oranges. The point was someone said if KW can trade Vazquez to fill other holes and replace his mediocre #s with someone more affordable (and less frustrating) then he would probably do it. Well all Im saying is Garland might be that replacement. so the knot in Garland's shoulder brings you absolutely no fear at all?

QUOTE (shipps @ Oct 28, 2008 -> 08:18 AM) You really cant overdose on Lunesta.Once you get a certain amount in your system your body just stops absorbing the rest. And out of all the sleeping pills Lunesta is one of the least powerful, if you took ten Ambien on the other hand you might run down I55 naked and not remember a thing the next morning. That sounds like me, but instead of ten Ambien it was twenty beers.

QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 1, 2008 -> 03:50 AM) http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1947751 Do they want to give up decent prospects, plus pay $13 mil for a one year loaner? Considering how good Beltre could be for the Sox with the possibility of him becoming a type A free agent, yeah I'd say they'd do it. You aren't going to give up Poreda to get him, so really I'd have very little problem with it.
-
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Oct 31, 2008 -> 08:55 PM) Cubs declined the option on Blanco today. Supposedly they want to bring him back for about a million a year, but he seemingly would be a solid fit on the SouthSide. Give him 2 years, $2 mill a year yesterday

QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 1, 2008 -> 03:09 AM) http://blog.seattlepi.nwsource.com/basebal...ives/148634.asp So what does Scott Boras have to do with the White Sox trading for Adrian Beltre?

QUOTE (logic101 @ Oct 31, 2008 -> 09:23 PM) "Burroughs, 26, a child therapist..." How'd you like this guy giving therapy to your kid? a tattoo on the shoulder is invisible to the naked eye in a public situation such as this. I'd be perfectly fine with it.

QUOTE (Shadows @ Oct 31, 2008 -> 10:01 PM) man, I wish that it wasn't "wrong" to cuss because it really is the greatest way to emphasize things well just because you are the world biggest fracking Dolphins fan doesn't mean you have to point out the obvious

QUOTE (beck72 @ Oct 31, 2008 -> 07:36 PM) I didn't mean to say that Wise was the answer for backup OFer. Yet Owens, IMO, does even less than Wise. I don't know how injured Owens was last year. Yet his 2007 wasn't stellar. Yeah, I'd disagree completely with that. Wise is an OK 4th OFer, but the only thing he has on Owens is power. Owens is pretty much better in all regards, and I feel like I'm hurting my own reputation by saying that (even though I was completely against anything Wise in the postseason and previous).
