Meidroth confident on that flip lol.

Abreu looks really good but never fit the 2027-2030 Sox timeline...

Maybe tampering down expectations a bit would be wise...it was never going to be a straight line process with him anyway. At some point things will just click.

So much for swing decisions that inning.

They're not going to cut a $5/6 million hitter this early when it's such a long season.

None of them matter unless he's at least a 650-675 ops hitter at least...really needs to be over 700 to not be a replacement player.

Because he's the closest to Pedroia and Youkilis. Kristian Campbell is too athletically gifted to easily identify with...

Just watch and judge for yourself. He will take a lot of walks and has very solid plate discipline compared to the swinging and failing parade of stiffs.

Sounds like the start of Six Million Dollar Man..."we can rebuild Steve Austin, we have the technology, better stronger faster..."

Sox "way behind everyone else" Lance Lynn
He's almost more defending the Dodgers (and Padres) for spending "too much" or trying too hard to win...a lot like what Bryce Harper said recently, especially as it pertains to LAD.

Except a lot of those pitching rookies (or with less than two years of service time overall) in the bullpen are late 20s or early 30s guys. Most are unlikely to be on the next playoff team. In fact, Meidroth or Baldwin might be the only current Sox position players on the 2027 roster. Odds are at least 50/50 that they don't make it. And we will be fortunate to have 2/3 pitchers from 13 total spots last. I will go with Shane Smith as the one keeper.

"It seems like there are some teams willing to do almost anything and some teams that don’t want to do (as much),” Cease said. “I don’t know all the financials, which teams are run well and which ones aren’t. “But for me, personally, I have nothing against teams that go all-in all the time. I don’t think there is any negative to that. At least other teams keep their star players." Dylan...a Boras client, being about as nice as he possibly can be in this situation. The truth is not hard to discover.

Fiery column...
Hahn not being able to hire Hinch before 2021 was essentially the neutering of his power...and has more or less directly led to the 2023-24-25 seasons, along with the dumping of fan favorite Burger instead of Anderson.

Look at how many games Baldwin has played in AAA compared to Colas Fletcher DeLoach and Canario...

Pretty amazing that a player can make that kind of an impact on a new manager from a totally different organization in just 2-3 weeks being around each other...well, and spring training also. Hard not to cheer for guys like him and Shane Smith that were counted out or undervalued or taken for granted by previous organizations. (Greg Jones...we hardly knew ye.) At least the airlines will make a lot of money off the Charlotte Shuttle this year.

He'll have the same caveat that Hahn had. JR didn't provide enough money to spend in free agency to "finish the job." Injuries/bad luck/but sound processes. Surprised we haven't recently heard the phrase "unprecedented financial flexibility/extended championship window" to describe the upcoming 2027-2030 reign of White Sox dominance...

Not to mention they couldn't be any more different in backgrounds...former player route/connections hire versus starting in a big league front office and rising up from ground zero beginning at age 22. The Montreal and then Marlins minor league systems in the 80s and 90s...through the 2003 World Series victory over the Yankees culmination, were the envy of everyone in the industry. It wasn't until Tigers Red Sox Phillies years that he was connected with profligate spending...as he wouldn't have had to take those jobs on shoestring budgets, quite clearly.

Getz hired by Royals after 2014, leads them to World Series title in his rookie season in the front office "After retiring as a player early last season, Getz took the summer off to consider his career options and decided to stay in baseball. He had a discussion with Royals general manager Dayton Moore and assistant general manager J.J. Picollo, and was offered a job in player personnel and development. "They offered me a position that was ideal and would expose me to the other side of the game, in all areas," Getz said. "As I'm making the transition from playing, I couldn't think of a better place to go, considering my prior relationships and the baseball minds I'm going to be around, and also because of the character of them. I just felt [Kansas City] was a great place to go." "He'll get a chance to do a lot of things," Picollo said. "He's a good baseball guy, so I'm glad we got him." mlb.com

Dombrowski got his start as an administrative assistant in the Chicago White Sox front office in 1978 (age 22). He was their farm director in 1980 (24) and the assistant GM from 1982 (26) to 1986 (30). He moved to the Expos as farm director in 1987 (31),

Yes...CLE announcers very pointedly said "that's an error you just can't afford to make in that situation." Officially, it wasn't one.

When you make mental errors that are not officially assessed by the score keeper as official errors...giving up outs and allowing extrallowing on throws, eliminating double play possibilities, it's not tracked statistically but it helps to harm the confidence of the pitching staff. We saw this the last two years and are witnessing the same yet again. https://archive.fieldingbible.com/TeamDefensiveRunsSaved Already back down to 21st in DRS and falling by the day.

All the questions with Meidroth at SS relate to his range, overall athletic ability/dynamism/quick twitch-iness and arm. We will see soon enough if he can handle it at the major league level or not. He can obviously make the routine plays, but his arm is much closer to 45-50 than it is to 60+. For sure, he's probably better than Sosa or Baldwin at SS, but the next issue is who's going to play 2B if he's at SS....whoever it is, they need to play together practically everyday to build up their chemistry/rapport. Then you've got Vargas, Baldwin and soon Rojas needing at-bats on the infield. - Chase Meidroth getting promoted
